LIVE GAME Round 17 vs. Roosters

Live Game Discussion
From the first set it was clear the tigers were not up to it physically. I basically wonder if they were a bit scared or intimidated. It's a weird look for a professional team.

Api was very sloppy with his passing, not a good game from him, he must be given a break somewhere. I reckon the first 15 off because I'd love to see him playing fresh at the end of the 1st half.

Across the board we were poor, and I wonder if it's unfair to be critical of individual performances given how dominant roosters were, but then you look at S Fainu and he still manages to play with intensity and effort, even after multiple hospital passes.

Roosters were all over our very limited attacking movements. They got to the spots before our players even did. And then in attack they went straight to our weaknesses and tore them apart. Manu was unstoppable. It was brutal out coaching by Robinson. Roosters absolutely knew what we were doing before we were even doing it.

It was hard to see how we intended to attack them, even given a glut of opportunity. The play of 1, 6, 7, 9 was perhaps as bad as I've ever seen. I think you must look at it and say it's not acceptable.
Its unfair to judge us harshly against an illegal international team. And when I say illegal. Salary Cap stipends.

do you think Klemmer is worth $800k..because I don’t see many people complaining about that ..
If that is what he's being paid 😱, no I don't think he is worth anywhere near that.
I reckon $350,000 would be max. amount for him.
But he's another desperation purchase of a now bygone past which certainly won't happen again while Richo is part of our team.

Benji stated the metres made per set was double for the Roosters in the first half and that was the catalyst for the result.
All I know is I’ve now watched the game twice and our middle forwards including Sam Fainu who played on an edge as well as Aidan Sezar and at times Lachie Galvin all hit hard defensively and did not take a backward step.
The majority of the defensive issues except when we had one or two players in the sin bin were all out wide where the Roosters exploited us regularly .
Naden justifiably got hooked for poor arm grabbing defence, our wingers tried to tackle with force but come up with too many poor defensive reads and Doueihi also had plenty of bad defensive reads that he needs to fix and fix fast.
There was no defensive cohesion whatsoever between our centres and wingers.

It’s to be expected when we have zero experience & combinations all round + play players who haven’t played much NRL over the last 12mths.

We have changed this season our backrow, centers, halves and wingers more than any club has in the last 3 seasons at least.

Naden isn’t NRL quality & nor are most of our backs. The sooner he is gone the better we will be.

Was that when Api passes to Steffano close to the line?
Yep. It also shows that the 2 that made the tackle, Smith and Radley, both have their foot on the line. All the outside defenders are about half a foot offside having left a fraction of a second early. Would look the same for every teams goal line defence ours included.

Api not even charged = tackle was fine and sin bin shouldn’t have been warranted

AD - fine for his tackle. Don’t think it was a sin bin especially when you look at other tackles in the game (at least 3 others like it from the roosters).

Bateman was also fined for his one

Normally comment straight after a game but felt a bit down so I thought leave it till today
Today's good news Api no charge and Bateman and Douehi fines only
Yesterday was a total mismatch ! The Roosters team look on paper like an origin team
I'm always amazed how they do it ? Full of stars and yet when any superstars come on the market they are the most likely to secure yet one more star .
Anyway our generally undersized team with not very tall wingers was never going to match it .
Surprised Benji didn't have some tactic to at least try to nullify Dom Young and Daniel Tupou
After one or two good games Stephano reverted back to a half hearted effort with minimal meters .Api was pushed to the limit trying to cover everything
When we got close to their line on quite a few occasions whatever playbook we had seemed to go out the window !
Klemmer seems a bit ordinary as was Matamua .Douehi seemed our most likely to make a line break and Galvin and Sezer found it tough going .
Back to 17th and the goal now is to climb a couple of places off it by years end
Good luck with that .The loyal WT supporters deserve something

Unfortunately the first try was from AD being beaten on the outside and ‘may’ have turned and caught, but it was a ‘may’, but he still finds reason to abuse his winger for coming in 🤦‍♂️, next try the winger stays out and the centre scores.
AD may want to set standards for the young guys, but he has to achieve that level first. Very disappointing display from AD with his attitude to others.

It was men against boys yesterday…literally.

We were giving away size, strength in too many positions. Won’t be like that in a couple of years.

What about Klemmer ?

He was. I was watching live. Deathriding players is not my forte
What was it about his game that was "very impressive" to you?
We only managed one try and he personally returned duck eggs for all major facets of attack.
His edge was turned inside out until Manu went off. The Roosters then changed their attacking focus to the left for the rest of the evening. Had they stayed to the right, the score could have been huge.
He got caught with the ball a lot as he was too slow for the rushing defence.
He dropped the pill a few times.

Against the Raiders he was one of the major reasons we won. Last night he was one of the big reasons we lost.
You have to call a spade a spade

yeah...2 sinbins and 4 people on report = $1750 in fines.
That does not equate.

I thought Matamua played well. Set up our try with a five eight pass. Beautiful. And that young winger looks the goods.

Ref sees orange jumper, ref gets out the cane. Ref sees roosters jumper and gets out the lube.

He is 18 and playing in one of the shittest NRL teams of all time (if not the worst). Koroisau kept on going to the wrong option last night. I had a good view behind the posts. I think he gets a pass from our fans even when he plays very ordinary. Bula was not getting involved enough in attacking zones but when he did he was dangerous. Galvin ran the ball and set up Sam Fainu well. Galvin forced 2 dropouts and played both sides of the field. His halves partner Sezer was quiet and barely took any runs and his predictable slicing kicks that land gently into Tupou's hands every time were unthreatening. He had that one dropped ball in good attacking territory (I was on that side of the stadium). Maybe his best position isn't in the halves and he isn't great at setting up tries, but from a bad bunch he was a lot better. Galvin has to play right side in attack a lot more given the lack of threat on the right. Also faataape at right centre or nowhere in the team. His defence cost us after a good start in the first 10 minutes

I also want to see Galvin roaming more.

This team is far from the worst of all time, are you kidding me?
We flogged the Sharks and the Raiders - two mainstays of the top 8 for the past 5 or 6 years.

Yes, I dont think Api played well last night.

At the end of the day, Lachlan is being promoted as the permanent halves partner for Luai next year. I am less than thrilled about that as he has not had a great year results wise - currently 3 wins from 12 games played. Whilst he has been the 5/8th, we have scored 36 tries...half of which were scored in 3 games. Its not enough. We are the competition's worst attacking side.
We have to take a pragmatic look towards next year. Its a damn shame Fainu is injured as we cant accurately compare apples with apples. Suffice to say, it is dangerous to go into season 2025 with a half still on training wheels. At this stage, whether it is Galvin or Fainu, this will be the case.
