LIVE GAME Round 18 v Roosters live game discussion

Live Game Discussion
Tristan Hope showed more today than anything Tallyn did for us. TDS probably has a higher ceiling due to age but I believe currently Hope is a more complete NRL hooker
Tristan, for the most part, played like an experienced hooker, which he is. He ran at the right times, provides good service and surprised me with his no look pass for the try. He was solid without being outstanding. He does the basics well at NRL level and was in the competition all game. He certainly plyed better than TDS in his last game for us.

He showed today that we aren't bereft of depth in the 9 department. I like his attitude and I like his tradesman like approach. I'm not sure we need to be spending $ on a backup for Api - we already have one and one in the making. Hayward pushing Hope is a great situation for us. Hope my just be that late bloomer we have been looking for - he is more "Api like" than TDS.

The big question for us is can he string a bunch of those games together? Now that he knows the opportunity is in front of him he I trust that he fights Hayward to repalce Api in time - great for the club and both players.

We haven't lost much with TDS going early. Hope did and excellent job and Charlie wasn't too bad in the abckup role either. Neither are outstanding but with an off season to buikd up again I think they could be great backups.

AD had some good touches but he really is KoE standard - too many silly errors and his general kicking game is below average. As a 5/8th he makes a great prop.

K&L Lualilii were out of their depth - but Luke also out of position - I think they are worth perservering with in cup to see if they can crack it as they get older.

We might see another centre combination next week - Toa was busted - not sure he will be able to recover in time for the Wahs.

A strike edge player to compliment Sam F and a good 13 we go from bog average to competitive.

One in a row and a depleted Wahs next week - we are a chance!
Can’t agree about AD … he’s been very consistent this year with his defence improved greatly.
Plus 7 out of 7 got us the bickies today.
He’ll get a gig easily.

Couldnt be happier. Just needed to win and while it went to the wire the good moments were great. The Fainu's have got so much upside and beating the Roosters has been out of reach for so many years. A step forward today after a few frustrating weeks and a lot of BS innuendos resulting from it.

As a 5/8th? You're kidding aren't you?

As a 14 - great value but he needs to learn to play 13.

he's very hungry to prove himself under the spotlight , is Hope ,BIG thumbs up

You said he’s not NRL standard … now he could be?
I said as a 5/8th he makes a good prop. Not the same thing.

I mean if you guys are happy that what he provides is NRL standard as a 5/8th then we are selling ourselves short. He is OK at centre and he can kick a couple of goals.

For mine, and where I think where we need to go, he is a KoE level player. We need better as a 5/8th and as a centre if we are going to be competitive. A great fall back and could be a 14 if he could play 13 as well.

Nothing seems to have been communicated.
Strange as Toa was acting busted for most of the second half with weak carries and limp defensive efforts. He looked to be bravely battling instead of competing.
Maybe awaiting scans?
He provided the big play in offloading for our first try, but other than that he was terrible, surely injured

Peter Gough reffed the game fairly and his only blemish was explaing the rules to Tedesco and allowing him to change his mind about taking the conversion
Teddy should know the rules and should not have been allowed to change his decision ,.A minor thing but all in all I'm happy with Gough better than Sutton
To me it shows that the nrl has given them a directive to keep games close.

The amount of time that the team trailing gets 50/50 calls is shocking.

Nrl wants close games and this is how they're doing it.

I've seen it so many times this year and a big reason for comeback wins.

The big thing to take out of this game is the young players. A lot of those Roosters players are very young but highly regarded juniors. They couldn’t get it done versus the three times wooden spooners missing 3/4 of their spine. It just shows how big the step up to NRL is. We need to remember this when judging our own youngsters. And hopefully when the club gets stronger we can develop and promote them at the appropriate rate instead of rushing them straight into first grade.

True, but it might help the defence once they figure it out.

I prefer more chaos on the last, except when circumstances dictate.

Weve had some regrettable sleep inducing attack this year. Even the seagulls have slept through it.
You don't want chaos on kick chases. Look at what Weeks does to broken lines. The fullbacks these days are too good to not take advantage of it.

Taylorball on tackle 5, kick deep and chase hard. Same spot, same chase every single time..don't give them a way out.

I also like what Penrith do on the first two tackles. They encourage a quick PTB. The quicker they play it, the quicker the forwards have to get back. Next thing you know it's tackle 3 and the forwards haven't retreated yet

from a defensive point of view , we have been good when switched on this year .To day our 3rd man in was very lazy ,dropping to the ankles

Sorry Jolls
It might be just us older blokes but I’m with Hal on this one.
Thought Douie ran the show today, and would make a handy 14 in our side if we could find a centre for next year.
AD, damn it I wish he could play like that every game.
He is such a hot and cold player. Glad to see him turn up though.

I think the other big difference, is we saw our edge defense do it's stuff. FAR from perfect and still having issues, but we were at least moving up to cover gaps even if sometimes they wern't fully covered.

1 year ago we would have lost that game.

did you buy any shares in TAB when it floated a boat in the water. The 6 again is the easiest to control momentum, they are rarely reviewed , and the majority of viewers just hear the cow bell
