LIVE GAME Round 24 vs. Rabbitohs

Live Game Discussion
His interview was actually very good. He handled it perfectly. Said he loves the club, loves the boys. He simply put leaving down to an opportunity to go to the best. He didn't knock the club at all and sold it as a very reasonable decision
I respect your point. But he clearly tanked, hurting the club and hurting the boys.... So hypocricy I'm not interested in.
He can defend the centres from the wing!

Had a few too many Brandys so the judgement may be impaired but Sezers little poxy dab kicks on the last that went about 5 metres high and 2 metres out from the try line to the centre/winger was killing me. Get them higher numbnuts!!

That's a no brainer after the success of our 100 passes every day. 🤣
Our passing is atrocious. Everyone needs to practice passing from dummy half and just in general. So many passes that are too high and behind the team mate, even when they're not under any pressure. Our attack struggles so much due to lack of time due to posters racing behind them for the fall bloody ball. Basic skills that all players should have

ugly, ugly win.

we can be proud of the effort and scramble shown but some of the defence on display was atrocious. i will say though that the worst offenders (Doueihi, Sezer and Mason) at least won’t be first choice next year. Laulili’i’s got some work to do in regards to reads but his trysaver was the difference.

without Api we’re rudderless and we’re stuck in a situation where without him we lose control. Luai can’t get here quick enough. it’s like we’re playing with two 6’s. Da Silva will obviously improve but it will continue to plague us through the remainder of this year.

on Mason i love his urgency and some of his touches in attack, but if he can’t attack the high ball then he can’t play fullback in first grade, simple as that. he’s got some work to do, but once the ball’s in his hands, he’s a pleasure to watch.

the pack can only afford to carry one of Twal and Klemmer next year, even with Utoikamanu leaving. Richo’s going to have to recruit smartly there with next to nothing on the market. god knows what we look for. Papali’i is going to be a huge loss.

want to make mention as many other posters have done about Sione Fainu. what a brilliant young middle forward. with him and Pole we’ve got two very agile middles that will trouble defenders for the next decade.

some glimpses of the quality we have were on show, but we are nowhere near done in regards to recruiting, especially in the pack. whatever you do don’t turn the TV on come Thursday night.

You know, looking at our team there is a fundamental problem with the physical attributes of the players that make up our team.

I would have to call on @happy_tiger to back me up here because some time ago he wrote about the difficulties of passing to players of different heights.

At the time @happy_tiger's claims were met with derision, but after a full season of 100 passes at training every day you would no doubt have to agree that nothing has improved and even the most sceptical amongst us would finally have to agree that @happy_tiger was definitely onto something here.

To highlight how this is a problem at Wests Tigers I have done a bit of research on the heights of our player and have looked at our tallest regular NRL players vs our shortest regular NRL players and found the following:

David Klemmer - height 199cm or 6"6'

Api Koroisau - height 172cm or 5"8'

This is a height variation of some 27cm from the shortest to the tallest, this is almost a foot in the old measurement for those who have not fully come to grips with the metric system, little wonder that passes are not finding their targets.

I would propose that we take a good look at our recruitment process and aim for much more consistency in the height of our players in future and set a bench mark of player height at 185.5cm or 6"1' give or take 2.5cm or 1" in future, this being the median height of the above mentioned players.

Incidentally, while carrying out my research I also stumbled onto the fact that around 185cm or 6"1' is the average height of players in the NRL, further reinforcing my belief that this would resolve many of our ball handling issues in the future.

This is crap for a variety of reasons.
Mostly I'd argue you become a better passer by practising hitting various targets. This hasn't actually been proven for passing a football but I has been proven in the biomechanics of other sports. The leading example is those that dedicate shooting a basketball from multiple locations become better freethrow shooters than those who practice the same amount of time but solely from the free throw line. Thus passing overall should become more accurate by passing to various heights.
Additionally and more importantly having varied body sizes and shapes allows for different players to perform different roles with in the team as well as changing the defensive patterns of the opposition.

I learnt the other day in the “what’s your forum name mean” thread that there are two Happy Tigers.
Did you get the correct one Hank?

Anyway the reason why one of the Happy’s were derided for this preposterous idea that the Ht diff between players causes them to miss their target when passing the ball to each other, is bcoz that is ridiculous.
Toovey, Langer, Adam Reynolds, don’t seem to have a problem.
I’m sure if we did 1min of research we could find more. I reckon if you put this idea to those three they would laugh at the suggestion.

You kind of get the point, but also miss it. As you said the average height is 185cm, yet I would guess that only a quarter-third of our squad are that height. We have more players under 180cm than anyone else in the comp, and it shows...

All teams have a few tall players and some short ones. There's nothing unusual about the difference between Klem and Api.

When it comes to passing behind, above or below someone that comes down to skill. Our players are too dumb, lacking in skills and intelligence to execute basic plays. This goes for both attack and defence. And this is why we're wooden spooners

Never ceases to amaze me how many people on this forum just have no idea when someone is taking the piss. 🤣

You would think that one of the prerequisite for supporting the Wests Tigers would be to have some sort of a sense of humour.

I'll quote Rex Mossop once again and say that I'm flabbergasted that there are people on this forum that would take something like this seriously.

Don't worry ....I got it 😆

Well good on ya, ya got me, but it never ceases to amaze me how me people make up crazy excuses for being inept, and I was trying to be as polite as I could Hank. 👍🏻
