LIVE GAME Round 5 v Broncos

Live Game Discussion
Not sure I can cop much more of Bula. His positional play and attitude to defence leaves a lot to be desired. I'd say he is up there in with the worst in the comp.

It cost us the game last week him being on the other side of the field when the break occurred and tonight when the game was in the balance he was out of position on a couple of key occasions again.

Surely if we have top 8 aspirations we need to do better at fullback.
I don't agree at all, but it was interesting in the press conference that Reynolds said when talking about the chip kick that they had looked at Bula during the week and were planning the chip to catch him out. Obviously they're seeing something similar to your frustrations.

The 10 minutes either side of half time killed them … although Reynolds was a big factor there …

Ended up being a little more one sided than I thought would be the final score based on the first half … but I think you can see the improvement in them …

they need another win soon though to keep the belief up …

I was at the game.

Physically, we handled it fine. Structurally even.

It was the kicking game of two 36 year old halves that kept Brisbane in it.

We're just not winning the key moments right now and it's costing us games. The Newcastle, Warriors and even tonight could've been very different if we capitalise.

5 tries to 7 with the Arthurs knock on and the Selwyn 5m forward pass. Throw Royce's certain barge over in there...

Not a lot falling our way at the moment. Which is a shame because, despite the lack of wins, they're an entirely different football side.

Road trips up against a full strength Brisbane side with 4 teenagers in the side and a few dodgy calls, in years gone by it would've been 60 blot.

Am I the only one that sees more upside than down with Luke L?

Has had his moments, but generally - and especially for his age - I think he has done far more good than bad. And the good has been real good.

I like him a lot.

Obviously Skelton slots right back in, but if he keeps developing I'd reshuffle our backline for him. Big fan.

I think he has the potential to have a long successful career. However still think he needs to spend more time in the lower grades to mature and develop (as is understandable given his age)

3 mins to go ht we are up 12 - 6 after 3 tries and all momentum.means nothing sure but a few goals and we would have been ahead. Field goal from Reynolds really sparked the Broncs. He chip and chase was amazing. We win today if Reynolds is out and no doubt he will be soon

LL played well tonight, he ripped in and didn’t do much wrong except he maybe should have held his position better in the Broncos forward pass try.
He always runs the ball hard and his defensive contact seemed a lot better tonight, so he is no doubt improving with age and experience, but I’m still concerned that he’s very much on the small side compared to most other NRL wingers and I don’t think he’s all that fast either.
A1 for effort, but does he have the right physical attributes to succeed as an NRL winger?

Laulilii is well ahead of the curve as an 18 year old but he's not a full-time first grader yet.

We don't need to rush players into first grade with the timeline we're on.

If we were a title contender and he was an Inglis or Folau, sure, stick him in. But we aren't and he's not so let's keep things as they were when Skelton is back. Dropping any of Doueihi, To'a or Turuva for him is also not happening.

Just watched the replay. Scoreline flattered the broncos. We weren’t terrible but lost some crucial moments and then fell out of the game. We could get them later on in the season if we win some games and grow in confidence. In saying that, it was the result that we all expected but weren’t hoping for. We’re not far away and looking heaps better than previous seasons. I’d be VERY surprised if we don’t get quite a few more wins this season

FFS are you just a troll? Seriously i am not bagging him, not sayin to drop him, not questioning his courage, ability or talent, I am saying that IMO tonight he did not play to the high standard i have come to expect from him… that a player of his experience and skill was rather predictable and sluggish compared to to his average game.. that i expect more from our captain.. cool?? 🤷‍♂️
Just cos a player doesn’t play to an expected high standard, doesn’t mean their heart is not in it.

Reading between the lines I see you have absolutely no idea.

Just way too young of a side to win any NRL match. Richo needs to recruit some experienced players. Not saying we need to be as old as the Dragons but we have probs 1.5 mill in Cap space and it could jag us some adult, proven NRL players. A few Jack Bird level players. They make a big difference.

Didn't get to see any of the game my modem decided to crap itself not long before kickoff. Sounds like we were in with a shout before HT. Didn't get the rub of the green in the slightest which is no surprise.
Would have liked to have seen a bit of what Latu is about, but no modem incoming for 3-5 working days things are rough in this household atm 😂

I thought we played very well for most of the first half but lost focus and control of the game for a few minutes at the end of it. Missing the first 3 goals didn’t help us.
We came out slowly in the second half and paid dearly.
I don’t usually complain about referees but i thought they scored maybe 3 tries from forward passes and their first would never have been a try if we’d have scored it. Arthurs never grounded that kick through properly.
We were short on experience with too much youth out there tonight up against a very experienced squad full of quality.
Effort was there and I thought the scoreboard flattered the Broncos really.

What a poor take! We absolutely need to stick with this bloke and develop him, not drop him for Mason.

Let's put that game into perspective.

We played a team in their own backyard that is a significant step up in class to the previous opposition we have played this year. And we played them without a few of our class players.

Our first half was the best half of footy we have played this year. In fact, it was the best we have played in years. Yes, we have scored more points in halves over the years, but there was a structure and toughness in that first half I have not seen in a very long time. The guys actually looked like they knew their roles and looked very dangerous in the attacking 20. We also more than did our job in making yardage. Goalkicking, one bad defensive lapse and a shocking decision in the Arthars try hid the fantastic effort and execution from our boys. We looked like a good first grade football team out there.

Then, there was the second half.

In saying all of that, whenever we play the Broncos, I always feel the News Limited force behind them through the referee. The referee DID NOT make us lose that game, we did. But, it feels uncomfortable with that fat News Limited idiot making sure we get our asses kicked for having the temerity to challenge one of the teams they own.

Im not going to bag our boys for that. They ARE improving.....but improvement takes time. Im happy with the performance of our organisation.....we are having a dig.
