Completely agree. He often overdoes the jostling, fending, hopping and bobbing around. It achieves nothing and halts the flow of our attack. What little flow there is that is...

Yeah I’m the same. The ref didn’t cost us the game. We had calls go for & against us. The ref could have easily left those 2 forward passes by the Broncos but called them thankfully.

We lost due to 2 factors, the Broncos incredible discipline & scrambling in defence in their red zone AND our inability to coach plays in the red zone that break down the defence. No players in motion requiring defensive decisions & no speed in our plays allowing Broncos time to make decisions.

It’s not a solely a Luai & AD issue, it’s primarily a coaching issue. We have tackle-busting & offloading weapons on our edges in Fainu & Taylan but don’t often use them to their strengths. We got a glimpse of what Samuela can do with Api’s try.

I don't know what it means for a referee to cost a close game, because there will always be other factors. However, there were a couple of atrocious calls that led directly to points. Willison clearly grassed with Douehi standing over him and touching him then offloads. Dummy half takes 3 steps and is 2m wide of the ruck and is absolutely fair game. At that point we had been dominating field position. It was ilan incredibly impactful incorrect decision.

Madden back at 7, Doueihi at 6. A combination that works!
Luai cannot play any other position other than 5/8 and even at 5/8 his stepping and dodging is not conducive to fluent attacking football. It's not every time he has the ball----but too often. A disjointed attack.
His teammates stop because they do not know what he is going to do next. Speed in attack disappears.
Benji needs to take up his offer and place him elsewhere.
IMO, Winning combinations outweigh the dollars Luai is on.
 
12 months ago Benji tried to sign Reynolds as our halfback for about $1.5million over 2 years. Shane Richardson flew to Brisbane and went to Reynolds’ house to pitch the idea to him . All reported in yesterday’s SMH.
The deal never went further than that and Reynolds re-signed with the Broncos for one final season. We would have had a Reynolds/Luai halves combination. This was Benji driven. Then Benji gave Doueihi his chance to start the season at 7, Luai at 6.
Cue to this season , Luai is injured then the re-jigged Madden/ Doueihi combination have been winning games and our attack has been better with Madden at 7.
Thursday night , I’d play Madden/Doueihi as before, Luai on the bench coming on at the same time as Royce when Raiders forwards are tiring!! Team first mentality .
Reynolds was the difference last night , what he did was calculated 💯. One of my best mates follows Souths and he is still upset that Souths let him go, the bloke is an elite player. Our halves combo against Broncos didn’t work, it needs to change.

This "very few 6 agains" in the 2nd half seems to be the normal IMO. They seem to drop off after halftime.
ie. Lay down the law early and 2nd half flows.

You could argue having a proper 7 allowed AD to flourish, Luai could be even better with a 7 beside him. We've seen it at Penrith and no im not saying Jock is comparable to Cleary.
I think AD to centre with a license to float and run like a second 6 in attack is where we will eventually land i just hope it doesnt take us too long.

100 percent agree, Benji is stubborn though so I suspect it's going to take a long time and many losses before we get there. Especially If we jag a win or 2 along the way as he will continue to persist.

This was what I was thinking last night instead of sleeping mate, playing centre in defence and roving commission in attack we could even try this approach with Luai to improve the attack if things start to get desperate, he defends well out wide anyhow.

Just hope the losses don't rack up before Benji bites the bullet, move Jock into 7 next game man, don't procrastinate.

A good point. My take on it.
Question is Doueihi tends to crab sideways a bit and from the 5/8 position can be tolerated.
From a centre position it would crowd the wingers with the sideline.
If he straightened the attack, it would be perfect. That is the play I'm not sure he would do, straighten the attack and pass the ball?
Madden @ 7 and Luai @ 6 might work also.
How to do to include Doueihi and Luai somewhere is a mystery. Madden has his spot @ 7 IMO.
Next week's team will give us an insight on Benji's thoughts as a coach wanting to win games 1st and foremost.
 
I watched the game last night with my mum. She says “I like Doueihi, but he’s a hog isn’t he?” And he is. It’s why I’ve always said he’s a running 5/8. A 7’s first instinct shouldn’t be to run. Not bagging him, cos he’s a potent ball runner. But he’s not an organiser which you need from your 7.
 
Really proud of the effort and intent from the team, even when talty scored the work ethic was still there to make the tackle. Young maka lacks some experience but he will get there eventually. Our attack is also still figuring itself out but man the mindset is there to compete and when can be proud of that as supporters.

It’s up to Benji now to figure out how to get Luai, Doueihi and madden on the run on team. We need all 3 firing. A innovative game plan is needed.

Keep the faith friends we have turned a corner.
