LIVE GAME Round 8 v Sharks

Live Game Discussion

We played for the full 80 minutes today and did it again in golden point.

There is one thing that we need to work on though and that is our 5th tackle kicks either side of half way.

We simply don't get enough distance or height on them and we are giving teams the first tackle on their 20 or 30.

We won today, but if it had gone the other way, we would be howling about a number of things that need work, the most glaring all season being the depth of our kicks and enough height to allow the chasers to pin teams against a sideline or within their 10.

Other than that, you can't fault the effort.
Agree with the kick depth
Also our lack of Speed in the backline (exclude Bula) is worrying to me, The old saying you can’t train for speed you ever have it or not.

Maybe bring Doueihi in occasionally to put up the high ones and give him reign to take the line on if he sees an opportunity when those with less lateral movement are bringing pressure. Also give him an odd 40/20 shot and especially when the wind is at our back.

I have never seen Adam as more than a backup in the halves and have been more impressed with him than ever this year playing centre and filling in at wing. Still, I think that he brings skills that should be utilised more, particularly on the last play.

Really curious what made them go back and look at Pole's tackle in the previous set.

I'm not one to blame our losses and poor performances on the refereeing, but it seriously felt like they were nitpicking for a reason to bin one of our players.
The call to remove a player for 10 minutes cannot be called nitpicking.

The big thing with Adam this year is he is staying in his lane and doing his job.

Previously, he was trying to do everything himself and make the hero play and carry the weight of the team on his back. This year he is way more controlled and is playing more consistently.

Agreed, though he is probably the only player in our current side that can address some of the kicking deficiencies that you brought up.

The occasional spiral bomb, for sure, but we are paying Luai 1.2 million a year. He needs to put in some reps in that area. We can't be relying on our centres to kick.

Many won't agree, but I'd still take Adam Reynolds for 2 years while Latu eases in.

Reynolds has some injury issues and will spend time on the sidelines, so Latu would get time in grade anyway. It would just be great to see what the team could do with an elite kicker.

Add Taylan May, Adam Reynolds and 2 quality forwards and you've got a team that competes for top 4 on paper.

Seyfarth has been good for us this year. We all know he isn’t the long term answer at second row but is playing there due to poor squad management and holding his own. Need to upgrade his position no doubt but his defence is good enough that we can still win games with him in the starting line up.

Not his fault the club didn’t sign anyone to replace papilii or Bateman.

Any comments re the crowd ? I watched at home but thought there might have been more than 14,812. Those heads on the hill were pretty close together !
But one thing I’m certain of, if we’d played that at CSS we would have lost !
Mate ive seen crowds like that where they've put 19-20k up as attending.. whether they have been fudging the numbers for all the years who knows, but I don't see how it's possible to fit another 5k into the oval.
