Roy Masters SMH Article re WT ownership

**Theoretically:**
I think this has the potential to be great for us.

Ive maintained for years 50/50 - while fair and even - just holds us back in regards to competing.

As long as the controlling body is _seeing the big picture and has WTs best interests at heart_….we can really start to move forward. (we still have a long way to go in this regard)

No more stalemate, trudging thru mud, debating until the cows come home on minute details until both parties are satisfied on the pettiest of decisions.

===================================

**Practically:**
Probably more of the same average, mediocre rubbish

Roy Masters harping on about Balmain flogging Wests in the NSW Cup and people referring to the club as simply, "The Tigers".

I'm so sick of this debate. Can we one day put an end to it and accept that we are now one club?

I agree. We need to accept that we are one club. We need to have one home ground. We need to ensure that we get the selection of juniors from the Macarthur nursery (The amount of teenage kids on contracts with Cronulla/Manly/Roosters who reside in Airds,Ashcroft and Claymore is staggering, laughingly they will be considered their 'juniors') in which we can develop into NRL players. We need to not care if we are referred to as Tigers or Wests, because the Tigers are Wests and the Wests are Tigers (at an NRL level). :sign:

Sheens till getting paid. We must be the biggest joke of the nRL.

So what's the alternative? Most on here wanted him gone, did you expect that would end well? If you got laid off would you walk away without a penny?

A settlement should have been done by now. Do you think David gallop is still on the payroll of the NRL? NO, they paid him out and moved on. We are THE joke of the NRL.

Hmmm, seems a comment of mine was removed, but no courtesy IM to let me know and why…dictatorship, perhaps?

Who cares? Whilst we all take pride in the achievements of our lower grades, they are a reserve grade and there to support our first grade squad. The best players should be playing together regardless of what colours they run out in.

Perhaps you would if the shoe was on the other foot

I'm being perfectly honest when I say that I couldn't care less. I actually wish it had been the other way around if it would have avoided this constant debate. Whatever gives us the best chance to win the NRL. Although it is disappointing that we won't see the traditional Balmain and Magpie jumpers in the NSW Cup this year, I think combining our reserve grade could be the best move to unite us as one club.

Whilst the likes of Sironen are on the board, it will always be about Balmain.

That's constructive.

Go ask Wests how Sironen trated them last year and years before. Go ask BNRU how Sironen treated them last year (regarding fringe BRET players; was funny how when there was talk of Wests/BNRU talks for 2013, that all of a sudden BRET started to pass down fringe NSW Cup players for the last few rounds of Bundy), when they were in fact doing WT a favour by housing their fringe NYC players. Go ask others who have been treated this way. Sironen only cares about the interests of Balmain in the JV. It's based on facts, and what I've seen first hand.

I got no problem with the lower grades combining, my problem is people telling others to get over the fact that the team that brought them to this JV was getting humiliated each and every week. Its such an easy thing to say until you're the one in that position. If WT's wanted a JV so bad they should have joined them up as soon as the Magpies started getting fed scraps, not as soon as Balmain couldn't afford to keep their side affloat

Yes, it's quite funny how they want to be in bed with Wests now…they're poorly run. Go ask Balamin about the debacle around the 2012 Arthur Beetson Cup where they failed to supply a referee and made the Balmain representing players play in their own shorts/socks. Terribly amateurish!

I'm not sure what this has to do with WT ownership. Wests juniors have their own issues. It's not about who is running a better shop, the emphasis should be on both of them improving their operations.

GNR in fairness there have been proposals for many years to join the lower grade sides. Always stapped by one Mr. K. Hammond. It is why when the merger became certain his position was no longer sustainable.

But anyway it will be interesting where this all leads Wests Tigers in terms of the future.

In terms of the past I have my memories and that will more then suffice and I just won't get involved in the petty BS slanging matches that this style of thread always degenerates into anymore.

Best of luck chaps

I believe the last paragraph of the article gives a clue as to how this will probably pan out - Wests Group will hold the deciding vote until Balmain can repay any loans made to them by the Group - the deciding vote would only ever be used in cases where agreement can't be reached and the Wests Group would be crazy to ever vote in a way that would damage the WT brand as they will be the major shareholder. The chairperson will be Wests aligned for the next 12 months anyway so that is not an issue. At the end of the 12 months i would hope that a chairperson outside of both parties would be appointed in a show of consolidating WT rather than dividing it.

I think the club should be united at NRL, NYC and State cup level and still have out junior areas. To me the Tiger is the most marketable emblem in the NRL and it should remain that way.

I remember when the merger happened both sides thought thet were gone. Turns out that Balmain would have got the last spot as Norths were broke. The merge made sense then and it still does. It was tough for supporters of both traditional clubs to accept but now 10 plus years on we are the Wests Tigers ( I only here us being called Wests or Tigers). Yes Balmain is doing it tough at the moment but that should not be seen as opportunity to kick them when they are down.

It is intersting to not the comment section on the SMH all stating that Wests have all the good juniors. For mine we get good juniors from both areas and from outside the areas as well. The Balmain SG Ball side from last year has a number of promisiong players and the likes of Sironen and Woods has come throuigh Balmain juniors recently. As well as Wests with Lawrence and Tedesco.

I think we are now one club and it is time to put any past differences behind us. I know some people on both sides hope to see the return of the traditional side but it wont happen at NRL level, we are the Wests Tigers.
