OFFICIAL Royce Hunt #298

I’m unsure why it hasn’t been shared, maybe given recent whispers about the club and injuries, but it happens at every team. Players play through injury. We took our kids to a training session while in town weeks ago and spoke with Royce. We got talking about his junior club which is our local club in Perth. He said he’s been playing with fractured ribs since the Newcastle game, we didn’t think much of it at the time but he wasn’t training with the team when we were out there.
Explains why he was unexpectedly replaced for the Eels game. Cheers.

It was only out of necessity. No Pole injury n Hunt would be still coming off the bench.
There are always options. Sione impresses every time he gets more minutes and we haven't done anything with the money we got from releasing Klemmer so we may as well have kept him for depth.

Find it unfair he's getting a lot of crap - he was never brought to the club to play as a starting prop, or for more than 30-35 minutes I'd imagine.

He is an impact prop, and before that horror game he started - he had been doing a pretty good job of it.

Wouldn't call him a terrible signing just yet.

Yea agreed. I don't see him as someone required to achieve amazing stats for us. Let him do his job off the Bench.

If that's true then the guys a machine, even only doing 1 run in his last game, if I fractured my ribs, I doubt I could walk let alone run.

The way people have turned on Hunt is kind of weird. He was doing his job very well for like the first 8-10 weeks of the season. His job is to make 10-15m a run for short stints. He's not a big minutes guy and never has been, just look at his build.

When you've got May capable of playing 60+ minutes, Pole and Fainu who can both play 40, you don't need Hunt for more than 25 or so a game. I don't think there's many better options in the league for that very specific impact prop role who wouldn't be wasted there.

Weird?
You just basically said hes not doing his job...at least his last outing in firsts he didnt.
Maybe the fractured ribs thing is true and they thought he could start a game (ie: play the game in an even tougher more arduous fashion than what hes used to coming off the bench) but his ribs were too painful
Sounds a bit suss to me ...dont recall many playing with fractured ribs.
Ive had this too and couldnt imagine being tackled by an NRL first grade forward when the slightest cough, laugh or deep breath is excruciating

I find his wages unfair...

If Payne Hass is getting 1.0 Mill to play 80 odd minutes,
Royce should be on 250k Max...

He's lucky to have played 20 mins a game even at his best for us.
in an 80 minute game, He should be looking to play a little more than that.

The negativity abounds over Royce it seems. Im willing to reserve judgement.... Yes, starting prop is likely out of his skillset at the present time, but Benji had to play someone... Its been said but why is he at the club? Impact off the bench and those back fence hitups is why, and also as a mentor for the younger guys coming through. You dont get to rep Samoa or the Maori if you are shit at RL...
To this point his stats are decent, without being world beating, 70m + 7 hitups on average for time on the field, honestly not bad. Compared to Stopano in bleak city with with 100m and 9 hit ups, id say hes effective for us in short stints, without having to pay the guy a million bucks to do it.
Can he be fitter? Yes. Something he needs to work on, but that falls on the Coaching staff.
A stint in regs might be what he needs to freshen up and return to the impact we saw earlier rounds.

Hunt reminds me of George Rose and Andrew Fatfita….no desire to get fit….

Fifita was overweight - had more than his fair share amount of time in fat club....
But his match fitness was on par with anyone in the game back then.

You don't do what he did in the game / at origin - If you can't carry the can some.
Still hard to fathom why they let him walk. Damaging on his day and great hands.

My nephew was playing U/20's at Manly when George Rose was there. In gym sessions, you had to do a certain number of reps to complete the workout with 20 as the mark for chinups. My nephew could do 20 reps in one set. Poor old George could only just get 1. Nephew reckons he'd be in the gym all night trying to hit his numbers.
