My username betrays me on this one, though I come to talk common sense…
When we negotiated with ANZ, we did so from a weak position. No sugar coating it, we could say we have a massive but fair-weather fanbase, but who could knock the fair weather fans from not turning up, when the truth of the matter is we have a less than 50-50 chance of winning. We rocked up the negs with ANZ, giving them every single opportunity at local travelling fans, conceeding interstate teams to both Leichhardt and Campbelltown... Broncos, Cowboys, Storm, Raiders... the best travelling away teams allotted to ANZ fixtures.
There is no mistaking that if we could fill Leichhardt and Campbelltown, we make way more money that the guaranteed money from ANZ... but we would be gambling. We all know our form can be diabolical, our heartland games are often against poor travelling fanbases. If we were a perennial top 8 team we would only be moving games to ANZ because we needed the extra capacity,l we are just an episode in utterly diabolical marketing/success failures.
Forget this question on what has Macarthur done for the tigers... there has been pathetic attendance depending on how we are travelling at Leichhardt as well... lets not point fingers. How about we wait for our pathetic mob to make us contenders and start asking them to produce results for their sponsorship and gate sales.
On here, we are the pathetic superfans, we are painted on. We need the players, the performances, to galvanize sections of the casuals. ANZ would bend to us, rather than we lube up for them if we could get it together.
