Rumour: Tigers sign Tim Mannah for rest of 2019

@Geo yes, agreed to sign on the dotted line but Greencronies&co can not register it whilst he’s still under contract with Parra. They’d be mad to deny his career move continuing anyway

Popcorn should start flying soon enough! Haha
Will post the article for a few sources claiming it is the Eels having 2nd thoughts..

Yep.....Another lesson in waiting to the Club makes it official..

Hopefully it get sorted so we can finalise our top 30 roster..

I'd be ropable if I was Mannah and the Eels refused my release so he could get the necessary number of games to qualify for ESL transfer after Arthur has said pretty well that he won't be in the equation as Eels for rest of year.

@gallagher Very disappointing. I do believe it is the backlash from fans stopping Arthur, if he knows what’s good for him then he should be letting him go immediately. Knows it’ll help us.

This will definitely derail both teams seasons if it doesn’t happen.

I can cop being lead on by an international but not Tim Mannah. For God sake thats just embarrassing.

Tim Mannah is an international!!

@Spartan117 pretty much screwing a player that has given them so much and is willing to leave peacefully

And we have some of our own bagging our club

He will certainly be better than packer and will never dog it

He will also be great like Lawrence for the young blokes

@Spartan117 it's about money. Tigers have less in the cap than Mannah is on and the Eels don't want to pay the difference to let him go.

Incorrect mate.

Not about money.

If anyone has the mail on this it's Spartan

Only if Parra holding him back has any legs.. which I believe it does, not hard to see the backlash they’ve brought upon themselves Hap. Will be here for next weekor not at all

Clint Gutherson insists he’s ready to lead Parramatta on his own as the club prepares to part ways with long-time captain Tim Mannah this week.
After spending all 11 years of his career at the Eels, Mannah is expected to be granted a release from his deal to join the Wests Tigers until the end of the season.
Mannah is still training with the club however Eels players are resigned to being without the final remaining member of the club’s 2009 grand final side.

“He’s been here for all his junior career and now it’s his 11th or 12th year at the top and he’s been to the top,” Gutherson said on Wednesday.
“He’s been to grand finals; so he’s been through everything.
“It’s never good to see, but it’s none of my business. It’s up to him and his management and the club to do what they need to do.
“I just hope it all gets sorted, and Timmy’s happy. That’s all you want to see.

“You want to see a fellow teammate happy and if it can all get sorted quickly, it’s going to be better for everyone.”
Mannah has played 233 games in the blue-and-gold, and was appointed captain alongside former teammate Jarryd Hayne in 2014.
It’s a standing he has maintained for the past six years, including a shared role with Gutherson over the past 18 months.
Gutherson, 24, said he had learnt a lot under Mannah’s mentorship.
“I got thrown into the deep end there last year when we weren’t going too well. But Timmy’s an exceptional leader on and off the field,” he said.

Mannah’s likely exit would leave Gutherson as the likely captain for the long- term, given he re-signed last month until the end of the 2022 season.
“It won’t really change my role on the field. I just go out there and try and do the same thing every week. It’s pretty simple for me,” he said.
“But if Timmy’s not there, someone’s going to have to step up (too).”
That person could be star lock Nathan Brown, who had been urged by coach Brad Arthur to lead the team’s forward pack in Mannah’s recent absence.
Mannah has been left out of Arthur’s top 17 for the past two games.
“(Brad) said to me, ‘you’re a leader of this forward pack and I want you to go out there and lead’. I’ve taken that on board and I’m really excited,” Brown said.

This Tim Mannah situation is, in my opinion, one of the more serious problems facing our game. A one club player, previous club captain, pillar of the eels community can be let go ‘mid-week’ without so much as a handshake let alone a gold watch. It’s wrong. In fact there’s a lot wrong with it ....
Firstly, players and clubs are not rewarded for loyalty. Therefore, fans are not rewarded for their loyalty to long-standing players. There needs to be strong dispensation for one club, or at least long standing, players. Something that encourages a players love of the jersey, the club, the community.
Secondly, rugby league is tribal. I loved the Balmain era of roach, Elias, Pearce, sirinen etc - they were tigers through and through. They were offered better money elsewhere but they stayed loyal to Tigers. Fans stayed loyal to them. It meant something - there was a bond. Today, your hero can be your mortal enemy in the space of 7 days. Ridiculous in my opinion.
Thirdly, there is no importance placed on contracts by either party. This is a really poor example of modern life. Now, not only does your word mean nothing, but your legal responsibility means nothing also. This too is sad and is a poor reflection on modern society.
Lastly, the amount of wasted, splurged and thrown away money is criminal. Clubs are lucky to break even on an annual basis. The NRL and clubs are fighting for limited revenue streams yet it is apparently ok to piss millions away in poor decision making.
I love footy but the game i grew up loving is fast evolving into a corporate disaster. Tim Mannah is an Eel. Always has been and should be till his last day. He’ll be a Tiger by tomorrow I’m sure and I’ll wish him well and I’ll barrack for him but my heart won’t be quite in it. I wonder if his will?

I agree. For a long time I have felt that NRL should offer ever-increasing incentives to keep long-term players, e.g. something that increases year on year. They have long-serving allowance but it's very small in context of the whole cap.

The positive would be that the more years the player spends, the less cap they take and the hard it becomes for opposition to prise them off you. I agree that a Tim Mannah should never be pushed out of a club.

The negative might be that poor clubs can't afford to keep some players even if there's limited salary cap impact, because the salary outside of the cap might still be a burden financially. Also, it doesn't help clubs that might need to clear a space in their Top 30. Ultimately extra concessions would advantage rich clubs in terms of being less likely to shed experienced players and not fazed by the cost.

Just on the long serving player allowance, how many players would Parra have that qualify? Surely Mannah would be the only one that qualifies? He'd be handy to have next year if you have only him to spend that cap allowance on? Same with us and Rowdy moving forward. He's the only one that qualifies and better than having a fringe first grader in the top 30.
