Run Home and Finals Hopes

Assuming the Roosters win today, we are 5-1 against the top 4, 4-1 against the bottom 4 and 0-7 against the middle 7\. We can beat anyone if we're up but we aren't up every week. 5/6 will get us to the finals which we are capable of, but doing it is another thing.

Yes. The Roosters have gone to an early big lead.
I'm not worried about playing the top 4 teams. I'm worried about the bottom 4 team

Despite their delicate position in the bottom half of the eight, Brisbane will be a shoe in to make it - the refs will guarantee that. Our best hope is to take the place of the Warriors who have now fallen into the bottom spot after that loss on the weekend, but we will have to win every game from here on to make up for the two game gap and our inferior F/A.

It's a huge ask, not impossible, but highly unlikely and of course the Warriors will have to lose a few games as well. It's probably too little, too late, but I hope a finals berth will remain a possibility in our run home for at least a few weeks more.

Few teams falling into our laps now

Penrith ,Warriors possibly Brisbane

Cows will do us a massive favour and beat Brisbane , you watch

Hey, I said it before the souths win, we can beat every team in this competition if we regain our early season form and stay fit. Plenty of naysayers here. Lucky the team has a more positive outlook. See for example the interview with Corey Thompson. I'll chose his optimism over the negativity (just being realistic) any day.

I was optimistic until after the Titans game, that hurt.
Now I'm just happy the players have proven to themselves the first few weeks weren't a fluke, and although I have only a bit more hope, I have a lot more pride and satisfaction when thinking about the season as a whole (and some regret about the mid season and mid table team issues). If we make it, then it will be well deserved given the teams we have beaten and the way we will have to close out the season.

Honestly given we've beaten every top 4 team this year even if we got 8th spot I'd be confident we could go on a run ala cowboys last year

I do fear Roosters and Melbourne next time round though, they are both much better than when we last played them

I reckon we play penrith/sharks week 1 should we make it. But I stress, one week at a time

Let's not Jonah them eh!

We are realistically 3 wins from the top 8.

4 points out of the 8 but nearly 30 points worse off For/against (equates to another win needed), and we have to play the Raiders down there - our bogey team that always puts points on us.

Anyway, Farah and Mbye have made us a better team, so here’s hoping.

Need to beat dogs and manly by a fair margin. Agree about the raiders game, that's probably the hardest game left for us given recent history

Does it matter? even if we made it to the finals we would only be making up the numbers.

Yeah lets not bother…may as well go to Bali now... :unamused:

I'm not saying give up. I want this team to play their best for every game. I'm just saying our best will not win a final should we make it there. We have too many positions made up of average joes. I'm looking forward to 2020 honestly.

We've beaten Storm twice, Rorters, Dragons, Rabbits this year. Is there anyone else can finish 1st!

Maybe the Panthers.

I think you have totally owned this guy, if it was a fight the ref would stop it right now

We are one good win against the Dogs and Brisbane ,Penrith or Warriors losing 13+ away from being one win behind

The way the Sharks are playing they could give it to the Broncs Who knows with the Titans v Warriors , Titans show up and the could beat the Warriors ,bounce back and Manly will test the Panthers

I'm not counting my chickens before they are hatched , but in the modern game things can change very quickly , good or bad

Looking at the draw it seems a lot of teams fighting for points are playing similar teams. We have to hope to beat these teams, and that these teams topple our opponents.

Dogs
Knights
Raiders
Souths

All feature heavy across the board. Riff and warriors look most likely to drop.

We need to beat souffs atleast once in the two games we play them. This weekend is the best chance and would give us enormous confidence. I reckon they get us in the last round as they fine tune for the finals though

Saints at leichhardt I reckon we roll them again, based on their last few weeks they are puss and so long as we aren't complacent every game bar the raiders away should be certainties

But the tigers never surprise me so we probably beat souffs twice and dragons then lose to garbage like manly and dogs

Haha that's the fear I have too.

I think we will beat Souths twice and the Dragons. I just hope we can turn it around and beat Canberra. Imagine if we beat Souths twice, Dragons twice, Storm twice, Melbourne once and miss the finals?

And an inch away from beating the roosters twice too.

Warriors are probably most likely to fall out of the 8 of the three mentioned. They have a weird run home too, with Titans, Dogs, Saints, Penrith, Knights and Raiders. The Dogs would be the only side I'd say they are a certainty to beat.

Just to clarify, we are not 100% guaranteed to get into the top 8, even if we win all our remaining 6 games. Here is a ladder I mocked up based on us winning all games, and other results going to the team which is ranked higher on the ladder at the start of that round.

Team Pts F-A
Storm 40 184
Dragons 38 163
Rabbits 36 144
Roosters 34 161
Panthers 34 91
Sharks 34 67
Broncos 32 25
Warriors 32 11
Wests 32 -16
Titans 20 -134
Knights 20 -155
Raiders 18 25
Manly 14 -113
Cowboys 12 -134
Bulldogs 10 -127
Parra 10 -192

We still need someone to fall over, or to drastically improve our F/A.

If we win all our remaining surely we get a blow out score or 2 in there somewhere

I really hate that we are now in this position of having to win every game and rely on others to lose just to get a spot in the finals, especially after the way we started the season! If we could've maintained that good form for even just a few more games we wouldn't have to be friggin around with all this will we, won't we make it BS.

Apart from having to wait for other teams to crash, how hard is it to win 8 games straight in this competition! Yet this is what we have to do to have any chance of making it.

Beats most other season when after 17 rounds we are hoping multiple teams get kicked out of the comp for exceeding the cap
