With Mats retiring and the fact hes on good coin, we really need him back in first grade. Hes probably our best prop when hes on and we really can't afford to waste a 650k player in ressies

Get him Motivated,
and most importantly - hungry.

Packer ironically lost his mongrel edge the more edu-ma-cated he became, and that to me was part of his appeal.

I don't mind having a gentle, well educated, quietly spoken giant around the club - just as long as he brings the aggression and mongrel on the field.

Packer should look at the way JWH is on AND off the field as a model for his behaviours.

There's a picture of Packer and his partner at the WT annual knees-up a couple weeks ago. But then again, Matterson was there also, so that probably doesn't mean much.

Was that not the original issue? Madge wanted him lean / Packer felt he needed his bulk to play well?

A friend posted a photo on Facebook from the GF luncheon with Russell. I asked them what was going on with him and they said he said he wasn't sure what is going on, but he has a contract for next year.

I hope he can find himself over the off season as he'd be very handy next season.

If I were Madge I'd tell Packer he's in contention for FG if he works for it. If he's happy to put in and be selected on that basis then we're all good.

If not, surely there is a minimum performance standard the club can apply, and if he's not meeting it they can attribute it to non-performance.

I doubt it. Id say he's got the hint that he has to pull his finger out if he wants to play first grade again. Doubt he wants to spend the next two years in CC.

@tigerap - Farah wasnt dropped on form. If Packer was playing well he would not of been dropped in the first place.

Form definitely came into it. Everyone was saying how slow he was at dummy half and how he was running the show and stifling Brooks play from memory. That's poor form.

He was still the best option by a mile. Excuses were made for Brooks back then just like they are now when he has an ordinary game. He was dropped for ET!
