Ryan Matterson

Some are a bit ignorant of his talents.

Could be the best forward signing we've made in a while.

Apparently being let go to make way for Crichton on stupid money means he's a fringe first grader.

Pretty bloody versatile player to have on the books.

Not too excited about this. Just another signing imo. Is he one that'll improve us as a whole? I'm not convinced. Hope he proves me wrong.

I honestly dont think its Crichton pushing him out. My money is on Taupau or TPJ.

Roosters just playing smart as they know he has had some concussion issues and is risk if he cops it again. Its a very Amercian sports way of doing business

Id pay 50% more for TPJ who can actually influence a game tbh.
Dunno how we'll ever make the top 4 if other teams pinch our best players and we hire their discards(2 in a week from Easts)..has it really come to that?

Well TPJ would cost more than 50% more and money alone wouldn't even guarantee him. Newcastle are finding that out now.

Raiders tried hard to keep him but i heard he wanted to play under Bennett. From junior days, was always touted as a superstar.

He means that they've signed Crichton to play 80 minutes of right edge, which is where Matterson is best value. So in that sense Crichton has squeezed him out.

Good signing if it comes through. If so, our back row starters are settled - Rowdy on the left, Matterson on the right. MCK off the bench

if we bulk up our forward back rowdy could even do a bench spot as an impact player

I would think being behind Boyd, Radley, Liu and likely Crichton, battling weekly with Aubusson, Butcher and Collins is reason enough to want to cement a permanent FG spot elsewhere, without needing another forward to tip you over the edge.

Hes a fringe first grader because thats exactly where he plays…behind Isaac Lui,who aint gonna win the Dally M anytime soon. But Easts prefer him to Matterson
Personally I think were buying a "brand" name from a leading club for feelgood factor, and I haven't seen anything from Matterson that's gonna be an upside ...but hope Im mistaken.
Id rather the Knights strategy of buying established first graders or genuine up and commers like Pearce,Ponga,Guerra etc etc than blokes who have been tried and tested and effectively rejected.
As someone else said,we seem to be struggling to attract quality players at any price...just gotta hope our juniors come good one day

He's a big, ball playing second rower, who's good in defence and has good footwork. He is also coming from a winning culture.

He will be one of our better signings in the last 3 or 4 years.

Matterson is behind Liu because Liu is a middle forward, not an edge back rower. Liu can play prop, Matterson can't. If they were both edge back rowers then you would see Matterson starting over him.

haven't seen much of him but seems to be of the curtis sironen, shaun lane type person who played pretty good as juniors but haven't had much impact in first grade yet

freddie rates him pretty highly i'm sure

He was great for the first half of the year until he got injured.

Unlike some others on this forum you know a good footballer. This kid ticks plenty of boxes, he will be very good for us. Now for a really good middle forward and a back with size and speed to burn
