Saints now compared to 2005

Surprisingly, both clubs still have a fair amount of players who played in the 2005 preliminary final. I think the dynamic of our team has hardly changed since then, we're one of the best attacking units in the comp and we defend when we need to. Saints dynamic has changed quite dramatically, 5 years ago they probably relied on their attack more than defence, now they single handedly win games on their defence. It'll make for a very interesting game, one team who thrive off grinding wins out and frustrating the other team against another who always pose a threat to the opposition's defence and somewhat out score the other mob.

The main differences would be in 2005: 1.Greenshields 6.Barret 10.Bailey 14.Ennis
2010: 1.Boyd 6.Soward 10.Weymen 14.Fien
All of similar playing ability..

Can someone just smack that Soward guy, most overated player in the game

Wasn't Greenshields just a fill in for some matches?

the funny thing i think is that Dean Young said that this game still feels like yesterday…5 years ago boys! If this is on their mind i think its great for us.

I think that anyone who takes the Dragons lightly this year does so at their own peril. Their form under Bennett speaks for itself. Sure they choked last year but I believe this match will be totally different to their finals appearences last year and absolutely nothing like the 05 match. They are a more mature team this year. If we pull this off it will be another one of those ugly, grinding wins. I can't see a blow out score line. But I can always hope.

He played a lot of games that year when Matt Head went down injured about halfway through the season.

2005 means Jack. ''That'' game in 2005 means Jack.

Why dont the papers write about something more important or interesting. Like how Robbie Farah has 4 times better vital statistics than the Australian hooker Cameron Smith and should relieve him of that position. WT had had 4 dismal attempts of making the finals since then, why dont they write about the poor performances in between ??

Lets get fair dinkum about this game. Its a game where we need to go out and kill them. Defensively, they are simply BRILLIANT. We need to do something to break them physically and mentally. 2005 means Jack to most of the Dragons players. **12 of them they weren't even there !!.**

The team that wants to infilct more physical pain and harm to the opposition will win. 2005 talk is just CRAP.

Lets go out and smash these pretty boys into oblivion.

I think Lawrence was a bit worried about getting injured but he says he is 100% now so I think he will handle gasnier just fine.

Few factors on Lawrence. Hostile away crowd first game back, so may have been nervous. Fresh injury recovery mind games on himself. Got outplayed by Bronson simply put. Gun player.

Compare Bronson's form then Gasnier's. That's why I'm confident Lawrence will be up for the challenge.

I can't disagree with any of that.

Defense on that side of the field is not an issue with Lawrence - his tackling has improved out of sight over the last year. The Dragoons will look to catch Tuqiri out of position in defense, or run straight at Lui. One thing I know for sure is that Sheen's will be tightening the defense up on that side of the field before Saturday.

For me,we are not as strong an attacking unit as 05 ,and they are not as good.No Hodgo,Prince,Richards Fatts.
The standard this year, bar the finals is lower.
But a premiership still ranks the same.

But you guys are right, the defence of Lui,Lote and lawrence will decide whether we win or not.I think we can.
