Same old tigers

I agree. AD is never the answer for me. Last year he was needed to fill that role. I know it was only trials but Madden was able to do everything AD does and more. The only advantage AD has is a bigger body.

I hope Benji does put Madden at half. He found the grass constantly in the trials, kicks goals and goes straight and deep into the line creating the exact space you are talking about. Our attacking shape in the 20m zone looked far better than anything we have seen in the two rounds of the comp so far.
I like Douehi as a player, but I tend to agree that we are likely a better team with Jock Madden or a fit and firing Latu Fainu at 7.
I think Madden is capable of playing a similar role to what Tannah Boyd is currently doing at the Warriors, but we also need a lot more attacking flair and creativity from our 1.

If Royce's hand doesn't come away from the ball in the last 3cm, we win that game.

At 20-12 and with all the momentum in the second half, there's every chance that we go on with it.

We didn't get a whole lot of luck last night and Souths defended and scrambled extremely well. If anyone watched the Sharks and Knights efforts this weekend, we probably put 40 on them too.

Ironically, we've come up against two sides whose desperate scramble has been en pointe the last two weeks and it's lead to a frustrating loss last night, compounded by the key injuries. We could've put 60 on the Cows last week...

We're still learning how to win close football games, clearly.

It's the frustration that is biting this morning, more so than the overall critique of the side.

People making broad-brush, sweeping statements about how and why this team will never be successful because of a close loss against a side that most have in the 8 and had beating us comfortably prior to last nights' game, are comical to listen to.

You don't go from 3 wooden spoons to 13th to Top Four in an offseason. We're going to lose games. Plenty of them.

Be disappointed, but last night's performance is not indicative of ANYTHING related to our likelihood of future success.

We're a developing, young side.

Round 3 and the season is over, Damn injuries have got us good.

It was a good run to even get to Week 3 this season … they are headed in the right direction at least ..it’s the first time in about 6 years that the season hasn’t been over before it started ..

If Luai is out 6 weeks and AD for 3-4 our season goes on life support as I feel we don’t have the back up , Madden is ok and a run of games could improve him week by week but Latu is a major concern , he could be just made of glass , time will tell but gee we are in a spot now

And Taylan being out too is a major loss…I mean if we think back to last season…. They were going no where until he came into the team late in the season and provided quite an attacking boost , and created some anxiety in the minds of the opposition backs

Our defensive physicality and strong yardage carries were very impressive, but very disappointed with our lack of attacking structure, lack of creativity from our spine, lack of quality on the 5th tackle and lack of desperation to defend and get numbers in the frame from Souths attacking kicks.
The one on one missed tackles are easily fixed as Luai does not normally miss many one on one tackles and I doubt Makasini will either once he gets more NRL experience.
The lack of creativity and polish from our spine is a concern as it was evident for much of last season and it looked much better against the Cowboys last week, only to be bog average again last night.

There was alot to like about our performance against Souths.

We weren’t perfect but far from the same old Wests Tigers of old.

We dominated nearly most stats, our forwards stepped up.

We were down 12-0 after 8mins and Souths had other chances but we dug deep and fought our way back to be in a position to win the game.

The next 2 tries they scored were off kicks, one off a miss kick.

Previous season we would’ve been thumped but we kept digging and fighting.

We scored in the 5min period now 2 games in a row as well.

Yes that was a game we should’ve won but the resolve, fight and other performances across the park were different.

It’s only round 2 and we will be tested badly next few weeks without our 1st choice halves and centers.

Let’s hope the team fights and keeps to the plan as early signs are more positive than negative.

Depth is everything. We are always a couple of injuries away from disaster. Same round last year we had a good win against the Dolphins and we were all up.
Not much difference in our start this year to last other than the bad injuries and like last year our options are limited.

Notwithstanding our insipid red zone attack, we lost because of Jack Wighton’s defence and Gray’s attack. Things changed dramatically when the latter was off. In the end we lost an arm wrestle. We were close to scoring a few times at the death, just couldn’t get there. We’ve all seen this movie before.

Losing key players happens to all clubs. Unfortunately we have 3 out (4 if we include Latu) at the same time.

However.

Good teams find ways to win some games while players are out.

Focus on defence & win through the middle. Kick well. Get good yards from your back 3.

We are lucky Madden came onboard- he gives a solid kicking game.

The focus on winning isn't on 6 + 7 these next few weeks. It's on May, Fainu, Twal, Pole, Hunt, KPP & Koroisau winning through the middle. Dominate possession. Kick to the corners.

I'm interested to see how our key forwards step up.
