Same sex marriage debate...

It would probably be best if all NO thinking senators abstain from voting on the issue so as not to go against the wishes of their states. Naturally, all those that think differently than their respective electorates, whether yes or no, should also abstain.

This to me is the only truly fair approach for both the voters and their representatives.

God Bill Shorten is despicable little runt. The way he is carrying on is ridiculous.
Australia is all about a fair go. The result doesnt surprise really but for this weasle to take credit is wrong. He had very little to do with it.

how's your blood pressure? ruok

Haha are you going to follow me around to every thread to add your two cents to every post I make? Not that I'm worried, as you are one of the more dense posters on this site, just curious is all.

No need to be insulting. I merely asked if you were o.k.

Not touchy, what i said is fact. I do not like those who take credit for the actions of others. This whole thing was a waste of time and money caused in part by Bill yet he is takng credit for the result.
The majority were always going to vote yes. He wrote the speech he gave today months ago and just sat there waiting for his "moment". The fact is, he is on record stating that the decision should not be left to 150 parliamentarians to decide, it required a plebiscite. The guy is a hypocrite of the highest order.

good luck to them. but mark my words this will turn ugly, these people will want to change the world. wish i could put this in a time capsule, god help us all.

The lunatic left of course.

I was always told to be careful for what you wish. Let's see how this turns out. Not very good I will bet.

Safe schools, safe spaces, Christians, butchers, bakers and candlestick makers, off to court.

This was all about tolerance. The only problem is that the people calling for tolerance have no tolerance for anybody that disagrees with them.

I grew tired of this debate weeks ago, and as a result became somewhat apathetic to the outcome. However reading some of these comments has reminded me of why i voted yes.

Usually they are just intolerant of the other sides intolerance.

same here. i wasn't even planning to vote but i did just to cancel my mate (Greg) vote out. I have a beer with him on Friday's. He's always banging on about Trump, who is a convicted Rapist and Felon and Yes voters. I told him if he wasn't going back to talking about footy i'd vote Yes to cancel out his vote. Can't wait to go for a beer with Greg this Friday. Should be fun.

Have you only just woken up Col? 11 out of 17 electorates that voted no were ALP electorates. It's not a left vs right issue. Most LNP electorates voted Yes.

Warringah 75% in favour. What's it going to be Tony? Listen to the people you represent or do your personal beliefs come first?

On that note, the seats that voted no overwhelmingly are labour heartland but probably have many socially conservative people living there. Interesting times ahead. Might be a masterstroke from Turnbull, who has turned himself into a "Master bator" with his ineffective leadership.

If it gets to a vote in parliament, these labour members will have to vote yes, surely. I hope people don't care enough about the issue to vote out an incumbent on the basis of a single issue, but this is the risk when you ask the people to do the politician's job.

Tony must be held to his promise of voting with his electorate on the referendum result. He promised that he would vote "yes" if his electorate would vote yes.

Especially when you remind him that three out of four of your locals are of the same thinking.
