Scott Fulton sacked

Shame about Alan Thompson as he is highly regarded in the Welfare space. Hoping this area of the football club does not go backwards as its presence cannot be underestimated.
I would assume the gear steward is Vincent Marando who has been around for ages. If so, are they bringing in Bryce Gibbs for that role 🙂
New gear steward Tim Simona bwahahahaaaaaaaa hahahaaaaaaaaaaa

From the Australian:

Fulton has spoken exclusively to this masthead about the decision after he received a phone call from the club’s chief executive Shane Richardson on Tuesday morning to say his services were no longer required.

“It’s disappointing because I had such high hopes for the Wests Tigers and the direction we were heading in with recruitment,” Fulton said.

“But I really enjoyed my time under the previous management and what we were able to achieve in a short period.

“These things happen in rugby league and we’ll move on and look for the next opportunity.

I wish the club all the best.”
You’re not supposed to enjoy winning a wooden spoon, but somehow our previous management did! 🤡

Speaking of offers.

Looks like Richo made Fulton an offer he couldn't refuse, left the building without a wimper and nothing from his very own Godfather, so far at least.

I think speaking out of turn in the media was just usual business under Lee and Pascoe. Richo however is a different proposition, people will think twice before rubbishing him in the media as he can give just as good as he gets and is held in high regard in the League world.
Seems the tide is finally turning against us it won't happen over night but i don't have many doubts that it will happen now.

He can really screw over journos as well . Has real connections in the game , and can basically black list anyone . Which doesn’t sound like much , but if your job is about getting scoops and generating news and you can’t . Then you’re not long for it I reckon.

Or is it the fact Richo has built up so much respect within the rugby league world, that nobody dares to question his decisions ?
Compare that to Pascoe who just could not build respect, he could have made the same decisions as Richo and been heavily criticised.
At the end of the day, the recent on field results meant we needed someone of Richo’s status to have outsiders, media and our own fans take the club seriously again,
Spot on “ Sid” !

It's hard without the clout. Can't think of anyone except Richardson with as much clout.........few can get away with what he can with the media, managers and others. Rarely are people of his calibre available.

So he is ideal for our club.

And probably just as well Benji and Morris were already appointed by the previous management. I'm speculating obviously, but perhaps Richo was keen to work with these rookie coaches, guys without an overbearing personality so he can curry most of his initiatives and effect virtually a clean slate in football operations.........even though given the opportunity he may not have appointed them himself.

Who knows, but perhaps the reviewers may have questioned the due diligence, or rather lack of in Benji's appointment but it's unlikely that his selection will be rescinded.

Too risky a selection appointing benji but obviously the correct one given the flow of positive announcements since his promotion.

Perhaps with a Hasler or Flanagan Richo might not have chosen to come on board.

So the stars aligned so to speak.

With a salary cap in good shape and good financials he can concentrate on football operations from the get go.

IMO its highlights so much how bad our administration was and really it was a relatively easy fix. Sack the board get someone in who knows what the hell he's doing. Didnt have to be Richo could have been anyone who has half an idea, its really quite frustrating because this all could have been fixed years ago.

The times they are a changin - a positive article on WT in the telecrap 9 albeit by some unknown reporter :

New Wests Tigers boss Shane Richardson driving the circus out of Concord

For years, Wests Tigers fans have watched the club stuck in an endless cycle of gaffes.

PAMELA WHALEY reveals how commonsense has come to Tiger Town.

Pamela WhaleyPamela Whaley

Wests Tigers were the butt of the joke for a long time before it stopped being funny.

For years, and especially in the past few, there’s been a laundry list of random and baffling stories coming out of the Concord club.

At times it felt like a weekly circus event.

The gaffes and bad performances all made for perfect newspaper fodder, premium meme content for social media pages and water cooler chitchat to torture a local Tigers fan.

But for the good people involved in the club, and the legions of passionate supporters, it grew painful.

Every new year brought with it a new sense of hope to grasp on to, in the form of a new coach, a succession plan, change of staff, a centre of excellence or some classic PR spin about bringing the good old days of 2005 back.

None of it held much weight, and soon, the disappointments mounted, hopes were smashed and although everything was changing the cycle was on a sickening repeat.

That it got so bad fans stepped in is quite astonishing.

More than 2000 supporters signed a petition for an external review into the club, which resulted in a massive clean out from CEO to chairman, and members of the board.

While at the time it was another chapter in the seemingly endless drama, it proved there’s a solid supporter base of people who don’t care about personalities or about short-term pain. They care about the club and long-lasting, meaningful change.

And now they’re getting it with Shane Richardson at the top.

The axing of recruitment boss Scott Fulton on Tuesday, as well as Alan Thompson, head of wellbeing and education and a gear steward, marked the start but not the end of rapid and dramatic renovations at the Wests Tigers.

Experienced NRL administrator and interim chief executive Richardson made the call on Tuesday morning and this masthead broke the news not long afterwards.

There was little fuss, no leaks beforehand, and both parties spoke on the record to this masthead after the fact, with Richardson flagging more changes within the next 30 to 40 days leading into the NRL trials.

It’s never nice for hard working people to lose their jobs, but all of this somehow made sense.

No clowns, no parade, no jokes.

The axing of Fulton appears to be the kind of common sense decision based in strong leadership that the Tigers have been crying out for.

Fulton, who was hired at the club behind head coach Benji Marshall’s back last year, became somewhat of an elephant in the room in the football department.

Despite Richardson’s insistence that his exit was not about a clash of personalities, rather there being no need for a recruitment boss under his governance, the net result is what’s best for the club as a whole.

Weirdly, this one decision has been a ray of hope to a fan base that are so reluctant to believe in change, but will, because that’s what good supporters do.

In the coming days Melbourne centre Justin Olam is expected to be announced as the club’s newest signing - another reason for cautious fans to hold onto hope.

Whatever 2024 brings for the Tigers on the field, it feels like something has shifted. There’s a new level of respect for the way the club goes about their business.

The bar may be in hell but it’s finally being cleared.
My new favourite journo 😁

That was squarely on Pascoe who was given more than enough time to build some credibility - but eroded any respect he had with every bone-headed decision combined with his pathological co-dependency on the equally incompetent sponsor/Chairman!

its really quite frustrating because this all could have been fixed years ago Well said Coastie
Quite a few people have been calling for their removal for a number of years now
Memberships have declined... Many have had a gutful of seeing their hard earned pissed up against the wall.
Even if nothing happened due to dumb and dumbers. removal it'd be a far sight better than it was previously... But we've all already seen big positive strides forward

Replying to Chipoff the old block as the forum replies suck.

Unsure why Alan Thompson was let go. But Honestly, we haven't done well last year in this space at all.

Yes Welfare matter and MINDSET matters.
So many games I have seen us fold. Contrast that with the dogs, yes they came 15th or something but most games they fought (at least in 2022 when I saw a few games).

A huge part of us getting the spoon is mindset. 16th, 15th and 14th IMHO was for our taking this year and we did not take it.
Welfare and Mindset are important spaces. Honestly happy for a cleanout and Souths does welfare well.

With respect, all Richo’s done is sack a heap of people so far. I know you can draw a parallel between Richo’s appointment and Luai’s signing but in truth it may well have happened anyway. I’m a fan of Richo and am really glad he’s been put in the role but I’ll reserve judgement on his success or otherwise until after half a season or so at least.
Hopefully he extends the 6 months so we can get a better picture on how he impacts the club.

Richo brought instant credibility in one press conference then closed a deal with a triple premiership winning playmaker.

His predecessor did FA.

Richo said it’s not about what he says but what he does.
What he’s done is sack a few people with the outcome still to be seen. Anyone can sack people, doesn’t make them the messiah. Like I said in my original post, I’m glad he’s hear and he’s done it all before so I’m confident he can make positive changes but 6 months ain’t going to be enough and I think there’s plenty of water to go under the bridge before we really judge him but that’s just my opinion.
