Shannon Gallant signs with NQ Cowboys

I like the Mighty Mouse, but our backs for next year are starting to mount up. Don't get me wrong, it's good for the tigers to have alot of good players fighting for spots, but we need a good prop to bolster our pack.

Do we sign Gallant and risk not getting a prop?????

Unbeknown to the Sheens, this same man several weeks ago told Gallant not to go to Wests Tigers training again as they were not interested in him. Gallant was told to return to WT training by Sheens.

I want you to explain/prove so much of what you've written, but I'll settle on this one bit-

Explain to me how, if Sheens had to ring Shannon Gallant up & get him to come to training after Gallant was told not to turn up by "Mystery Inc", this turn of events did not occur-

1\. Sheens asks Gallant why he doesn't show up.
2\. Gallant doesn't tell Sheens that "Mystery Inc" told him not to bother.
3\. Sheens confronts "Mystery Inc" about this.
4\. "Mystery Inc" isn't reprimanded/sacked on the spot.

Are you seriously telling me that Sheens just asked Gallant to politely show up at the next training session with no questions asked as to why he wasn't at the session in question?

If Might mouse is offerd a contract i rekon he will get a better offer somewhere else which is pretty sad being a junior & all
But we have signed Brown/Tauamata/Moltzon/Lazarus that will all be on bigger contracts than what Gallant could demand
& i just can't see him getting picked at fulback in front of the players mentioned even though he would be my prefered option.
I hope im wrong & i hope we can sign him & he stays a tiger for life but i can't see it happening.

Next seasons fullback will be Lazarus.

That is VERY evident.

I feel sorry for MM…he's played really well in the handful of games he's played over the past two seasons.

It's pretty much common knowledge though that Tim does not want a 'conventional fullback' (i.e. a support player).

He wants a ballplayer back there.

MM isn't in his long term plans.

What sort of fullback is Billy Slater?…ballpayer or support player?...MM should be given the job at FB....fullstop

Not having a go at you BB, but I have a question for you. You have said throughout this thread that Sheens wants Gallant on board for 2010 and that this is a fact. Ok, fair enough, but fact according to whom?

Who is your source regarding this information if you would care to enlighten the rest of us? Do you know Sheens personally and he has told you this? Or do you know someone else in an official capacity at the Wests Tigers who drops this information to you? Players, coaching staff, admin people?

How is it evident Lazarus will be fullback? He's never played a first grade game, has been out injured for 2 years and when he came back from injury last year he was named on the bench for our second string team. I'd go as far to say that no way in hell will Lazarus even be considered for the role. He MAY come into calculations mid year after he's regained some confidence, but until then dont even bother putting him in your plans. It takes a long time to overcome one knee reconstruction let alone two, and yes, ive had two reconstructions, so i know from experience we have to be patient with the kid.

Hit the nail on the head there Sirro. Lazarus has talent but he's been out of action for too long. As Smeg mentioned earlier, he won't walk straight into FG. He's going to need quite a few matches under his belt to get his confidence up, and his form up to make it into FG.

Hard to argue with that…...Lazarus may well find himself back in the halves where he belongs.....

I wont expose my Gigs. **I dont know the Fonz personally**. I know a number of people directly involved with the 1st grade team.
Sheens wants Gallant under him in 2010\. What is not clear is at what level. I feel that they are trying to get him signed at the lowest level possible. (ie State Cup contract). The Gallant camp are obviously after a decent NRL deal. Not anything massive, just market value.

Lazarus = no games for two seasons…he just got a brand new two year contract for decent $.

MightyMouse = is on one of the smallest contracts in the NRL and hasn't been even offered that craphouse deal again for next season.

You don't need to eb Einstein mate to work out which bloke is wanted and which one is not.

Side note: I saw Lazarus in one of the boxes a few weeks back and he's very frustrated. Most of the young guys he was 'ahead' of are now in firsts. He's also very confident he'll add something to the team in 2010.

Side note 2 : Sheens has big, big wraps on him.

Wait and see what happens................

Your point is based on a showdown between Gallant and Lazarus, they are not the only two candidates. I have no doubt at all Lazarus will not start the year in first grade, if he makes it there late in 2010 he would have done a great job. We will wait and see what happens.

Totally agree. Unless circumstances change I doubt either one of them will start the year at fullback. Finishing the season off strongly will keep Gallant in the sights of Sheens though - which is testimony to Shannon for persevering during the year to get back to the top of the Sheens team sheet.

Both players are talents that should not be lost to the joint venture. One is proven at the top level but still lacks the experience, but offers the spark the team requires. The other is a up an comer with huge wraps, who is untested at the top level and has a huge future in the game whether that be at the back or in the halves.

This is why the signing of Mitch Brown still confuses me considering the talent still available in the lower grades.

Like many others I find it strange that M Mouse hasnt been offered a contract and that no other club has thrown some dollars his way. Iam not sure how many games he has played in the top grade, but bar one or two he has been right up their close to our best. I think their is a perception from the people who count that he is to small and isnt a ball player. Just a thought but lets leave the ball playing to Benji Tim M and Farah and let the mouse play his game based on blistering speed and the ability to sniff out opportunities up the middle. The old saying you cant coach speed and lets face it Beau Ryan could not run out of sight on a dark night and Tnt while very powerfull is no speed machine, so its nice to have some speed to go with Lawerence,Moltzen and Marshall

What you say is 100% true about Gallant. On his size he would have to be as big if not bigger than Matt Bowen and Preston Im sure there are more, the thing is there is a place in our game now for the smaller built NRL player and from what I have seen from the mouse he has the right stuff! Also speed he has thats for sure.

after his last 2 games we have 2 sign him up he has pace, backs up and barks orders we need him at fulback if we are to challenge nxt yr

Im sure most did apart from the 1eyed wests fans who were blind with love. :unamused:

But i admit he has been playing well and if he plays like that week in week out there no choice they have to sign him.

Yep - based on his first couple of performances he wasn't up to it plus his size will always work against him.

I like the guy and want him to suceed however its not a done deal yet.

they will sign him if he keeps playing this well. no one can say he isn't getting his chance now

Beyond having somebody allegedly talking him down, I don't see the injustice.

He has played exceptionally in recent games, I've been very happy to see us have a genuine fullback playing fullback and I'd be happy to see him given the gig fulltime because I think he will do some damage.

But in a competitive field where wages and contracts are - or supposed to be - based on performance, surely this is typical.
