Far from being worried about the Jarryd Hayne threat, Wests Tigers coach Tim Sheens has placed the pressure on the brilliant Parramatta fullback to live up to the hype in Friday night's blockbuster at the SFS.
A somewhat terse Sheens was keen to play down the impact Hayne may have on the match, even suggesting the Eels match-winner was still far from his best despite single-handedly destroying Manly last weekend.
The Tigers mentor believes the expectation to perform could weigh heavily on the Dally M winner.
"The hype around Jarryd is just more pressure on Jarryd," he said.
"I'm not worried about that. That's pressure on him, not us."
"I noticed earlier in the year he was saying that…the pressure (is on) to deliver what he delivered last year."
Asked if Hayne was back to his best after blitzing Manly, Sheens responded: "I wouldn’t say that. He had a very good second half of football."
So he still has a way to go before hitting top form?
"I'm not saying that. I'm not going to fire anything at Jarryd. I'm just saying he played a good second half of football," Sheens straight-batted.
He was then asked the best way to blunt Hayne's impact on a game.
"Rule him out," came the blunt reply.
He quickly added: "Parramatta aren’t just about Jarryd Hayne; we're not just focusing on one player."
"They're a pretty good side"
But there is no doubt Hayne's name has been mentioned plenty of times as the Tigers pored over the game plan for Friday night.
One tactic the joint venture club insists it won’t be adopting to halt Hayne's brilliance is the long, raking kick over the deadball line.
The ploy worked for St George Illawarra in round one but the Tigers plan to increase – not decrease – the No 1's workload.
"I think that would give Haynesy a bit of a break," skipper Robbie Farah said of the deadball tactic.
"We'll try and make him work hard."
"I don’t know if I've got the answer (to stopping him) but I guess you've got to try and limited his opportunities."
"He's one of those players that's going to pop up all over the park; at first receiver, at dummy half at the end of a shift."
"We've got to be on our game across the park."
Sheens was unhappy with his side's capitulation in the heat against the Roosters in round two, especially in conceding 36 unanswered points after leading 12-0 early.
But he was keen to put Parramatta's recent run in perspective.
"Their form was very scratchy until the second half (against Manly)," Sheens said.
"They’ve played a good half of football but they were 20-0 down and lost their first game and lost their trial."
"They found their form on the back of some good play and a good call (on a forward pass) but that's all you need sometimes - just one good half of footy and couple of things go your way and that can spark you."
"They are a premiership hotshot, they are one of the favourite sides, they are a big side."
"We've got a tough game in front of us. If we control the discipline with the penalty count and control the football; we can be in the game."
The Eels boast a remarkable record against the Tigers, winning nine of the last 10 encounters between the clubs since 2005.
