Sheens indicates Moltzen to play FB 2010

Molztens best position is 5/8.

But out of halfback and fullback, you'd have to say he's a better half. However, i can see him excelling at fullback also. He lets himself down on kick returns, support play and sometimes is caught out positionally, but all can be fixed. His positional play this year while not perfect was much much better than it was last year, and that will continue to improve. His kick returns will get better as he gets bigger and more confident in his own body. He'll be a decent size eventually, and could be a handful if he maintains his pace.

I would prefer him in the halves, but if he is at fullback, its not the end of the world.

It"s easy to understand why people see Moltzen as a halfback. His inclusion in that position coincided with our 6 game winning streak. He fitted in seamlessly and the whole team just clicked as if he was the last piece in the jigsaw puzzle. I remember his first few games at fullback. He let a lot of bombs bounce, he let in a few tries and didn't seem very penetrating with his kick returns. All these aspects of his game have been remedied, to a degree, and I recon he is still on the improve. As for Lui ,a couple of fg games is not enough for me to pass judgment so the juries still out. However he did have a catastrophic missed tackle against Hain which led to a try. He does have a lot of potential though.

rightly said, and we should probably accept that he will be there.

As long as he works on his kick returns (do what boyd did v parra on fri night, just charge hard at the line)
and positional play
and we have a decent halfback.. no reason why he can't be a fullback.

just wish sheens would let him & us fan's know 100% so they can work on it.. instead of a bit here and a bit there.

Everyone forgets about Taumata,he is coming for 2 years at least,he is an exceptional half.

I'm excited about Taumata too… but exceptional may be streching it a bit far...half a dozen first grade games he showed a lot of pace and potential...

Sheens loves a back on the bench....14, Taumata I'd like to see at the begining of the season....him coming on at the back end of each half.......can't wait....

Friday nights game against the dogs really highlighted to me that Moltzen will struggle at fullback - his kick returns are limp and he is too relaxed when pressured against his own line. He shows no real urgency or commitment to get out of the in-goal and to me, he is just not ballsey enough in that position. I am a big fan of his but he would serve much better in the halves..
Boy, I really don't want to see 15 rounds with Moltzen at fullback and us losing games, then sheens putting him at 7 and we start winning 6 in a row…..dejarvu :deadhorse:

Gee there are some tough judges of Moltzen at FB. My take is that Moltzen will definitely be an exceptional first grader, and Lui will most probably be a very good first grader. They both need to be in the run on side towards the end of next season. Moltzen has the attributes needed for FB, and with his dedication I am sure he can develop into a very reliable and dangerous number 1.

Not sure where Lazarus fits in, but gee it is exciting.

I really think that sheens coaches his fullbacks to not run straight and hard back from kick returns but to simply get the ball to the middle of the park.
It's also a lot easier to just pass the ball off to the winger when you've got a busted shoulder or elbow. I'll hold judgement on Moltzen at fullback until next season when he's had a full off-season in the position.

Moltzen was playing injured I think. Probably one of the reasons he didn't look as dynamic as previous games.

For a bloke who has coached champion teams with fantastic fullbacks I just don't see why sheens is so dead certain that Moltzen is a great player in that position.

Even blind freddy can see that he isn't comfortable or confident there.

well the first thing i would tell him , is when you get the ball off a kick . pin your ears back son and run it back hard ….not prop and run around then pop it to your winger who has four defenders ready to pounce .....thats my critisism of him ....

Your all forgetting that Benji will wear number 6 but he is playing halfback… so whoever finds themselves in 7 will be playing 5/8 not halfback...

So I think Lui will grow into that position & should be allowed to because he is a natural 5/8 by the looks of him & you don't get many natural 5/8s these days...

I happy enough with Moltz @ fullback as long as he is fit & in the team really... he can always come up & chime into the attack...

Taumata will be the 14 if he is in the 17... I rekon he'll need to prove himself KG style in the SC...

Lui is a natural 5/8 and has been playing there all this year in the NYC. Was speaking to the father of one of the Canterbury NYC players. He said that he thought Lui was a fantastic player and he really carved Canterbury up. I pointed out that he also scored 2 tries. He said " Yes and he set up about 3 more as well"

Lui looks good for next year.
