Save ourselves a heap of money and pain

Yep but if he said that and isn't backing it up with the right action it shows absolutely no integrity.

This should be a massive red flag (as if there aren't heaps anyway) that he should be sacked immediately. If he said this publicly they shouldn't even consider paying him out.

No idea how he first got involved with Wests

Denny Burgess is a singer/bass player from successful 60s bands that include The Throb, Masters Apprentices, and The Whispers. In the 70s and early 80s, Denny spent 11 years living in London, where he performed with a variety of UK groups such as Ginger and the George Hatcher Band.
>
After returning to Australia, Denny and his drummer brother Colin Burgess (AC/DC, Masters Apprentices), played together for some years in His Majesty, Blackboard Jungle and Good Time Charlie. In 2001 a documentary about the 2 brothers’ lives in music, entitled The Comeback Kings, was made by Carson Arts Management, and narrated by James Valentine. Denny was also signed to Warner Chappell Music as a songwriter. These days, the Burgess brothers still perform occasionally with their band BurgessBurgess.
>
Previously on the National Board of the Music Managers Forum (MMF), Denny is currently Chairman of the Australian Songwriters Association (ASA), Vice Chairman and honorary Treasurer of the Association of Artists Managers (AAM), and Chairman of the Australian Songwriters Official National Group (ASONG). He now heads Denny Burgess Management and Regal Records, an independent label that explored the South-East Asian market in the 90’s and these days releases young original bands. Denny is also an active member of both the Association of Independent Record Labels (AIR), and music industry benevolent group Support Act Limited (SAL). He also has sporting and corporate interests as a Director of Wests Tigers Rugby League Club, Wests Ashfield Leagues, and Western Suburbs District Rugby League Football Club. In addition, Denny is on the Board of Ronald McDonald House Charities.
>
The latest acquisition of Burgess Ventures is Hotsource.com.au, the Australian internet site for all things music! Denny committed to making it the most useful and active place for the general Australian music community to interact.
>
As owner and Managing Director of A Red Letter Day (Event Management), Denny enjoys the variety and excitement of the many shows run by this company. He draws from his 30 years experience in showbusiness and entertainment, and his passion for 'a superb show', to provide professional excellence at the best price for A Red Letter Day clientele.

Thanks for the info mate. How are boards put together? I would've thought that primarily it would be made up of people who have past history with the club involved, he seems like a choice right out of left field.

This guy has been part of the Magpies like forever…used to see him and family at every Magpie game all the time ....will say is a very passionate Magpie has always had a connection to the club going back many years.

Probably just a very passionate supporter/volunteer much like dawn fraser

Club members nominate for election to the board, you get enough votes your whistlin dixie

I think they might have waited until Manly's season was over in order to start formal discussions with Matt Parish.

Plus

More time to nut out a deal with Sheens/Warriors that is cost effective to all parties.

I think Sheens will be moved on within the next 5 days.

I just worry that what little cash we have is going to be used to dislodge Sheens. So who ever the new bloke is, he is going to start off with a empty war chest. Also will we be forced to keep all the old support staff due to money constraints.

If we cant give a new coach a fighting chance to succeed we might be better off keeping Sheens for at least a year although I think Sheens is now a dead duck

I think we have the troops in the lower grades to be competitive next year, we just need a coach who is prepared to drop underperforming players and try new kids in the right positions. If Sheens truly cares for this club he will step down.

i remember the article last year about this promise.
pretty sure it had quotes from sheens as well.

probably on here somewhere.

Sheens staying with Tigers

Tim Sheens will remain at the helm of Wests Tigers until the end of 2011 after extending his contract with the NRL club for a further 12 months.

Sheens, who has coached for 595 first grade matches and won four premierships since debuting with Penrith in 1984, says he will quit if success does not come in the next two seasons.

"I asked for a year, not any longer than that, to work with this group," he said after Friday night's 23-12 win over Parramatta at Sydney Football Stadium.

"If I can't get it to happen then I won't be here and I'd stand down myself on that basis."

Sheens, 59, says the move will remove speculation about the job, which had been linked to Cronulla coach Ricky Stuart.

"We're not thinking this year about who's going to be coaching and the speculation, which this season doesn't need," he said.

Sheens says the deal had been done on Friday afternoon over coffee with Tigers chief executive Stephen Humphreys.

Humphreys agreed Sheens' request for only a 12-month extension meant he has squarely put the pressure on himself to succeed.

"I read a bit into that," Humphreys said.

"Tim understands better than anyone that this is a results-orientated business.

"We know we need to take that next step and I think he is challenging himself somewhat in that."

Tigers captain Robbie Farah also welcomed the signing, which comes on top of those of Benji Marshall, Keith Galloway and Robert Lui this year.

"Tim's a coach that all of us players respect and he's a reason why a lot of us have re-signed," Farah said.

"It gives the club great stability."

If my memory serves me correctly (it was a long time ago) he put together, and actually performed it live at campbelltown, a song called Glory Boys, Magpie Boys… He used to sit in the stand along with all the other season ticket holders and then one week we saw him out on the field singing...

How ironic that after the way the club dealt with it's verbal agreements on moltzen (and a few others by the sound of things) they now expect sheens to stick to his word.
