Another interview about Lote sometime this arvo. Hopefully he sheds some light on front runners for 1 and 7\. I don't know how but would be good if someone emailed 2sm and asks them to put it to sheens. Mainly who is the front runner for 7.

i read in one of the many lote articles today that sheens wants to decide on moltzens best position for his career this eyar, he also said its looking like fullback.

will start on wing
take time to learn our plays and how we talk
jason cayless is battling to start the season
20s graduates will add to depth
andrew fafita will be good as a interchange player and a replacement
lote may take a week or two before he plays when he gets here
won't play in the reserves
wing, centre or fulback
depth for halves includes lui, benji, moltz, arana and lazarus
fulton played hooker at training, and played well. him and fitzhenry together cover what halatau covered last season

Summary:

- Tui wont start the season
- Cayless still "iffy"
- Tuqiri WONT play reserve grade - straight into FG
- Moltz most likely to start at 1, possibly move to 7 once Tui is back and Tuqiri moves to Fullback (thats an "IF")
- rates Ayshford highly
- "depth in halves: Marshall, Lui and Moltzen. Arana in the background"
- Fulton to "replace Halatau" as the dynamic player

going off that, i'd say Round 1 will be:

1\. Moltzen
6\. Marshall
7\. Lui
14\. Fulton

Boo….

Start the year with your 7 and 6 you hope to play the whole year for once Sheens......... :brick:

Fulton over Taumata and Fitzhenry that's interesting.......

That shouldnt be hard to cover 😕

I'm with Geo, start Moltzen at 7 and select a fullback from the lower grades rather then reshuffle until Tuqiri plays for us.

I love how Tunks when asked who will be in the grand final , said it will be a Wests Tigers vs South Grand final going to extra time … That is scary as that's how I see it going , so much I put $60 @ 101 / 1... So I am really hoping it comes true, hence my signature. 😛ray:

Moltzen was in the exact same position as Lui at the start of last season. He showed promise in the juniors and got a few games in FG and went into the off-season with questions ahead. He enters into this season as one of out top 5 players. Could Lui improve like Moltzen did? He certainly has the potential.

They are extremely happy with The way Lui has been training in the off season.
I too would love to see Moltz at 7 all season., but with TnT & Lote not there , I believe Sheens had the best backline choosen for Rd 1.
Ayshford & Lawerence to kick butt in the centres, this is very exciting the way it's all taking shape…Wests Tigers into 12s now to win the Premeirship

Jeez I hope Taniela heals up.

Imagine a backline of
Moltzen
Tuqiri
Ayshford
Lawrence
Tuiaki
Marshall
Lui

Well up there with the best in game.

There is no doubts about Lui's talents. His size and defence is the issue IMO. I saw him last week and he has bulked up in muscle but has not grown in height. I fear that his natural size he will continually make him a target and was found out when playing first grade last year.
This is the difference. Moltzen wasn't found out for his weaknesses, where as Lui was, and was exploited for it.
His attacking skills can be devastating at times, tends to hold the ball for too long IMO to suit WT type of football to go alongside Marshall who also holds the ball for extended periods at times. 2 players in the halves with this attribute don't work well together IMO.
Having to "hide" players in defence is also a major concern for me at NRL level. Sheens/Royce stated something along these lines not so long ago "if a player can't tackle, they won't be playing"..

Well the Tigers have worked harder on Defence in the off-season so hopefully Lui has picked up a lot in this regard.

Great start to the season ….. Lui at 1/2 i must say Coach 0&4 never lets you down i don,t care how this guy trains the one defining aspect is he can,t TACKLE .A season of great potential butched in the first quarter of the season. So in reality we have 2 halves that can,t tackle and will have to be covered

don't forget taumata on the bench as utility too! Best backline in the game if lui can play to his potential.

Remember last year Sheens said he would be doing more of the defence with Simmons on the offense?
We had our best defensive season ever, conceding only
83 tries (483 pts) compared to
98, 97 & 98 tries (560 pts, 561 & 565) the prior 3 years '08 '07 & '06

That's right. They reckon they've worked harder on defence this off-season compared to the last off-season too. Hopefully it shows on the field again.

Yeah but how did we start the season…..Sheensy influence musta kicked in about Round 9...LOL

At one stage we where conceeding 26ppg far worse than Roycies time...

Funny how when the Defence got in order that went down to 13ppg and we won 8 from 11 or someting like that...
