Without a lockdown food shortages will get worse and some peoples health will get worse whether they have covid or not.

Yeah, it is much easier for those such as myself that are only intolerant to foods that we don't like.

Exactly FG,
But the emphasis that must be made here is a lockdown, and i can not think of any other way of improving the vital fresh food supply.

The proof is that we never felt or did see this much concern for food supply when we were in the last long lockdown of four months.

But i fear that the govt. will only act at the last minute when the situation becomes unbearable.

Problem is it’s too late to lockdown and recover the situation. It’ll be a patchy 2-3 weeks for food and the government will just ride it out

We all hope that you are correct Killa and we return to normal supply after 2-3 weeks, but when we all know that the govt. has policies for certain things where the risk management is to have that no risk is acceptable with zero tolerence, i would of thaught that during a pandemic the food supply would have been in this category. that no risk or minimal risk is acceptable. This does not seem to be a minimal risk.

Agree Chika, any restrictions on transport and people accessing their workplace will worsen the situation. It’s time to open up the country and get people back to work in a safe way.

Buy a different brand
Support your local grocery store, go to an Indian, Asian, Lebanese shop and you're guaranteed to find something that you're looking for

Before Christmas I'd never seen anything like it. Some shelves in Woolies were about 5% full. Very concerning

Sadly we are seeing the failure in NSW once again now affecting most of the country and once more the poor and vulnerable are paying for it. Many unable to defer to different options because the cheapest products that they rely upon week to week are not available to them.

It us not too bad for those with the means to use work around arrangements or even fly a barramundi in from Humpty Do and parade it on social media.

The situation we are in today was the obvious outcome if changes were not made back in early December.

This opening up is pretty incompetent isn't it. Their risk management is poor. They should have had a plan for a highly contagious strain. They should play theoretical scenarios and how to cater for it. If' I'm being honest I would've stuffed it up as well but then again I didn't put myself into that situation.

Just did the weekly shop. No toilet paper but it wasn't any worse than what it's been for a month or so.

Someone mentioned different grocery stores. I typically go to an Asian grocery store and that is always well stocked. I don't think they have toilet paper though.

The announcement from the govt. this morning was totally surprising and unexpected for me.

They announced that the Isolation and close contact rules have now been relaxed. (meaning scraped)

What it means is that, if you are covid positive but are asymptomatic then you are now free to travel and work.

It was not long ago that if a person was caught breaking these rules then that person would have been severely shamed and even would have been regarded as a criminal.

Many countries have gone back into lockdown but our govt. is insisting with saying will not go back into lockdown at all costs.

Describe it, define it which ever way you like, for me, i would describe all of this as hypocrisy.

I missed that.
Does it include people already in isolation?

Mr Morrison said, close contacts in food production, distribution and processing, as well as emergency services, **would be able to go to work if they were asymptomatic and returned a negative rapid antigen test (RAT) result.“**

“It’s all of those now caught up in those new critical supply chain rules and we are looking to extend those to other sectors.”

Mr Morrison said that the change – approved by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee, which is made up of state chief health officers and chaired by the chief medical officer – had been sent to premiers and chief ministers to be endorsed on Monday morning.

What all this means is that if you are covid positive but are asymptomatic then all you need to do is to produce a fake negative RAT test then you are free to travel and work.

My local was the emptiest I've seen it today. A lot worse than the Great Dunny Paper Rush of 2020.

Keep in mind a lot of the world is going through the same thing, it's not just us. Global shipping has been buggered lately. It must be getting pretty dicey food wise in some third world countries, e.g. Yemen and Somalia.

Australia's position with food supply is very different than the majority of countries.

Aust. has many advantages that those other countries just do not have.
But these advantages are being denied by the stupidity of our Govt.

If this Govt. can't secure enough food on our supermarket shelves for a relatively small population then we should expect that a vast number of people will be dying in countries like India and China and not from covid but from starvation.

My son was away on a 4wd trip with his mates on the Far South Coast. His best mate didn't find out until they were on the trip he is a close contact. All had Covid tests in Moruya 8 days ago and don't have the results (yet). Anyway my son completed his 7 days isolation (with us at home) and is now back at work.

Haha ha, prophylaxis, but how is that a treatment for starvation?

A fake Covid result?
Isn't that called a 'Novak' now?
