That wasn’t Moneyball.
I'm talking about the Mahe Fonua, Corey Thompson type signings. Players that were cheap who had good stats in the UK and could potentially play above their value.

1 year we had our entire top 30 with prior first grade experience, similar to the Dogs, very different to what we're doing now.

Bullshit - stop using a term you don't understand!!

How the %#$%% was Josh Reynolds on massive overs any semblance of buying a bargain player due to stats???
I'm talking about building a top 30 which is nothing to do with one individual player. I'm sorry that you don't understand.

We will still need to pay a bit of overs for 3 more good solid players .
Hard Edge young Prop
Tall fast Winger
Tough or speedy centre
all need to be able to walk into our team
once we get a few results and climb up the ladder players will take notice specially if we moved up to top 8 in 25 that would leave players from about 6/9 teams looking at us as potential new club and finals bound team

Just another POV, from the Lebanese perspective:
I always refer to Moneyball in league as finding cheap players that we can get value from that goes beyond their market value.
Not so much edging edge stats etc
For example, Nathan Brown next year to add some starch in defence and experience for 200k.
Euain Aitken, who should be our #1 target, for his experience, versatility in positions we lack in.
Smart cheap purchases, like going through the one euro bin looking for DVDs of hidden horror gems when looking for a movie.

Thing is, we dont even do that as a club, which makes this thread bizarre, we like to go for big fish and pay overs, or rejects, or kids. I dont see any plan like how doggs did or the dolphins did.
I think those two clubs played it smart.
We need to do a combination of moneyball (by my definition above) and pepper with stars, and fill the back end of the thirty with talented kids.
Balance. Not this all or nothing

Thanks for that explanation LCA, it’s giving me a better understanding of the term ‘money ball’.
My take from your idea of money ball journeymen and pepper I agree with and is what I’ve been banging on about for a few years.
Put simply it means we need to enhance the reputation of players while they are playing in our jersey not after they leave.
We will start winning when we can do that, it’s pretty simple isn’t it.
