really. over the time i have been a poster on here, i have been one of the biggest critics of benji marshall.
i think it is a good move for wests tigers that he will no longer be at the club as of next season.
when he was going just awfully (before he picked up in the '10 and '11 seasons) i had had enough of him costing the tigers games with all of his mistakes (we all know them now… the passes to the 3rd row, kicks on the full, etc).
i even started a thread called "the tigers need to get rid of benji" during that time that caused huge uproar! i honestly felt really bad with how i had upset so many of you guys. i was only thinking of the club.
in all of his career with the tigers, i think if we have a truly objective look at what he has given them on the field, and what the tigers have done by sticking with him i think he has come out of it all the better of the two parties.
now he is leaving, i read all of the comments on here and want to put forth in a new thread what i think:
i cant believe marshall ever gave to the tigers anything but all he was capable of. as a person, i have never met him and have never judged him on a personal level. i just think that he is not that great a rugby league player. in the beginning, he was something different and the opposition didnt know what to do against him. but apart from his little renaissance, where he actually became a good 5/8, he has just been too predictable a player...with his "unpredictability".
being so "unpredictable" has cost the tigers far more than it has benefitted them.
i have no bitterness. no "he should have stuck by the tigers after they stuck by him all these years". no "i cant believe they are letting the most potent attacking weapon the tigers have ever had" or anything like that.
to me it is simple. it is a case of someone who promised so much but in the end didnt work out. it happens.
all i want to say is thank you benji for giving your all to the tigers, and good luck for what may come next.
