A TERRORIST propaganda magazine has issued a chilling warning to Australia after the Sydney siege.

The al-Qaeda-produced magazine Inspire claimed deranged killer Man Haron Monis took hostages in the Lindt Cafe after his “peaceful protests” failed.

“After years of peaceful protest in Australia, a 50 yr old Muslim takes dozens of hostages in a cafe for 16 hours,” it reads.

“Mr Abott (sic) you should have known by now that peace and security is a two-way equation.”

The magazine calls on extremists to carry out attacks on US soil.

AUSTRALIAN death cult jihadists who fought with Islamic State in Syria before travel was banned to the region have returned home to roam our streets as free men because of a legal loophole.

More than 20 Australian terrorists, who have been militarised and brutalised, have returned from the Middle East and are now free in the community.

It is understood about half escaped any form of charges because proving what Australian jihadists have done overseas is difficult.

The government introduced new counterterrorism laws giving Foreign Minister Julie Bishop the power to ban travel to particular terrorist regions, but those who are already in the region cannot be jailed for flying there because the laws are not retrospective.

Nineteen of the 25 Australians who returned home from Afghanistan after fighting with Al-Qaeda were later involved in some form of terror activity in Australian.

The revelations show why the government is cancelling the passports of wannabe terrorists so they remain in Australia rather than being let go because prosecuting cases is difficult.

Australia has placed a ban on all travel to the Islamic State heartland of al-Raqqa in northern Syria.

While the laws are not retrospective, it is an offence to remain in a terror no go zone after the ban has been implemented.

Attorney-General George Brandis is on leave, but a spokeswoman for his department said Australians needed to leave terror zones immediately.

“Anyone fighting with IS and other terrorists should end their association with these groups now and leave the conflict zone,’’ she said.

“Legislation recently passed by the parliament means those who leave Australia to engage in terrorism can be arrested (and) prosecuted … on their return.

“We know there are some young Australians who think they’ve made the right choice in becoming involved in overseas conflicts, but that choice only adds to the suffering in Syria and Iraq — and it’s putting those young Australians themselves, and others, in mortal danger.”

Earlier this week, Ms Bishop said blocking Australians from leaving for potential terror roles was a better outcome than letting them leave and return.

“If they do become radicalised in Australia and then go overseas and fight with these organisations there is a risk they will come back as battle-hardened experienced terrorists,’’ she said.

“People who have become experienced terrorist fighters overseas do try and come back to their home country and try to carry out terrorist attacks.”
 
they say we can't deny them their freedom - they carry an Australian passport - but at what - the cost of our freedom. These are not real Muslims. Real Muslims don't kill. Real Muslims are cool.
 
Both me and my boss' partner used to see this bloke at Martin place in the mornings protesting nonsense about lawyers or something all the time. He would be there early in the mornings. As people have said here the incident had nothing to do with being Muslim which is why the #illridewithyou campaign was so irritating to me even though it came out of goodwill it was so patronising.

Mental patients and religious fanaticism are a dangerous mix.

I recorded the 9 networks production and just watched it now. It was riveting viewing. Liz Hayes did a fantastic job. I was emotional just now as I was at the time & the days following.

I wasn't for them getting paid for their stories. At first it didn't sit right with me. My view has changed in that regard. I've seen the term heroes been branded about. They're not heroes, but they are survivors. Some very brave and admirable people in that group. The customers were very thankful for the calm quick thinking ways of some of the young staff.

Hopefully the telling of their stories will let them move past this.

Idk how anyone can be branded a hero for running out and leaving others behind, running the risk of leaving the others to cop the brunt of whatever frustration a hostage taker might dish out to them. Not saying they're cowards either, i mean until you're in that position you can't judge. But its definitely not the action of a hero.

Agree with this , poor people were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Marcia mikheal is a hero though , just ask her !! She seemed pretty over the top but to be fair she had been through so much, maybe she was still traumatised to be interviewed, or perhaps just her views as she sees them

They're not heroes. But I'm not going to slate any of them who bailed first chance. If I'm wanting to see ny family again and not leave a wife widowed and kids fatherless I'm not going to be too concerned about the others in there.

To be fair, how many people would have been too fearful to run in the first instance, fearing being shot in the back? I don't think I could even make that decision.
