In the RLW players poll, Woods was not even in the top 6 props, don't know how far down he was, only listed 6, so fellow players don't rate him. :astonished:

correct me if I'm wrong but that poll was for a vote for the single best prop in the game…

Yep. So it's not a case that no-one rates him in the top 6, just that very few think he's the best prop in the game. (I agree with them)

Fact is every position had 5 or 6 players taking up the majority of votes, even hooker had 5 players, when I would have thought Smith would have near all the votes, same as half with Thurston, Moses got 8% of votes for 5/8th, Woods is not really rated apparently.

I know it was a tough game but I thought Vaughan was I bit quiet today, didn't have much impact.

He was ordinary. As for Woods I think he improved a lot this year. He always gets good metres and that is important but this year has added some real quality ball playing to his game.

I think Woods is one of the top props in the game. I'm not sure who is better.

Yep agreed, Woods is good! He needs a big runner to join him, especially when woods is off we lose so much momentum.

I think we have enough props. Woods, Ava, Grant, Sue are a pretty good set of props that compare well to any teams props. When you add Felise and ET to the list that is really good. I rate Felise highly. I know ET is a small backrower but he plays in the middle and you tend to see 3 props with the lock playing the same role now. Aloia could also slot in the middle easily.

Felise needs to be there next year. Our edge backrowers aren't at the same level as our props but maybe playing Sur and Aloia out wide can work.

Lichaa was a gun in the 20s,had heaps of skill. Hasler has Coached the footy out of him,making him a non running defender. He did the same to Ennis,and look how he kicked on at the Sharks. Don't think Lichaa is as bad as some make out.

Moltzen was a gun in the 20's.
So was that fullback we had that was hailed as the next Hodgo- went to Parra, can't remember his name.
Omar Sleimankhel was a gun in the 20's.
Being a gun in the 20's means nothing really.

Obviously it was a joke, hence the Robbie Mears reference (he would be 40 years old now wouldn't he?).
On Lichaa though, TBH haven't really seen him produce anything above the crud that Luani served up in his 1st grade games. He's a dud, why any club would get rid of Ennis to sign Lichaa is anybody's guess. Genius move by Des right there!

At least hes a forward, not many pommy backs have much success here lately

Very few supporters from other clubs rate Woods

Main reason is he is too much of a pussy cat on field , lacks some mongrel

Answer this for me , most top props have big hit selection as long as their arms

I can't even remember the last time Woodsy really flogged a bloke in defence

Yet I can remember at least half a dozen from say Keefy for example

Personally I think it is a big weapon in a props arsenal , being able to legally level a bloke in defence

I was reading the sport section in the Sunday Telegraph today and in a small section at the back of the sport that is dedicated to Newcastle there was a small snippet stating that the knights were interested in Paul Vaughn but that they wouldn't be able to compete with the money that the tiger's and dragon's were throwing at him. I live in Newcastle and I'm thinking that this section is only in papers sent up this way as it hasn't been mentioned here yet

Fensom is a plodder, that's why he's in reserve grade

Idris is capable if switched on and we need a big hard running centre
Vaughan is just what we need
Moa is just what we need
Whare would be a great pick up

So, with that analysis, you can bet your house that we will sign Lichaa and Fensom and miss out on the rest :laughing:

Please not another hooker. We have liddle, ballin, littlejohn. spend the money where needed.

But the chances of that being possible for even half the season are tiny, and if that's the plan the Tigers go into the season with we're all going to have to get used to seeing a lot of Jordan Rankin/Elijah Taylor/who knows at dummy half.

We absolutely do not and should not be spending any money we have to add another hooker in our team. If Ballin is not going to be able to play why is he still on our books. So we have Ballin, liddle and to me JLJ is more a hooker than a dummy half. You have marshall king a utility who has played a bit there. JT pretty much wants his dummy half to pass to the halves, so spend any money we have on a centre who can tackle or a power forward.

Ballin is on the books because he has a two-year deal, and presumably the club is hoping he'll come back from his latest injury rather than just paying him out. But realistically we all know there's next to no chance he'll be able to be the starting hooker for the bulk of the season.

Liddle has 20 minutes of first-grade experience and absolutely should not be assumed to be ready to play the bulk of the minutes.

It's lovely that you think Littlejohn is a hooker but he has zero first-grade experience in the position and the fact that he wasn't tried at nine in 2016 in the weeks we were running Halatau, Elijah Taylor and Rankin out there suggests to me that the coach doesn't see him as one either.

Ditto Marshall-King, frankly. You're talking about giving a top 25 slot to a guy who plays a bit of hooker in reggies and isn't widely considered to be a first-grade standard player full stop - let alone in a position he generally covers rather than prefers.

I'm not talking about going out and signing a big money player. What I'm saying is that the club is going to need to devote a roster spot to either a utility who's got enough experience at nine to cover the position for extended periods (like a Halatau) or a cheap specialist hooker (some sort of Danny Levi/Isaac de Gois equivalent). This is likely to be a minimum salary job and in fact it's the roster spot that'll hurt more than the contract. But it clearly makes hugely more sense to have someone in the squad who can legitimately play the position than to waste the same roster spot on the likes of Marshall-King.

Yeah and then I look at a big impact player like Junior Paulo and while he does make some big hits, he also makes some bad misses. Everybody loves a showman though…

How can we have 4 hookers for next season!!! even though i think lichaa could offer us something we dont have a need for him… give us idris, vaughan and re-sign taylor = top 8
