Off-contract Broncos star Jordan Kahu says he’s open to best offers

JORDAN Kahu says he will do what’s best for his young family when it comes to securing his future beyond 2017\. The Broncos star and Kiwi international is off-contract at the end of this season, along with a number of his Brisbane teammates. While players like Anthony Milford and Darius Boyd are expected to be among the first re-signed by the club, Kahu’s future is still up in the air.

The centre said staying in Brisbane would be the easiest option as this stage with his young family, but did not go as far as Milford to say he was only considering the Broncos. Kahu is keeping his options open. With his partner Jess Kent due to give birth to their second child next month, Kahu said he would keep all options open. “I am doing everything for them right now,” he told The Courier-Mail. “I have to make sure I’m looking after them first and foremost. I have to see what the best offer is and make sure I’m doing the best for my family.
 
Kahu isn't a world beater but he ticks a lot of boxes. Experienced, gritty, good goal kicker, stable. He played some excellent matches at fullback for NZ filling in for RTs last year. We could do worse.

I'd love Ivan to sign Edwards from the Panthers but we need some experience in the backs too. Edwards, Suli and Milne don't have 30 first grade matches of experience between them.

Doesn't seem to have any trouble taking a pass from Roberts, after Roberts has made a break.

How fast do you want him to be?

Lots of people take Roberts passes, after Roberts has already burned his energy on a 50 m carry and slowed down to distribute.

I just don't rate him and I'm sure he is adequately fast for winger, I mean they have Corey Oates on the other side, but I only get excited about JAC or James Roberts fast. Average fast means half the guys will catch you.

That's two months old. NRL posted yesterday about Kahu and Glenn being best buddies, likely to seal new deals in Brisbane. Not guaranteed but pretty high pointing.
 
I think you will find we will be offering a lot of contracts to a lot of players knowing that we will be lucky to have a 10% success rate. Most players really do not want to leave their clubs and teams like the Knights and us are doing a good job of forcing up the market value of most players. Also for a player to leave QLD you would nearly have to offer double the odds

We’re hearing Brisbane prop Joe Ofahengaue could be headed to Sydney.

The 21 year-old has had limited time in the top grade this season and rivals are circling the off-contract Tongan international.

Another Bronco is in Sydney this week testing the market and trying to get a gig for next season .. Joe Ofahengaue. Hasn't been unable to get regular spot in the top grade since mid 2016 after the allegations of cheating at a Brisbane Casino and driving infringements. Brisbane papers have him leaving the club for a Sydney club next season.
 
I'd take big O, but he and JJ are quite similar. Absolute monster workhorses in the 20s but do they have the ability to do so in NRL? Neither are huge by today's forward standards but could look to replace woods long term.

Kahu had the chance to move to Sydney once and reneged on his contract with us, the chances of him uprooting his young family interstate for anything but a significant pay rise is doubtful, especially with the increased cost of living in Sydney

I dont think so, hes asking for a release but no one has oficially anounced his signing with the eels yet…. why is that i wonder?
 
We need to sign some props soon. With Woods/Ava gone and Grant not signed.
Sue did his pre season training as a backrower and looks lighter this year. JJF has hardly had any NRL minutes this season.
We need at least four NRL ready frontrowers for 2018.
So far we have Matulino signed as a starting prop. Sue (probably coming off the bench as an impact forward. JJF and Twal as young props mostly playing ISC.
Paasi, Packer, Vete, Pulu , Asiata, Lawton, Joe O would be good.
 
Wests Tigers are making a play for Tui Lolohea to replace James Tedesco at fullback next season.

Market Watch can reveal they’re preparing to table him a two-and-a-half-year deal, which if the Warriors release him before June 30, would see him join the club this season.

As it stands, Stephen Kearney has given the utility permission to speak to rivals for 2018 but it’s understood the Warriors would consider an early release if his deal is dependent on a mid-year move.

If Lolohea can secure an early release, it’s expected he would move into the halves for the rest of the year, where he would partner Luke Brooks.

That would allow Mitchell Moses to finally secure his release to join Parramatta.

Any clarity around this situation is still at least a week away, with Lolohea in camp with the Tongan Test team.
Having unsuccessfully made a play to get Connor Watson out of his deal at the Roosters, the Tigers have now made Lolohea the priority and are likely to set up a meeting with the player next week.

Tigers coach Ivan Cleary is yet to meet Lolohea, with the 22-year-old just a youngster in their junior system during Cleary’s time at the Warriors.

While a starting position is appealing for the New Zealand international, the other thing in the Tigers’ favour is the addition of Ben Matulino to their squad next season.

Lolohea and Matulino are close friends and it’s thought that friendship will help make the move across the ditch easier.

Do people really go where their friends go? I mean enough players have played at enough clubs that there are cross-club friendships everywhere.

E.g. Trent Barrett knows CHN who is also mates w ET.
