Like 2010/11..oh..

Ancient history. We need to stop looking back and start living in the present.

The point was made if we start making finals in back to back years players would be lining up to come here well we did that and the queue was very short..It actually started our worst recruitment period in the Clubs history..

Didn’t we sign guys like Ellis, Galloway, Tuquiri, Blair around that period.
They were pretty big names at the time.

Keefy was 2006 , Ellis 2009 , Blair 2012 , Lote was 2010 though

And they all left shortly after>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>meanwhile Rankin Littlejohn Patterson Rochow et al joined the queue after 2 years of somewhat sustained success..

Oh almost forgot Bwaith….

Shocking recruitment from 2011-2014 really. There were some positives in there like Taupau and Austin but that's about it...

Yeah well I could have went on…

This was AFTER back to back finals appearances which didn't really equate to quality players queuing up to join was the point..

Has anyone from the Wests Tigers management said that we have a problem with the Salary cap, or is it just forum members saying we have a cap problem.
No one here knows what our cap space is, and just because you have capacity in your cap that doesn’t guarantee that you can attract elite players here.
Success on the field will attract quality players here, no top line players wants to add a wooden spoon to their resume.
They want to play finals footy, when we start doing that consistently it will attract the elite players.

Any news on Robert Jennings? Exactly what we need on the wing. Wouldn't be surprised if Cronulla snaps him up. Don't think South's will resign him.

Agree 100% BT. But what are Knights doing to attract the players they have? Paid overs I assume???

Knights would have to be under salary cap pressure now..

Pearce 1 mill
Klemmar 850k
Ponga 750k
Watson 500k
Herman 500k
Glasby 600k
Guarra 500-600k
Skd/moga 350-400k.

They reckon they are going after another good player too..

The figures you’ve guessed for Guerra and Glasby in particular look very far off the mark…

According to today's Sunday Telegraph (see Siebold story) Robert Jennings has at this point not been re-signed by Souths.

Guerra got snapped up before Pearce/klemmar etc. Knights were still trying to bring in players so a 25% increase on their last contract wouldn't surprise.

Doubt those two would be under 450k. Glasby is a soo rep

We don't have anyone over 800k.
According to ZeroTackle our most expensive player is Reynolds on 750\. Brooks is on 550 and Lawrence on 300.
I would assume we are in a very good position re the cap.

Adding the 3 development players on minimum wage would make it more so.

Mbye is getting paid in part by the bulldogs so around 650k I think.

We are in a good spot honestly. We could be a genuine force within two years.

I am lost … We as a club are making a profits and record members, Corporate $$$ etc... but the clubs with salary cap problems, Dis-functional Boards just keep signing Rep players like it is nothing.. Surely I am not the only one that is pissed off
Sharks are a good example - Salary cap problems and they must be decent for the NRL to take this long are still able to sign SJ and linked to Marty T, Johnson from Souths etc...
As a league fan that is losing interest in the game because the system is floored and NRL don't care. These TPA should be capped or scrapped as far as I am concerned because you have a few teams that run out each week with like 10+ rep players and other teams can only afford a few because they are doing the right thing... Roosters won the comp this year and most teams who win the comp generally lose players but not them.. They lost a few but replaced them with more quality players..
Sorry had to get this off my chest... Rant over.

I have often wondered the same thing. You look at the Dogs after their cap woes who can sign new players, as can the sharks, even the Knights were in dire shape not too long ago and then you see the Tigers who seem to be perennially up against it.

But then you look at the glamour clubs like the Storm, the Broncos and the Roosters. Success Is an expectation rather than bonus and you say What’s the difference?

I think the difference is that some clubs (e.g. Dogs, Sharks and Knights) gear for short term success in the hope it will bring long term prosperity. The so-called glamour clubs run it as a business and build their success on stronger financial and strategic underpinnings.

Good call mate

I think the Tigers tried the former, ended up in a whole heap of cap trouble and have made the decision to move toward the latter. It might not provide the instant gratification we so desire but it should sustain us for the longer term.

Now, before this is shot down by those who claim we haven’t had finals success since 2011, I would say that it has only been 18 months since we addressed our cap issues.

I would say the future looks a whole lot brighter than it did

Our recruitment so far for 2019 has been very good. By that I mean we have targeted three areas that needed fixing and targeted three young players who we being road blocked in very good systems by some of the best players in the game. This approach to recruitment is much better than recruiting journeyman or players in the twilight of their career

My only concern is we still need probably two or three more players and at this stage we have one vacant position. Obviously we need to shop a couple of players, but that can only happen if a club is willing to buy a player off us.

Anyway as I said, I like the type of player the club is trying to recruit

I would imagine we would be the one team that is well under the cap coming into 2019\. Voldemort didn't sign anyone on big $.
Matterson, Packerlino, Marster, would all be on mid range $ or slightly above the NRL average.
Benji and Robbie would be on low $.

Agree. The fact we have been linked with so many players recently in social media sounds like the WTsClub is very active in the player market ATM. and the fact that we haven't sign that top level player yet….....probably suggests we aren't willing to pay overs just to get someone.

Knights are doing an ok job after 3 wooden spoons in the last four years.

Most probably paid overs, and the attraction of not living in Sydney.
