Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I could be wrong, but I think we would be looking at him as a right edge specialist either in the back row or centre.
It’s quite important to have a player that is mobile enough to break tackles and has catch pass skill on the right edge and there is virtually nobody on the market who can do this except for Jack Bird.
As you know I rate Alex Seyfarth and am more than satisfied when he plays on our right edge, but he does not have the attacking ability of somebody like Bird.
We also need somebody who can defend well as our right centre and again there is nobody on the market that can help us in this regard, however Bird when he plays as a right centre is generally very strong defensively.
Obviously I wouldn’t like us to pay too much for him due to his age and injury concerns, but for the right price I think his versatility, experience and on field leadership woukd be great for us.

That would make sense but Bird mostly plays on the left. This is why I find it confusing.

Well that remains to be seen, I can’t see Penrith releasing him when there is no suitable replacements available.
I’d definately take a chance on Ravalawa possibly rediscovering his best form if we only had to pay him a maximum of 200k per season as for that money it is very little risk.
Cmon mate, at any price this would be a dud signing! I’m a broken down 50+ year old and his body is in worse shape than mine

I can’t answer your question… he is available now to sign elsewhere … he must be getting approached by other teams … if he is really still available …

My admittedly uninformed hopes are that he has already re-signed but it can’t be officially announced due to no roster spots currently available
Hope you are right….

I fear it’s not a good signing but think this is where he’ll fit in if it goes ahead. His mobility and defense and also ball playing on the edge would be his main strengths. Durability is the concern.

They mentioned two years on NRL 360, I can probably cop that.

They said that tonight? i watched last night and i didn't see them mention Royce.

Last few starts I take your point, but if Ravalawa come at a small cost, I still think he’s worth the risk.
I really can't urge you enough to get out and watch him live. And really watch him throughout the game. I am 99.9% sure if you did that you would then agree with the rest of us that he should never be considered.

2 years at $400k was what they said was the offer … Im a little dubious they get him that cheap as apparently he is on $600k at the dragons next year …

You'll notice that none of the actual club benefactors in the NRL - Politis, Laundy etc - are actually club sponsors. Why? Because being so expressly rules them out from providing the kind of assistance that actually gives the club an advantage ie topping up player salaries. "Players can earn unlimited amounts from corporate sponsors who are not associated with the club and who do not use the game's intellectual property": https://www.nrl.com/operations/integrity/salary-cap/

Anyway, I hate to get political but this kind of bootlicking gratitude for the crumbs that may fall from a rich man's table always makes me feel faintly sick. Triguboff is not a benefactor to the Wests Tigers in any meaningful way, as can plainly be seen by, y'know, the state of the club over the past two decades. Meanwhile, if he was such a big supporter of Balmain he should have helped them not go bust, shouldn't he?

But you keep bowing and scraping and doffing your cap, see how that works out for you.
You misunderstand the kind of support Harry T provides, or is permitted to provide.

For starters he gave Balmain and now Wests Tigers hundreds of thousands per year to keep them going. It's easy to scoff but back in the 90s that support kept Balmain afloat and won't be forgotten. He would personally pay Balmain players bonuses if they won matches. He was major sponsor several times when Balmain could not get a sponsor.

But Harry always said he didn't need the exposure/advertising, he was only doing it to support the club.

Some time ago I am told he was approached to buy out the club (Wests Tigers) in the very early days before private ownership had occurred at other clubs like Souths. He told the club he'd do it but only if he could run the club "his way" with the previoud powerbrokers surrendering power to him. And the Tigers declined.

Harry T is no fool and he's famously tight with his money - he doesn't just pour it down the drain. So whilst it's a great fantasy to imagine a filthy rich person like Harry T owning the club, don't be under any disillusions that he'd run it with an iron fist (maybe not always for our good) and that the actual owners of Wests Tigers have limited desire to surrender their power base.

Also by all reports his kids aren't much interested in league, which leaves you with a 92 year old benefactor with no clear path of succession.

And every year the CEO rocks up with an open hand and Harry T still ponies up significant funds, despite the decades of waste and mismanagement and failure.

I can't be criticising that.

Corey Oates has been show the door , could he be worth looking at , tall , good finisher , and would be a cheat option
they;ve played poor Corey like a fiddle, every contract renewal they say 2 him leave, yet he resigns, reminds me of Matai(?) from manly. Both would have made more coin calling the clubs bluff. From his past years thou your suggestion stacks up
