I wasn't old enough to see Artie as a younger player .....was he a better back rower than prop ??Imho neither had his ball skills, they were both excellent props though. That is the joy about opinions we all have different ones

Yeah he played centre for Redcliffe in the mid 60sIn his younger days yes he was,Beetson was the catalyst for making props into the modern style rather than just big blokes lacking ball playing skills. When he first came to Balmain from Qld he was rated as a centre believe it or not
Interesting to see the Harold Matt's coaching group. If Wests Tigers really want to improve their defence then John Muggleton is the best defensive coach in the last 30 years of Rugby Union.![]()
Coaches confirmed for 2025
Wests Tigers are pleased to welcome several new coaching staff to the club ahead of the 2025 season.www.weststigers.com.au

Has he coached league before? Could be a plan to get him familiar with the game the promote him slowly up until NRL pending resultsInteresting to see the Harold Matt's coaching group. Somethings gotta give at Bronx. Hopefully it’s willison, Kobe or kotoni and they fall into our lap, just a waiting game tbhMadge won’t let go of Kobe.. especially to us..
He played Origin and Test rugby league for Australia and did coach some league. He is 64 now so mayby he is just a mate of the guy coaching Matt's because if he wanted to coach professionally he would be snapped up tommorrow. They should get him in to provide some guidance at nrl training if they can.Has he coached league before? Yes great perspective. I had that around the wrong way cheers. When thinking offloading you also need to remember we don't have anyone who supports the play. Bula is nowhere near the ruck, ever, too unfit and lazy. Needs a real kick up the ass. Mason is far superior to Bula on that one regard. Even Galvin is superior.
If there's no one to pass to you can't offload...!
I was really surprised to see his name and see it so far down the coaching lists. My memory was that he was a terrific defensive coach in rugby.Has he coached league before? Could be a plan to get him familiar with the game the promote him slowly up until NRL pending results
My suggestion is for Mighty Magpie John Donnelly.Lazarus would have gone close ....webcke also
Kids these daysAdded to my previous post I checked him out. Since 2015 he's been defensive coach of the Parramatta Two Blues so now I'm not as enthusiastic.
I saw that - Muggo is a great coach and I am surprised no one has picked him up over the years since he was back from Ireland and Japan.Interesting to see the Harold Matt's coaching group. The NRL changed the interpretation a few years ago that you have to "make a genuine attempt" to play the ball with your foot, so lack of foot contact (alone) is no longer an indiscretion. You still can't simply roll it between your legs. One thing that I did get out of that article on play the ball speeds was that it confirmed what I have thought for a long while now is that there are so many players that don't touch the ball with their foot when they play the ball.
People were telling me that I was wrong and I was starting to think that I was imagining things, but no, this article basically confirmed what I suspected and that was that players were not playing the ball correctly.
Man, this season watching several matches per week including Tigers and other lower-ranked teams, then watching only Finals teams this past month and seeing the HUGE difference in line speed across 80 minutes from the best sides.I think that the last few years, this year especially, our control of the ruck (and those intangibles above), have contributed HEAVILY to our issues with the pack, rather than statistical output alone. I'd include line speed in D (or lack thereof) as another glaring shortfall; again, hard to quantify.
