Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Casting the memory back not quite as far but I do remember Todd Payten not being able to finish the 2011 season due to injury and as a result did not take part in the Finals, but he must have been extremely pissed when we were eliminated from the 2011 finals by the Warriors after we had the game won and virtually threw it away.

So pissed in fact that he had to do it on the War Memorial in Hyde Park the following day, amazing that he was able to hang on to it for so long.

I'm sure we all have some embarrassing moments that we all regret, doesn't mean we are all bad people.
Ahh, don't remind of that game. Robbie and Benji threw it away with their trick plays. All we needed to do was close it out.

Why would a club, who has just lost JWH, release another prop who is on mid-tier prop money? Particularly when there is a scarcity of top line props.

Either they are signing Payne Hass, or May is not up to scratch in one way or another.

There are rumours ( totally unsourced and unverified ) that he has done something with a teammates significant other …

If this is the case ,you don’t let that fester for 1 day in the dressing room

Smells of desperation... I like it.
Ex West Tiggers lad, good friends with Luai. Hold one spot for the brother until March court date.
Yeah I am driving the company Kia carnival down to the airport when Terrell hits the tarmac, loading him in, and if Taylan is on board, bundle him in the back of it as well.

We're desperate for May,but East's don't punt players for no reason, particularly when they've just lost jwh in same position
If it was seducing a players partner....not a terminal offence...if its lack of commitment, that may or may not be a dealbreaker.Need to understand

I would almost prefer this. People make mistakes.

If it is a continuing poor attitude, lack of commitment, picking up a paycheck type. I think we have had enough of those over the last 10-15 years.

Skelton is faster than almost every single outside back we used in 2024. He's ten times more aggressive and powerful than any back we used this season.
Turuva has been a star his whole career. Fast, elusive, strong he's lightyears ahead of any backs we've had over the past few years.
Then add in Makasini in the back end of the year and the makings of some powerful backs are there
I’m wondering if the people playing down Turuva’s abilities even watched the finals series! He was immense throughout and shone over To’o, imo. Also his combination with Luai (who just happens to be coming here as well) was fantastic. Something to look forward, I hope, though the signing of a couple more good forwards would make me feel a lot better about our chances of a better showing next season.

I could believe that May slept with a team mates partner, and that the disharmony this creates int he dressing room would be enough for Robbo to cut him loose. May says it's nothing to do with off field? Either he's covering his ass, or then it's football related and he's either a poor trainer, disrespectful to coaches or just a bad fit for culture.

Could Luai knock some sense into him? Are they actually that close or were they just team mates. If Luai reckons we should get him on board and that he will work within our culture then that's good enough for me.

Re: Tyrell May

I feel he is too soon here. I like what the Roosters and Sharks would later do:
Collect your rough diamonds once your core squad is sorted.

We don't have Captain sorted.
We don't have a long term spine.

Now, yes we need a strong forward pack and we can't be picky. Someone like May though can easily steer your season away into Chaos.

Benji is a rookie coach. The Sharks were very smart in giving Fitzgibbon Finucane and easier to coach players. Craig would be better at handling may then benji though... No drama queens, were building culture.
We do have our captain sorted - Luai.
We do have our long term spine - Bula, Galvin, Luai, Api>TDS/Haywood

Can't see him coming to a place like the Tigers and the problems he is being sacked for at the Roosters improving. At his best he improves our pack significantly, but if you want a case in point of a non-committed front rower in our environment have a look at what Stefano dished up end of last year. We don't need more players who will dog it when things get tough.

I'm not entirely against it. But it isn't an automatic yes for me. Benji and Richo must do their dues on what the actual issues are.
Agreed, it was a satirical post.

John Bateman was problematic for the Raiders before he left Canberra. And that was 20 minutes after playing a grand final and where he'd played the best footy of his career. He's a mercenary. If he was THAT good the Raiders would have stumped up the cash, and that was in 2019.

I guess that's you get when you let the guy who swapped Andrew Fifita for Adam Blair come back into the fold like nothing ever happened a decade before. I love Tim Sheens the tactician, not the recruiter.

it’s amazing that May gets told by the Roosters that he is “free to leave” with 2 years left on his contract …and he looks like he is just going to cop it sweet and leave ,,,

Our blokes get told they are free to leave and they just laugh and say they aren’t going anywhere…
Not really, their players are highly talented and desirable. Our are useless overpaid pieces of crap that we can't even offload for free to a dumpster.

I'd say pretty much any club could afford a good prop for under 500k! He'd be cheaper than Pole.... Which is crazy
I do think he'll be in line for an upgrade. thankfully WT will be able to outbid all other suitors.

I know I have a long memory (and maybe Rose Coloured Glasses) but isn't this exactly how Todd Payten arrived at the Tigers all those years ago?
Yes, and the Roosters were paying some of his contract to boot, they were the days
