Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Love the NFL. Jets went all in on a hall of fame QB. Probably can’t fault them after Tampa’s experience.

They’ve also sacked their GM and head coach this year so they’re not just accepting the status quo, even if they are a massive joke.

not only went all in on a player, who is 38 years old and a shadow of who he once was … but lets him make a some of the calls on
coaches and bringing in a lot of his player friends as well…

Yeah it’s failed miserably no doubt.

There’s only one TB12

Apparently a poor draft for QB’s next year won’t help either.

What's wrong with kicking on the first tackle from within your own 22 when the opposition fullback is up in the line and make it a footrace to the ball? The worst that happens is their fullback manages to get there first and is pinned down with no one to play the ball to.
Sometimes you need to try something unexpected to sow a seed of doubt. That's why the best NFL teams have a good running game, to set up their passing game and visa versa.
If a fullback is in the line a good winger will be retreating to cover that scenario.

I’m more of a kick on tackle three fan when the wingers are still up and you will find space and have time to kick very long. Underused play.

The NFL need to understand that Brady was an anomaly.

I think we can be the Detroit lions.

The right GM and Coach working on culture and the right new players

Benji has only had 1. And it was an ordinary lineup which got smashed by injury and suspension. Ivan had some decent experience and quality that season.
Trying to look at this objectively. Where was Ivan's experience and quality compared to last year?
Starting front rowers of Packer and Matulino, wouldnt be to incomparable Klemmer and Utoikamanu. Api played a lot more games in 24 than Farrah did in 18. Backrow, Bateman would be at a similar stage in his career to Lawrence whilst Fainu is better quality but less experienced than Rochow and Chee Kam. Eiso and Taylor shared the lock role which is admittedly better than anything that was there in 24 but reality its still only a fringe first grader and an honest toiler.
Id say Ivan had a clear advantage in the halves of Brooks and Marshall over Galvin and Sezer, but still, Cleary was without his 1st choice in Reynolds most that year.
Naiqama is comparable to Olam whilst Marsters was great that year but done nothing before or since and would be somewhat comparable to Naden.
Corey Thompson is probably the pick of the wingers but he only really established himself that season, Staines would have had a better resume taken prior to each season starting. Nofoaluma was playing good footy then, but Marshall couldnt motivate him and whilst the 24 was a revolving door of average wingers its matched by Watene-Zelezniak managing 12 games in 2018.
FB in 18 started out with Lolohea, a little bit of Thompson before finishing with Mbye. More experienced than Bula but any better?? not so sure.
The bench in both years was Twal and some fringe first graders.

Might give a slight edge to the 2018 side over 24 but nothing significant. Both sides had an injury/suspension interrupted outside backs and spine though in 18 it was mostly fullback and hooker with a little bit at 6 whereas it was pretty much the 6, 7 in 2024.

bateman for ravalawa was thrown to us via the dragons

club turned it down want to create a spot for sione

dragons and souths sniffing still
Flanno was on SEN yesterday doing an interview. They are 29 of 30. So still a possibility then.

Souths got 1 spot now Illias gone. Either Bateman or Lodge. Hopefully Bateman is the way they go but I think they lack bigger middles so Lodge may be the option there.

Coaches in any sport that have no success get fired ..that doesn’t mean the CEO/board/owner that makes the call is any better though …and are often worse … but they get to throw someone else under the bus before their time comes

Madge got fired by Souths three years after winning their first premiership in 40 years… he wasn’t going to survive here ( or elsewhere ) after 4 years of going 9th, 11th, 13th and 13th ..

we have already previously agreed that Benji will end up the same if there is not significant improvement in 2025
His first season he benefited from the success Ivan had. He wasn't helped by the roster or what the club expected him to do in his role. In even just a year under Richo there seems to be a much clearer direction and expectation. I expect Maguire will do pretty well in Brosbane with that roster and those resources.

I’d like to see his form hold for another two months and then we sign him on long term.
Honestly, of all the ridiculous things I've ever read on this forum this one is right up there with the guy who thought Wade Graham was the answer to our problems. There is, precisely, one way for a club like the Tigers to be competitive in the NRL: it has to produce a lot of talent, and be right on the money at prioritising the right players as early as possible.

If Galvin gets to the open market there will be a queue of clubs around the block wanting to sign him and, let's be real, he's gone. And your suggestion is that the club ought to say "yeah well you've looked ok so far but we're still not sure - maybe if you gave us another seven or eight good games that might convince us"? I mean, what is going to emerge in a couple of months that isn't already screamingly obvious?

on James Graham’s podcast, Flanagan said he’s looking for a forward that gives him “something different” for his last spot and will look to fill it after Christmas.

Bateman certainly fits that bill. he’d probably thrive under Flanno to be fair. hopefully they come to the table.

10 wins is par for mine with this roster. Would be disappointing but an improvement all the same.

In the past I’d call that accepting mediocrity but we’ve been so far behind mediocre it’s no longer a relevant statement.
I think your pretty close to the mark, only issue I could see is still our abysmal depth which is better now but still not on par with the clubs in the top 8. If we can have an injury free run with this squad this year we could very well push for a finals berth. But if we just have a regular year with guys coming and going through injury 10 wins would probarbly be on the mark.

Don't forget the Denver Lions

I’d have taken Ravalwawa. He’s a try scorer, and it could allowed Turuva to play in the centres.
If Turuva struggles in the centres which the likelihood is high IMO we already have too many wingers: Staines, Skelton, Laulilli, Turuva.

Centre is a bigger problem. We're relying on Turuva making it as a centre and Olam getting through a full season. If Faatape gets a run we're in deep trouble.
