Agree with this, we can keep both by grooming Hayward as a half…..I agree but it does give us some insurance if the pressure is applied

Connelly Lemuelu EX West junior told him he was not good enough.I enjoyed @Jolls latest write up in the Deep Dive thread about structures and what player types we could utilise to enhance our system.
It reinforced our need for a right edge backrower who is strong in carry and I think fits our prototype of quite an athletic beast as well as another impact prop to complement Royce Hunt (as Kit Laulilii is still at least another 12 months away imo and is best developing in Cup).
Here are some options both off-contract now or off-contract Nov-1 who we may be able to pry away early.
BACK ROW:
-Kai Pearce-Paul (off contract)
-Zac Hosking (off contract Nov-1 but Canberra have strong depth in the backrow, an athletic strong workhorse who is quite quick and familiar with the Panthers system)
-Connelly Lemuelu (off contract Nov-1 & only a bench utility at the Phins atm, a powerful edge who Benji knows well)
-Jacob Laban (off contract Nov-1 at the Warriors and may be one lured by the Benji factor & more $$$ if Warriors are close to cap, only young & could be anything)
PROP:
Not many options with experience our there which I think we need as well for another prop but one who could fit the bill who is off contract is at the Storm with some of the biggest legs you've seen.
- Lazarus Vaalepu
I also feel like a rejuvenated Taylan May would be a great asset for our 3/4 line if that happens as many suspect and another option who is off-contract that could fit in well in our system is a workhorse lock who is an animal defensively and has very good ball skills and used to be in our pathways years ago.

Something in the NWRL maybe kenzie aps

Women's jersey again?
Tallyn just turned 20 over Easter and is signed through next year (as is Api), so he will be 22 this time in 2027 and Koroisau 34, which are both reasons why the club should be looking to extending Tallyn prior to November.Someone needs to have a quiet word with TDS and remind him about how Harry Grant played reserves for 2 years after debuting in grade waiting for Cam Smith to retire. I get that he is ambitious but Api is by far our best option to play hooker for us. I don’t get the entitlement myself.
If he is close to Galvin and considering moving on as he feels the team is breaking up a little i get that, but we should be signing both as a priority. Api and TDS. He is 19 for peats sake.
Comparable Hookers that ended up becoming first choice players in there team.
Robson, Cowboys run on debut at 21
Brailey, Sharks run on debut at 21
Mahoney, Eels run on debut at 21
Egan, Warriors run on debut at 22
Momeselous, Rabbitohs run on debut at 24
Grant, Tigers run on debut at 22
Makes sense that it would be Kez with the wordplay on “App Update”Kezie Aps playing Origin this week…
Richo is overseas right now, so doubt anything meaningful going to be announced

Should look at Warriors forwards, they have heaps coming through. I like Jackson Ford also. The Warriors have apparently recently signed Morgan Gannon for 2026 and beyond.
He is an up and coming young, mobile and aggressive edge back rower in the Matty Nicholson mould.
The Warriors don’t even need more edge back rowers, how do we keep missing out on these opportunities?
I’d like to bet The Warriors will not be wanting to offload any of their own young up and coming back rowers, so it might mean an early release is in the cards for Kurt Capewell ?
I know it’s not ideal looking at or potentially signing forwards on the wrong side of 30, but Kurt Capewell has always kept himself looking very fit and he still looks to be quicker than most other NRL edge back rowers.
If he become available I think he would be a good fit for season 2026 and 2027 while we wait for someone else to develop internally.
Api is twice the player of both of those guys atm. Lots of unknowns about Haywood at higher levels still, despite his evident talent.it's a really tough one because of how important Api is as a leader at the club and the standards he drives, on and off field.
we can't disrespect him and I suspect we won't, but will we lose one of Tallyn or Jared in the process? it's a worry.

Not saying that Api cannot remain as well, though I expect the roles would be reversed unless the much hyped Haywood youngster is the bee's knees.
He was apart of our u21s at the time . I remember there was huge rapsConnelly Lemuelu EX West junior told him he was not good enough.
I would prefer Jackson Ford, but he is one of the coaches favourites, I can’t see them letting him go.Should look at Warriors forwards, they have heaps coming through. I like Jackson Ford also.
Noticed that Roosters Union centre recruit with the big surname is a real weaponNot a great list there IMO…. Richo might have to start thinking outside the square with England or even Rugby Union …havent seen a lot of Canberra games this year , but haven’t noticed Hosking when I have … I thought he was good last year though ..
They need 4-5 NRL additional NRL ready immediately players for next year … starting to get concerned where they are coming from , but in Richo we trust ..
He was a Balmain junior from memoryNoticed that Roosters Union centre recruit with the big surname is a real weapon
No a genius that is no longer at The Tigers told him he would not make it.Which is a shame. He was apart of our u21s at the time . I remember there was huge raps
On him , then he fell away . He did the hard yards in Q cup . I think it was more about him , than the tigers getting his assessment wrong at the time . He worked hard and got better . Plus he was a centre/ wing at the time
100%.
TDS is one of the only gun juniors that we have properly developed. He has been brought through slowly and is still learning from Api every day and will continue to do so until the end of 26. Young Haywood is lower on the rung.
Tallyn is the most immediate future. By the commencement of season 2027 he will be perfectly ready to take over the 9 jersey.
