Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Manly had a similar question before. They had Trent Hodkinson who was carving it up...
They realised they had someone better in lower grades, DCE.

TDS needs to push Api out if he wants to stay. Can't remember who, but it was summarised that TDS is more like Michael Ennis then a Damien Cook. Haywood seems a better development prospect and would happily pair him with Api...

The key:
We choose who we want.
We get rid of Grubs, and grubby managers. I suspect we have lost Bula due to us pushing Issac Moses back in the club... So we start again... NO GRUBS.
We get people who want to play here and who like playing here. It's a priviledge to wear our jersey, we carry 200 years of NRL experience and toil as the WT.

Tiger pride.
We need to keep players like TDS and Bula if we want to avoid being a shitheap again.

I agree. I’d be using Galvin’s money to ensure guys like TDS, Bula, May & to a lesser extent Luke Lualilii are still here in 4-5 years. Young talent can’t continue to leave.
It’s all good and well to say we want to keep them, but it all comes down to dollar value and whether or not they are willing to show a bit of loyalty and re-sign for a fair and reasonable price.
As an example would you pay Bula 1 million dollars per season and would you pay Da Silva 500k or higher per season ?
We just signed Terrell May for a rumoured 660k per season, we may need to upgrade him real soon if he keeps playing at his current level and plays SOO etc.

Answer:
Because we have Hayworth, who some are saying is a better prospect then TDS...
How can you compare a bloke who has proven he can handle NRL to someone who hasn’t played any senior footy and say the latter is a better prospect?
TDS is our immediate future.
But, hey I am up for it. If TDS wants to play here and a faster style out of Dummy half seems to suit us...
Then we make it work, but we make it clear, our NR1 is Api.
We are no flight deck. Nor a charity house. We will do what's right by Api and he will and has done right by us.
Api is here until the end of 26. After that he will be overtaken. Tallyn has already played 19 games. By the start of 2027 he’ll be past 50. He is a classy 9 mate. He will be great for us.

On Kepaoa we also need to realise we are very short on outside backs for next year at this stage

We currently have
Skelton
Toa
Turuva
Luke Laulii who will still only be 19
Saukuru who hasn't made it out of Flegg
Makasini - who hasn't even made Flegg

Currently that's it in the outside backs for next year. Nothing wrong with signing a bloke with 50 nrl games and who is currently the best winger in nsw cup comp to your roster especially when the club knows what kind of person he is
Don’t worry, To’o will likely be here next season 😁

He’s better in the sense that , he’s had higher rep honours than TDS at the same age . From watching him , he seems really shift around dummy half .
For me I’d love a 9/14 combo of TDS and Hayward in 2028.
I saw something interesting on 360 today . Api is a bears junior , and will be thier target for thier inaugural season . Maybe he goes to Perth for a fat pay check and a couple of years . I wouldn’t begrudge him .
I hope Api stays. This culture we are building is less than a season old. We need him for the next 2-3 years to finish the job and bring the next crop through with the rest of the Penrith crew.

Wasn’t me was it ?
I’ve never been a huge AJ fan, but he is far better than quite a few we currently have in our top 30.

nah …😂….

If you are going to tell me he is better than some of the Top 30 guys that can’t even make the NSW Cup team … then that’s not a high bar….
The Bears have Api in their sights according to Florimo . Will probably throw a motza at him to set up the retirement fund with an offer to good to refuse. Might be good timing for TDS to mature into the role.

It would be very Wests Tigers to let TDS go and then have Api get an offer to good to refuse that the Tigers can’t match …. I’m sure Richo will play this one just fine …in my opinion I’m leaning they keep TDS

Flo was just throwing out names of player who have played for the bears. Hes a rerrible target to throw a Montza at his age by 2027.

Nah not for 1 or 2 seasons to kick them off ! They will struggle to make signings I reckon .
I can see a squad full of Q cup and NSW also rans , with 3 or 4 big stars .

I.dont see the hate for AJ. Obviously had flaws has gone away found his position is dominating cup and has improved considerably. So many people panning him without giving any credence to the work he has gone and done. Some.comments however we're very amusing but gibe him a shot before you crucify him imo.
Our cups.been woeful so.signing a number of fringies and seeing if any pan out is smart buis to.me

On the rumour that AJ Kepaoa might be rejoining us, it’s nothing to be jumping for joy about, but we certainly need to be much more strategic and start getting the right balance across our entire squad, not just focus on our top 17.
I believe having like for like replacements is ideal and when talking about someone who could be signed on a minimal contract primarily as a back up player, AJ Kepaoa is as close to Jeral Skelton as you could find in that scenario.
In saying this, does it mean Brent Naden is departing at seasons end ?
Naden has clearly demonstrated he is a more than capable back up, particularly as a winger wiling to do plenty of the tough hit ups out of our own danger zone.
