Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

At a guess Reynolds would be cheaper for them I’d expect
Yea, Reynolds would make sense... But Des has the relationship with DCE.

I can't see Des going all out for Reynolds. Although yea, it may be the consolidation prize.

DCE -> chooks, I can't see it. I also can't see him selling his house to move from Manly to Eastern Suburbs...

Des will make a big offer for DCE and likely get him. But yea, the failure option is Adam Reynolds...IMHO a pretty decent failure option at that.

O
Young is managed by Tartak. Tigers have many Tartak clients.

Could be a case of we have sealed KPP & Young being close with KPP we are having a look at him.

We have 20 on the books for next year. I would suggest Young has more upside than Faataape, Naden & Staines. For $250K it's not a bad buy.

Skelton is on $235K & Turuva about $350K. Luke Lualili also unsigned.

Simply we don't have huge outside back depth signed past this year.
Tartak manages outside backs Makasini, Luke Laulilii, Saukuru & Feledy. I don’t think he would try to load another outside back with us and block the pathway of his other clients with us even with Feledy likely not to be retained.

As much as I love Taylan May, the player, and would love to see him turn things around and become a success story. I just have very serious concerns about his mental health and really hope he gets the best treatment for him and his future regardless. That’s the most important thing.

I’ve got a bit of a background with working with people with mental health issues. After seeing some of his social media posts and a few things his brother said about him to James Graham regarding Terrell not even knowing which Taylan he would get day to day. I can’t shake the feeling there’s some sort of bipolar or schizophrenic behaviours occurring. I think it’s more than just a tough guy/tough upbringing persona.

This is just my opinion, but I’ve had dealings with people with these mental health conditions and they seem to look through you, not at you. Watching Taylan in videos I get that similar vibe. They have manic moments with all these grand ideas (eg. his “rap career” and big business ideas/buying and selling expensive jewellery, etc). It might come across like he likes living this gangster lifestyle. Even recently his photos in what looks like a new found religion. It all just all seems very erratic.

As I said, I could be completely wrong and would love to see him do well in whatever he does. I just hope he gets the help he needs. I’d just hate to see Terrell become implicated or have issues with the club if we have no choice but to sack his brother if there’s issues.

I also really hope that if we give him a shot, the family understands we’ll do everything we can to help him succeed, but we are a business and we have standards that have to be met.

Yo bit of real talk, I have a BP diagnosis actually, and ADHD and all kinda of others heh, and I agree with what you said. It makes it hard to be consistent week to week. It's not weakness but reality and you need to learn how to manage it. Its like if others are driving a corolla, but you are driving a Ferrari. You gotta learn and understand its sensitivities. I think however, if he is that, Benji for sure is the coach you want. Madge will kill you, it will be a nightmare. Benji is the kinda coach you want for sure, to manage your wellbeing, bring the resilience and and have that EQ. Also we have Greg Inglis involved in the club, who has a bipolar diagnosis and is an amazing role model for mental health.

I agree with you, but even if so, we might well be the best club for him.

Braith Anastasia just said on a podcast that he’s heard Tigers might be one of the clubs interested in Dom Young.
weird one...too good for reserves, but doesn't beat Skelton or Turuva to the wing spot.

With Perth coming in, it may be prudent, however, to stack some quality if you can get them for a decent price before they send the player market crazy.

Dom Young is looking for a new home...
It's funny because at first he seemed like a good buy for the Chooks...

He was definately scoring a lot of their tries, but really letting their end defense down....

For us the lesson needs to be learned. Wing defense is important. Turuva and Skelton have been outstanding with scoring the tries and not letting easy tries through.

Yeh like u can’t live at manly and drive ti the eastern suburbs for work?? Sure!

Bases on numbers I think we are in the hunt.

6 outside backs on the books for next year. Bula, Skelton, Turuva, Toa, Makasini & Saukuru.

No contract for next year - Doueihi, Staines, Feledy, Naden, Craig, Lobb, Luailli, Faataape & Mason.

I am keeping Doueihi, Luailli & Mason. Maybe Staines or Naden but not both on a budget deal.

I agree mate. With the right support systems around him and if he’s getting the best treatment, he can succeed.

My sister in law is bipolar also. Had a huge manic episode a few years ago and it was heartbreaking to see. But she got help and medicated and you wouldn’t have a clue if you were talking to her these days. There’s obviously different levels to it too.

You’re right about Benji too. Players respect him and he seems to have a really good man management style and comes across as a compassionate, family orientated and honest bloke. More so than a hard nosed, over complicated coach. The Polynesian background helps too.

It’s a bit of a blessing and a curse with so many brothers at the club. Yes, they’re all in together, but upset one and you risk upsetting them all. Terrell is not a player I’d like to see leave the club, especially if it’s because of the clubs actions that may come about dependent on his brother. Terrell wants Tyrone as well.

I don’t want him at that price either … but I’ll bet you that he ends up getting paid that much … The issue is that there are two desperate teams about to enter the competition that need to build a team from scratch and either of them will pay him and take the risk that they can get the best out of him
guessing this is about D Fifita..

What's his motivation?

He was a 1m edging 1.3m player. Imagine getting that kind of income and being told "come to the tigers and we will give you 500k".

The only way I can see Fifita performing at his best if he gets a 1-2 year contract and told "earn back your million dollar salary, you can do it". That said, Cowboys/Payten or Sharks/Craig F or even the dogs/Ciraldo are probably the best teams to build him up.

Another way to look at that , is to be like Terrell May , and use it as fuel . Because both he and Fifita were told the same thing really . “ we think you’re talented but you don’t fit into our culture” . Translation … you’re a shit bloke and we don’t want you here .
That would absolutely burn . Sweet you want to pay me 500k to play against you , biggest mistake of your life .

Fantasy.

Terrell was using his fuel before he got here - That's why he was extended over there.
Fifita situation is nothing like May - Fifita has done very little for a very long time outside underperform and not earn his money.
