As much as I love Taylan May, the player, and would love to see him turn things around and become a success story. I just have very serious concerns about his mental health and really hope he gets the best treatment for him and his future regardless. That’s the most important thing.
I’ve got a bit of a background with working with people with mental health issues. After seeing some of his social media posts and a few things his brother said about him to James Graham regarding Terrell not even knowing which Taylan he would get day to day. I can’t shake the feeling there’s some sort of bipolar or schizophrenic behaviours occurring. I think it’s more than just a tough guy/tough upbringing persona.
This is just my opinion, but I’ve had dealings with people with these mental health conditions and they seem to look through you, not at you. Watching Taylan in videos I get that similar vibe. They have manic moments with all these grand ideas (eg. his “rap career” and big business ideas/buying and selling expensive jewellery, etc). It might come across like he likes living this gangster lifestyle. Even recently his photos in what looks like a new found religion. It all just all seems very erratic.
As I said, I could be completely wrong and would love to see him do well in whatever he does. I just hope he gets the help he needs. I’d just hate to see Terrell become implicated or have issues with the club if we have no choice but to sack his brother if there’s issues.
I also really hope that if we give him a shot, the family understands we’ll do everything we can to help him succeed, but we are a business and we have standards that have to be met.
Yo bit of real talk, I have a BP diagnosis actually, and ADHD and all kinda of others heh, and I agree with what you said. It makes it hard to be consistent week to week. It's not weakness but reality and you need to learn how to manage it. Its like if others are driving a corolla, but you are driving a Ferrari. You gotta learn and understand its sensitivities. I think however, if he is that, Benji for sure is the coach you want. Madge will kill you, it will be a nightmare. Benji is the kinda coach you want for sure, to manage your wellbeing, bring the resilience and and have that EQ. Also we have Greg Inglis involved in the club, who has a bipolar diagnosis and is an amazing role model for mental health.
I agree with you, but even if so, we might well be the best club for him.
