So what do we do when he misses a training session?

@ said:@ said:Tell you what Will Hopoate is having a great game tonight… his positional play is excellent... if we can get him for $450-$500 k and he plays Sunday's he'd be a good pickup
Cleary needs to make him No1 priority
@ said:Since we have 3 of Ivan's forwards from his 2011 grandfinal side in packer, Matulino and ET… wouldn't be surprised if he gets the other one that's off contract in the super league.. Sam Rapira. Not saying we should sign him.. Just a thought 😂

Wasn't ET playing in the centers in 2011 or was that Simon Mannering?

Really? Personally I just don't see it with Hoppa. For me your fullback needs that real acceleration and agility to beat his man to create those opportunities at the end of the backline or break the gap with speed ala Teddy. Things seem to go into slow motion and die with Hoppa as that second or third man.
With Teddy gone and the rumoured signings in my opinion we lack speed big time. I'm also not overly convinced that Tui is the answer either.
1\. ?
2\. Nofa (probably the quickest outside back)
3\. ?
4\. Suli (power over speed)
5\. Fonua (assuming he's signed)
6\. Reynolds (running 5/8)
7\. Brooks (has some decent toe)
My backline targets would be Connor Watson, Gideon Gela-Mosby Lattrell Mitchell (would be hard to get), Dylan Edwards, Taane Milne. All stuck behind players at their clubs. Kato Ottio is a decent player and glad we're linked with him and Naiqama/Thompson are strong depth players.
I'd also have a crack at Paasi and CHN in the forwards (along with Packer). Big mobile units who wouldn't break the bank.
1\. Watson/Gela Mosby
2\. Nofoaluma
3\. Fonua/Watson
4\. Suli
5\. Gela-Mosby/Fonua
6\. Reynolds
7\. Brooks
8\. Packer
9\. McIlwrick
10\. Matulino
11\. McQueen
12\. Lawrence
13\. Taylor
14\. Paasi
15\. CHN
16\. Sue
17\. Liddle

Sorry but surely, with the new signings, we don't need to keep Lawrence in the side. Nice guy but he's just not first grade material. Is it necessary because of his good guy image and big bucks??
@ said:Lawrence hasnt been playing badly. Mcqueen and lawrence both cant start though. We need a impact 2nd rower. Move mcwueen or lawrence to the bench.
@ said:1\. Hopoate
2\. Gordon - goal kicker
They are the missing pieces to the puzzle.
If we can get those two, top 8 is very achievable in 2018 and maybe even more likely then the start of 2017.
@ said:So we sign Packer and Lolohea (and assuming Fonua and Thomspon are signed too). Then what next or else ?
We would have
Lolohea
Mahe FOnua
Moses Suli
Dallin Watene Zelezniack
David Nofoaluma
Josh Reynolds
Luke Brooks
Elijah Taylor
Chris Lawrence
Chris McQueen
Rus Packer
Jacob Liddle
Ben Matulino
Bench
Suaso Sue
Josh Aloia
Micheal Chee Kam
Esan Masters
JJ Felise
Alex Twal
Corey Thompson
Tyson Gamble
The way I look at it is Woods and Ava leaving was prob covered by Packer and Matulino
Reynolds covered some of the Moses money but in reality we have the Farah, Sironen and Simona money left even with resigning the players we have given the cap increase - though you prob cover the money with McQueen and Lolohea and Fonua
From my point of view that still leaves the $1.1m we were offering Teddy free at least given we will loose some depth players and gain some too.
Personally I think we need a strike centre and a 4th prop although personally i'd take Grant and the young blokes
ALso I'd like to see an upgrade on the depth players so players 18-30 we lift our quality as well by spending more.

Lawrence has been very good IMO. His work rate is good, he runs and hits hard in defence. He takes the tough runs when Woods doesn't. I have no problem with Lawrence shifting to the right and starting in the backrow next year. He will go even better with quicker play the balls from Packer and Matulino.
People will turn their nose up at this, but Lawrence is a better right side player than left. I have always said he is suited to the right and IMO this was proved a few years ago. We started the year with Rowdy left centre and Simona right. Both were struggling. As soon as they swapped sides both players had an instant improvemnet in form. I have no idea why Lawrence has been stuck on the left his whole career.
Personally, Elijah Taylor is the guy i would start off the bench. We need a big middle early. Lawrence and McQueen in the backrow, Packer, Matulino and Alioai in the middle. Taylor comes on for Alioai at 20 minute mark to play the rest of the game.
The only problem Lawrence has had is some dropped balls, everything else he has been very good.
