Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

He is ordinary mate … anywhere he plays…

He might turn out to be a good player … but it’s way to early yet
Mason has been struggling for confidence and not running the ball enough himself over the past few weeks.
The problem with that is his running game is his strength and he has been looking unsure and clunky when trying to create for others.
However we have plenty of other highly paid fan favourites who have been creating sweet fa in attack themselves, yet they never get criticised ?
Api tries his heart out, but he misses a high amount of tackles every week, he’s clearly not an 80minute player and he’s definitely not a halfback.
Can you honestly tell me that Api at halfback was any better than Heath Mason in the first half last week ? Surely you can’t as Api was totally lost, he looked extremely clunky and done nothing for us as a 7.
I know Api didn’t select himself at 7, so it’s master Benji’s fault, but let’s not sugar coat the real issues.

Api is the second coming and will not be criticised on these boards

If he ever gets selected to play 7 again, Benji should be sacked on the spot.
And surely Richo has to tell Benji to call Ivan Cleary and let him explain the reason as to why he never played Api for the full 80mins.
Honestly when is common sense going to be applied to our team selections and the use of our interchange ?

Why pick him when he has no confidence? Benji doesn’t seem to understand this… not just wth him but has persevered too long with several others

Mason’s main problems are on the other side of the ball for now … needs to have better techniques and be stronger and you practice getting better at training and the lower grades

I agree he needs more time in NSW Cuo tj fine tune his craft as a 6 and as a 9, but the point is he was no worse than Api last Friday night.
As for Mason’s defence, he cost us against the Raiders, but learnt from that and missed no tackles against the Sea Eagles.
Not many people realise he has a powerful physique and his front on defence is actually very strong, his missed tackles have been when reaching to stop our opponents speed men, so defending in the middle will not be an issue for him,

What was his missed tackles the previous two weeks ? ?… you don’t “learn “ in one week …. He played a different position with much less defensive work required ,….

Well you don’t go from missing plenty of tackles to missing none if have didn’t have a think about it and learn something ?
If he had a slight frame and was timid I’d be very concerned that his defence could take a long time to get up to standard, but he has a chunky powerful build and shows no signs of being timid when defending, he’s actually demonstrated he sits opponents on their backside when defending front on.
In saying all this he’s virtually played 4 or 5 games at 5/8 in open age and none yet as a 9 or 13, so yes he needs to be playing those positions in NSW Cup to fine tune his game before he’s ready for more NRL.
He will be a very good NRL 14 with utility value given time, trust me,

What boggles my mind is noone is mentioning that imo Api should have told Benji he will go to the bench and help Tallyn along and take a paycut to make it happen so the club won't lose a 10 year first grader. Isn't that what leaders do. Unless there more behind the scenes we don't know about and the club wanted Tallyn out.
He's a professional footballer not a sop to a millenial's ego.

Api did play 80 minutes for the majority of the games at Penrith though. However he is older now so his time at the Panthers is irrelevant.

I agree that he would be better off with fewer minutes. I think playing off the bench would suit him the most. The problem is that we don't really have anyone that can play at hooker for the first 20 minutes, before possibly shifting into the middle once Api comes on. TDS wasn't that type of player either. Someone like Siliva Havili would be a good fit, or Jazz Tevaga (who is now going to super league).

It wasn’t just last week. It’s most weeks.
Last week we were poor but apart from Melbourne, Parramatta and Brisbane, we've been in every other game we've lost. We just don't have enough quality atm, our depth is non-existent. We have a top 17 that can compete but after that the cupboards bare. We're also carrying 4 - 5 players in our first team who really should be part of our depth squad at best. We just need more quality players. The coaching iv no idea, only time will tell with Benji what happens.
