Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Bronson Harrison is head of pathways now.

Shannon Gallant is doing the recruitment thing full time whereas before he was doing both roles.

Adel Hage has connections at the club and used to work there, and it came out of his mouth.

Others on here who are closer to the action seem to verify the same info.

Do your own research though and come back if you have anything to the contrary. It's an interesting topic.

Lots doubted that our funding and revenue was the lowest in the league, but I dug it up and showed the receipts. The point isn't about how many recruitment officers we have by any sort of choice. It's the end result of being underfunded in all areas to the point we bring in the lowest revenue in the league and the owners throw a few pennies at us in comparison to other clubs.
When you looked into it how big was the difference in funding, was it only a bit of a difference or are other teams just in another league.

Australia is going downhill. This is not a Lib/Labor thing...Howard left the country with money in the bank in 2007 and in 18 years both parties have accumulated nearly a trillion dollars in debt. They reckon 50% of the country relies on tax money for payments so that starts at government workers down to welfare recipients. Totally unsustainable. Add the government overreach into our lives, high taxes and basically giving up all privacy and I don't hold out much hope. Apologies for the rant.

Luckily AI is coming soon taking all the jobs …. Everyone will just be able to put their feet up then right ? I’m sure that’s how it will work !

We have some company in terms of revenue, but we are dead last. I'm unsure what those other clubs get from their leagues clubs. Bulldogs are about mid and they generate about 19.5 million. We are on around 13.5 million. So I'm even comparing to middle of the road we are about 6 mill behind.

The Dogs leagues club tops them up another 7 mill. We get 1.8 mill from HBG as a grant. We are miles behind. All up we operate on about half of what the dogs do.

Here's the detail.

I’m a swing voter with more lib votes. Now I say that to help you hear this and consider.

Howard increased govt spending (especially structural spending) more than all govts on either side of him. He just got lucky that there was an income (tax receipts) boom.

Govts don’t control receipt booms (income). They DO control spending.

Howard is already remembered as an incredibly talented politician but he is 100% not remembered as being a key player in our successful economic policy
Howard left in 2007 replaced by Rudd. We were in the black. I didn't sit there and talk about anything to do with why...just what it was. The point is we went from being in the black to being deeply in the red in an incredibly short period of time.

Both sides have been in power and both sides are at fault. The point is they don't respect our money.

You don't get it at all.

John Howard gave us 700K houses when at the start they were 200k.
Your Government debt is charged at Super LOW interest rates. 2% or less.
Your Private debt is charged at far FAR higher interest rates. 5% or more.

He shifted the debt, the loan from low to high interest, from gov to YOU and ME.

I'm gutted that we missed out on getting Asu Kepaoa back. Big miss from the club there. Richo has a lot to answer for.
Why?

Seriously..
Look Asu (Please never call him AJ, that confused the crap out of me) has some dynamic play to him..
He was also one of the most on again/off again players to take the field. His defense was poor and so many games we would look to him putting in and he just wouldn't.

This sounds harsh, but we need to let the "Spoon" players go. Particularly those that left us. Getting the spoon brings a certain cultural defeat with it.

Good work looking it all up, I was trying to find the info at times but couldn't find anything concrete. Imo if HBG and also by extension in the past Wests Campbelltown and Balmain Leagues thought that the amount they were providing was sufficient or still is, it's evident to me imo we will get nowhere in the current ownership structure. If we are that far behind the other clubs in terms of funding from HBG then it just shows me everyone involved in the club now and in the past we're just happy to have a team running around in first grade, while us fans crave success they just wanted to participate. That form of commitment won't lead to any sustained success long term unless there's a serious change in viewpoint from the owners, in that through pumping money into the Tigers it eventually in a decade provides success which brings in more members, sponsors 3rd party deals, corporate opportunities so the club can stand on its own to feet and maintain a competative and successfull future. If the owners are just happy to have a team in the comp we will never get anywhere. I'm no expert but think this points to a bigger picture issue of how the debenture structure at HBG isn't ideal. Imo if there were actual real corporate and business leaders running HBG I think we would be getting much more funding. It boggles my mind that not making finals for now 14 years noone in the HBG boardroom has thought maybe we need to be pumping more money into the Tigers.

Outside of Benji's lack of experience his main issue is his choice of assistants. The current crop outside of Morris are very inexperienced. Don't we have additional soft cap with the transfer fees from Galvin and Tds. Why don't we spend this on some gun assistants. But this will mean that Benji needs to accept that he needs help.

Benji just wants to be around his mates. Always has, even from his playing days. Idk, maybe it stems from him coming from a broken home, which is why he pushes the family thing so hard. But this is supposed to be a professionally run footy club.

Yes and NOT hire everyone from the 2005 squad.

Not knocking Morris, Hodgson or Heighington. But as a group, it's too inbred.
It means were not drawing on experiences from other teams and their techniques.

Your an interesting cat Fridge Magnet 🤔

On the one hand you want Australia to be fiscally responsible yet when it comes to your footy club you expect HBG to pour good money after bad.

Keep em coming 👍

Who would you like to be assistants? I think he knows that anyone decent, and people will be screaming for them to takeover after a run of bad results … he knows that won’t happen with the current crop ( even Morris…) so is he open to a guy like Payten coming on board ?

Benji has been allowed to run his own show to date … but surely that’s got to change ? If Payten is available and is prepared to come here for an assistant role, then make it happen. But people shouldn’t be surprised where that might lead … lots of pressure to get a strong start next season

I was out at Lidcombe a couple of weeks back and big Royce had zero impact against Penrith’s Reserve Grade side 🤷‍♂️

Long bus ride home mate …😑

No YOU don't get it. I didn't make the comment to argue how good or bad John Howard was.
