Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

With Charlie Staines released, and Bird and Murray supposedly being shopped, maybe Richo and Benji have their sights on an NRL proven middle in the $500K- $650K range. Similar price to KPP. Would fill an obvious void and provide better balance to the roster.
Desperately need another starting middle imo. Lock or prop. Would be putting aside at least 650 tbh. I think we need someone well above the average starting middle to give us a squad with a better than 50% of making the 8 next year.

we will make the8 next year if we just jag a few more games then we normally do. If this squad sticks about for a while ,good things will come.

But.. Staines wasnt released, and Murray isnt top 30 for next year, so how would that free up anything for a middle?

I've also heard nothing on Bird being shopped. The intention for Bird was never that he would be a consistent feature in our top 17. He's purely depth, is on depth $ and will be gone in 12 months anyway..

We have 2 spots for next year as is. And let's be real, Saukuru and Sullivan would be the first 2 we look to get rid of.

Its more about the $ than the roster spots. If we aren't paying Staines $300K-$400K and Bird (reportedly around $400K) for next year then we can afford a reasonable NRL seasoned middle. We are still trying to move on Bud to Souffs but his injury has complicated matters. Talk from the forum members that have been tracking Saukuru's form is that he should be given 2026 to see if he can make it. He is a big body with speed and is costing us minimal wage. I was hoping Bird could put together more consistent NRL games but unfortunately his body is letting him down. I'm sure the intent and the desire is still there but he can't physically cut the mustard anymore.

Saukuru has found his spot in the back row and will usurp Sukkar next year IMO and also offers utility value.

I’d be getting rid of Kit or Sukkar before him.
Offers utility values? He's shit in Flegg in the position he has played his whole life.

He's getting some minutes as a second rower, but Sam Fainu, KPP, Seyfarth, Geyer, Roberts, Godinet & Sukkar are ahead of him.

I like Sakuru having watched him in Flegg but he is the same age as Sukkar and a year older then Kit and they have been playing regular nrl and nsw cup respectively while he has been in Flegg - not exactly much to say he should be kept over either

with roosters beating bulldogs we now need:

Round 24
Broncos over dolphins
Tigers over manly

Round 25
Tigers over cowboys
Eels over roosters
Many over dolphins

Round 26
Tigers over raiders
Storm over roosters

Round 27

Wahs over manly
Rabbits over roosters
Tigers over titans
Raiders over dolphins

And with this we make the 8, very very slim chance but there’s still a chance

Sakuru has a better combo of size, speed and power than Kit and Sukkar to have a better NRL career. If he can stay on his trajectory from this year.

Saukuru has arguably been the best player in Flegg this year. The results started turning around once he moved into the backrow. He’s been scoring and setting up tries for fun.

He’s 20 years old and it takes time for players to develop. He’s really kicked on this year, and has a high ceiling with his skill set. He’s been performing better in Flegg than Roberts and if he keeps performing the way he has, he could easily usurp quite a few of those guys.

Not all players turn into NRL talents at 20. Just look at Terrell May at 20. He was knowhere doing nothing. Look at him now.

Ok , you've obviously never seen the kid play, or had a kid that lost a spot because of him. For starters he's never played consistently in any position throughout his career. He started as a fullback and 5/8 that would dabble with a bit of prop. Then for the Magpies he'd play on the wing, and then moved towards the centres and has this year found his home in the back row.

Granted he's not one of our first choice back rowers, but he's ahead of Sukkar, Godinet, and should start the off season on par with Geyer and Roberts and see who plays where based on form and fitness over the offseason. Seyfarth should be considered a prop exclusively now. A 5th choice prop.

It's rugby league mad science but could Skelton make a 2RF he's big enough and when he comes in from the wing seems to run the channel that a second rower runs anyway.

Nah

We have struggled with depth for so long, need to have a ruthless approach of best man plays

Second best plays second grade, no need to try and fit everyone into different positions to make them happy
