Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Sterlo? What’s he been up to lately?
He wasn’t in the 2005 side.
HB coach for Benji, It’s never too late.
Latu and the Doobs maybe.
Hoffo coming back home, will no one else take him? Where’s he been coaching at?

Nice to read a post from you that’s not bagging Benji or the club.
Thanks for sharing what you’ve heard.
Benji needs all the help he can get

Oddly I think Stefano & Papali'i this year prove that the Tigers are getting something right.

And it's because both players had good seasons away from the club.

Let's start with both the players. No way Cleary & Bellamy taught them anything 'new'. "Be more involved & committed" isn't something you teach. It's something you buy into. It's, dare I say it, a club culture. What, if anything, it shows me is that Stefano & Papali'i are not 'leaders' as they were expected to be at the Tigers. They don't drive the standards. They follow the standards set by others. They are good players, playing in good teams, and doing well.

So why does this show me that the Tigers are doing the right thing?

Because the whole drive from Richardson & Marshall is about bringing in leadership, setting standards & having players that want to be here. How many times have we heard about Luai & building a club culture? How many times do we hear how Benji is building a culture of 'family first values' etc?

There was definitely some improvement in 2025. I would say that with Api, Luai & a few others that we are building a club culture. Now it's about having the right players, with the right attitudes, in the club.

Stefano & Papali'i have shown that talented players who need to be driven & caught up in a team culture can actually thrive. Not every player succeeds because you count on them being 'leaders'. I think the Tigers figured it out & actually invested in culture defining players. Now it's getting the rest of the squad mix right.

I'll sit down now.
I think I get it? If we lose a good player because he wants to improve his on field performance at a better managed club, that’s a sign of our success. By that guage the more times that happens the more successful we are. You’ve got me kinda excited about Geyer joining us now that I realise we will ship him back to Penrith a much better player.

Sterlo in his day was a champion player, but that was decade’s ago. We need people who have been involved in the game in far more recent times. Of course it might be a gee up to
I’m sceptical that sterlo would get involved with a club other than parra.
Also thought someone said on here a couple of years ago that he doesn’t watch football anymore since his exit from the footy show

Are you really this dumb or just pretending to be so you don't have to acknowledge someone else's good point?

It has to be a gee up mentioning Sterlo.
Brilliant player in his day, but he has not been actively involved in coaching and would not be up to date with the modern structures.
I know we were perusing Cooper Cronk, maybe we are not willing to pay what he is asking ?

Which of our 1-7 particularly our 1-5 make either two of the teams playing today ?
As for our 1-5 I rate Taylan May as a better player than Shibasaki and very even with Casey McLean and Jerome Luai is still a better all round player than Blaize Talagi at this stage of their careers, but not as good as Ezra Mam. That is all we have that could fit into the two teams 1-7 that are playing today.
Does that not tell us we need at least one better quality player within our 1-5 ?

I think the biggest issue is how close they are to Benji. Of course you want the coach and players to have a good relationship, but there is such a thing as being too close, and I think proof of that is when supporters start getting anxiety about potential repercussions to the playing group if the coach gets sacked.
True GNR, though it is refreshing to hear about players being close to the coach and not trying to white ant him like we would hear anually. Personally iv got no problem with it, we need the guys to buy in to what Benji is trying to do. You are right though it can go south and often does. When it goes south it can be a disaster. It just needs to be managed well.

What's the priority at the moment V prop or outside back, you heard Richo's pod lately, without him saying it I'm doubting there's much room in the cap unless we shed a couple.

Not saying another quality back isn't needed but without some extra grunt he may not see the ball in space enough.

Mate I would love a Staggs quality back too, we all would, but at the moment that's a Tiger's supporters fantasy.

It was concerning seeing the way Benji speaks to TMay. Very concerning. I think the players love him and respect him, but they don't view him how you should view a coach
I would agree if May didn't put in every week. If he just went out there and tried half hearted, but May was one of if not our best this year, every week he put in. His worst game was better than the best games of some of our former props. Benji might be like that with May, I don't imagine Bateman or Nofoluma getting that treatment, they needed a kick up the rear and didn't like it when they got one from Benji. As long as Benji can kick the guys up the rear when they need it, it's all good.

I've heard through a close contact that Peter Sterling is touring our facilities and being considered in an attack consultation role at the club. Ryan Hoffman from the Melbourne Storm is another name that keeps getting mentioned
Wrong guy it should be Cronk , sterlo a legend no doubt is 20 years ago , he would not be the answer for one simple reason , the game is completely different now

Yep let's build the greatest boys club inspired 12th ranked squad in the comp! Chocky necklaces for all ..
Forget about these young blokes we have stuck thousands of hours into and told the world would be the nucleus of our "development club squad" far into the future. Give API another 5 years....
We've been without success for so long Tucker, we don't know how to consistently win mate, we need to go slow and steady, we will get there. Baby steps. We improved over last year even with the mid season Galvin switch. It's frustrating after 13 years to miss out on another finals series. This time though the rebuild is different. The guys are putting in, are competative and want to be there. We prob have the youngest squad in the comp. In 2 - 3 years time our squad will be really good. Next year I'm tipping we finally win 3 in a row in a run where we end up playing finals finally. 🤞

Remember when we tried to hire him to be our coach before we tapped Terry Lamb. Said he wasn't willing to give up the media gigs.

You're obviously upset about something otherwise you wouldn't resort to abuse and name calling. You would have been more convincing had you agreed or disagreed with my post. Try to acknowledge my good points next time. LOL

Yep, those players are in most ways attached to the systems and processes set in stone at those clubs, having been developed over many successful years, with proven strategies for premiership glory included.
It’s very different to our situation of setting up a fun culture and hoping the results come off the back of it.
OK- fair.

Also fair- there is not much of a track record of this approach by Benji & Richo having failed at any other point.

Name the last coach that tried the 'fun culture'?

oh look , it’s that time of the month a certain person rears their head to talk shit …. And rile everyone up. I wil say this if Benji was of Aryan bloodline Tucker wouldn’t have a problem …
