Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

we're negotiating with Bula for less money and a longer deal that benefits all parties, including his ratbag manager. Luai's deal includes TPAs so it's less than $1.2m on the cap, Latu is the only one you've managed to get correct, and Api is on less than $700k and actually took a paycut for his latest extension.

they're only going to get better with more time together and better understanding of the system and their roles. start backing them.
Great post! I think going into next season a lot more settled and knowing how we want to play will get us up the ladder and into the top 8 next year. The culture has changed and another preseason together will do wonders! Romey will start fast in 2026

Yes and goodbye to him, line in the sand!
Yeah. Moses seems to have no problem using us to get the guys experience in first grade. As soon as they start gaining some attention he pulls them out. If we keep allowing it to happen we will never really be anything other than a nursery and waiting room for his clients until they have somewhere else to go.

For us it is, not for Jahream.
Disagree.

Just because the tigers had an option for 900k it doesn't mean another club will offer it... So right now he's only worth what the market will pay. Then factor in the community ties and his family and he probably doesn't want to leave the club. So if he gets 4mill elsewhere as opposed to 3.75mill here, he would probably stay here for convenience and to be closer to family...

That makes it better for Jarheem and better for the club.

I doubt anyone throws 900k a year starting 2027.

Yes, from memory money on the cap was a tick over 950k with TPA's taking it up to 1.2mil, that's if the reports can be trusted.

I honestly wouldn't be mad if Bula and Luai left after 2026, that's 2 million we can use in 2027 and onwards, we are still paying overs for bateman and Sulivan in 2026, so 2027 our cap will be in alot better space
And who's in your plans to replace them or are you just going to yank players of their calibre out of your bung hole when we need to.

This talk that we have the most expensive spine in the NRL didn't sound right, so I pulled the numbers:

BRONCOS
Walsh - $1M
Mam - $750k
Reynolds - $550k
Hunt - $600k
SPINE TOTAL = $2.9M
(But keep in mind they have Haas on $1.1M, Carrigan on $750, Staggs on $700k)
Top 7 players = $5.45M. average of $780k per player.
NOTE: Reynolds and Hunt are obviously on unders and Walsh's contract increases to $1.2M per year in the next few years.

STORM
Munster - $1.1M
Pap - $910k
Hughes - $850k
Grant - $850k
SPINE TOTAL = $3.7M
(Nelson $850k, Stefano $600, Howarth $500k)
Top 7 players = $5.66M. average of $800k per player.

PANTHERS
Cleary - $1.2M
Edwards - $850k
Talangi - $500k?
Kenny - $600k
SPINE TOTAL = $3.1M
(but remember they have Yeo $850, Martin $750k, Tago $750k, To’o $625)
Top 7 players = $5.6M. average of $800k per player.

TIGERS
Luai - $1.2M
Api - $700k
Bula - $700k
Latu - $500k
SPINE TOTAL = $3.1M
(our next highest payer is May on $700k, then May $600 and S Fainu on $500)
Top 7 players = $4.9M, average of $700k per player.

Even if we were to get another $1M player, that would bring our top 7 to $5.4M, average of $770k per player. Still less than the other 3 teams above.

This all gels with what I heard mid-year, which was Richo was gearing up to make a big bid for a big star north of the border. My gut was it was either Haas or Tino (as it involved waiting for coaches to commit or leave) and now both of those stories have hit the presses. Doesn't mean we get either but this has been in the making for a while now.

Luai played like he was worth 600k max, you can find a gun half for 600k so that's 50% off, you could also find a fullback that's off contract 2027 for 400-500k and still have money left over for another may type forward
So Luais market value is based on his first season with a club that came off 3 wooden spoons? We just forget the 4 premiership seasons including state of origin series win which he was highly influential in.

Freshly married Jack Bird will remain at the Tigers next season. Bird was given permission to talk with rival clubs by the Tigers in August. However the utility has maintained he wanted to remain at the Tigers and finish his contract at the club which expires at the end of next year.

Bird had been mooted as part of a potential player swap with Manly forward Nathan Brown but that has not eventuated.

Bird, 30, played 17 games for the Tigers in his first season at the club this year having joined from St George Illawarra.
