Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

How is this information known?
I’m not saying it’s not true, but very hard to believe Jahream via Isaac will take less than the current 2027 contract option to remain with us.
Likewise it would be great if we are paying Luai less than 1.2 million out of our salary cap as there were reports back when we signed him that we were paying him 1.2m plus the TPA’s.
Api was a high priority for the Perth Bears and he publicly stated he was very interesting in returning to where it all started for him, so it’s surprising if he accepted less than 700k to extend with us.
There has been reports stating Latu and Samuela’s contracts were back ended and we are actually paying more than 500k for them over the next couple of years. Are those reports false ?
I know it because I was told by someone close to the club. you listen to the pod, you know I get a tidbit or two.

the club has told Jahream that there’s no point paying huge money for just one year and would rather restructure and lock him up long term. players and managers prefer security above all, we’re giving them that.

Luai’s got a percentage of the cap with ratchets so it goes up year on year but TPAs cover a portion of his salary which is $1.2m total. I’m not privy to exact amounts.

Api’s deal was heavily backended last year and he was on about $900k. it’s been scaled back to approx $700k, so I’ll give you that one.

idk why you’re changing your tune about Latu after you said it yourself that he’s on $500k. you’re correct.

This talk that we have the most expensive spine in the NRL didn't sound right, so I pulled the numbers:

BRONCOS
Walsh - $1M
Mam - $750k
Reynolds - $550k
Hunt - $600k
SPINE TOTAL = $2.9M
(But keep in mind they have Haas on $1.1M, Carrigan on $750, Staggs on $700k)
Top 7 players = $5.45M. average of $780k per player.
NOTE: Reynolds and Hunt are obviously on unders and Walsh's contract increases to $1.2M per year in the next few years.

STORM
Munster - $1.1M
Pap - $910k
Hughes - $850k
Grant - $850k
SPINE TOTAL = $3.7M
(Nelson $850k, Stefano $600, Howarth $500k)
Top 7 players = $5.66M. average of $800k per player.

PANTHERS
Cleary - $1.2M
Edwards - $850k
Talangi - $500k?
Kenny - $600k
SPINE TOTAL = $3.1M
(but remember they have Yeo $850, Martin $750k, Tago $750k, To’o $625)
Top 7 players = $5.6M. average of $800k per player.

TIGERS
Luai - $1.2M
Api - $700k
Bula - $700k
Latu - $500k
SPINE TOTAL = $3.1M
(our next highest payer is May on $700k, then May $600 and S Fainu on $500)
Top 7 players = $4.9M, average of $700k per player.

Even if we were to get another $1M player, that would bring our top 7 to $5.4M, average of $770k per player. Still less than the other 3 teams above.

This all gels with what I heard mid-year, which was Richo was gearing up to make a big bid for a big star north of the border. My gut was it was either Haas or Tino (as it involved waiting for coaches to commit or leave) and now both of those stories have hit the presses. Doesn't mean we get either but this has been in the making for a while now.
The problem is Latu is nowhere near the quality of those other halfbacks you have compared with.
Young, inexperienced and injury prone.
But has "POTENTIAL"-----------that dreaded WT understatement---------and good brothers!
WT: we have a problem!
Let's hope AD can rescue us.

So Luais market value is based on his first season with a club that came off 3 wooden spoons? We just forget the 4 premiership seasons including state of origin series win which he was highly influential in.
He needs a Cleary inside him-------------but we have a young, inexperienced Latu.
Fingers crossed AD stays healthy.

Surely the Tigers see it as a slap in the face that Bula even has Moses as his manager given the history between club and manager. They are probably just pre-empting whats inevitably going to happen.
Huge pre-emptment.

I almost kinda believe whoever did the firing had no concern about Bula walking. i.e. I am in charge of NRLW, I don't care if this Aaliyah is Bula's wife, First grade NRL is not my concern.

Also, yes our team probably sucked. Doubt it sucked enough for her not to get a top 30 spot.

^all that said, if she was acting a right royal PITA. I get it. If she was disrupting training and not pulling her weight, I totally get it. We have standards and we need to enforce them. ... I have heard nothing.

Freshly married Jack Bird will remain at the Tigers next season. Bird was given permission to talk with rival clubs by the Tigers in August. However the utility has maintained he wanted to remain at the Tigers and finish his contract at the club which expires at the end of next year.

Bird had been mooted as part of a potential player swap with Manly forward Nathan Brown but that has not eventuated.

Bird, 30, played 17 games for the Tigers in his first season at the club this year having joined from St George Illawarra.
Bird’s now wife is extremely hot.
