Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Yes, that doesn't mean that's where they will play him in his 1st year, centre is a tough spot to play for a 19yo.
Defensively, sure, but a modern winger has to cope with taking the dirty hit ups and the pressure of kicks. Either is a task for an 18yo, so I hope that he is brought in slowly or given the rein to make mistakes if he forces the good enough/old enough factor from round 1.

Sure, nothing is a given, any young player has to prove they are ready for the big boy pants on a game by game basis.

Compare him to someone like Staines, doesn't have his speed but is better in every other aspect of the game
Skelton and Turuva are both very good at what they do best, making the tough carries out of our danger zone, regularly making well over 100 metres gained each game and turning half chances into tries when in our red zone.
Individually they are both better than average NRL wingers, they are generally reliable and the best wing pairing we have had in Wests Tigers colours for quite a while.
My issue is like most areas within our team, lack of balance as neither one of them are even close to what you would call top 10 elite NRL winger, neither one of them have high level x-factor and line breaking/game breaking ability and neither one of them are likely to score more than the very occasional 50-100m tries.
Why is this a problem ?
Well most NRL teams, particularly the better teams have one lightning fast winger capable of making individual line breaks and scoring long range tries.
I think we could compensate and get away with it by having an extremely quick fullback and centre. We have an extremely quick fullback, but neither of our centres could be classed as exceptionally fast.
Then we look at our back row that is also slower than plenty of our rivals , mainly due to us playing a 13 who is really a 3rd prop.
Sorry to be constantly negative, but I just cannot see where or how we are trying to be better than our rivals as we are not bigger or more aggressive than many others, we are not more skilful than many others and we are certainly not faster than many others.
This being the case where do we have an advantage over our rivals and how do we win ?
Interestingly I would say we are faster team than the Panthers, but we have a lot of improving to do before we can match their toughness, aggression, silk level and footy IQ.

What changes from that game? Skelton, Taylan May and Makasini come in... That's literally half of the outside backs.
Also the forwards . KPP, and bounty, maybe Robert’s or Geyer . It’s literally like over a third of the team, as well as that game was the first without Galvin ,and the club had yet to formulate and attacking structure . I’m very confident next year will be the year. We have limited dead weight in the 30 , truely elite, dynamic backs , and a strong spine .

Who needs speed.
Skelton won’t even be in the round one team IMO. Makasini will spend the year on the left wing , and toa at right centre it’s turuva. That’s my prediction .people will be talking about Makasini the way they were Galvin, with hyperbole like he should be in the origin team etc.
The club was torpedoed by Galvin and his crew. They should have got over it but they couldn’t . I’m very very confident the team is better than 9 other teams

It is very hard to predict how good and how quickly Makasini can get there.
He has the physique of a young Israel Folau, we have to hope he gets to that type of level and the sooner the better.
IF he gets to 18/19y.o Israel Folau type levels in 2026, that could be the trigger to finally help us into the top 8.
I think that’s a big ask as a young Israel Folau was a genetic freak, but it’s not out of the question.

I love your positivity, but I think you overrate some of our players.
Nothing wrong with with optimism, do we make the top 8 next season in your opinion ?
I’m seeing many fans happy and content with our roster and I assume that means we have many fans expecting a top 8 finish next year, however I am yet to see one person put their name to it and state they honestly believe we are making the top 8 next season.
I wish I shared your optimism, but I can only call it as I see it and I am struggling to find players in our team that are top 10 in their position across the NRL.
V like most im hoping with a year older, an off season together considering Galvin would of been at centre of most plans last season and with the extra couple of players there would be an improvement im looking forward to seeing Tiny starting of a season and lets not forget Benji, another year of knowing what works what doesnt although i do agree we are still a few tough forwards off from being a guaranteed top 8 side. Where do you think we will finish

I know you expecting V M but I'm predicting 8th to 10th barring injuries, it's time for the team to stand and deliver and keep improving even if it's small steps.

I would like us to finish top 8, but realistically I think we will be bottom 4 unfortunately.
I can see it being similar to this season where we are well in the contest in most games, but lack the class to come up with the big plays at the right times.
Let’s hope I am wrong.

Improvements in 26 season would be icing those 3 or 4 games we lost this season by a few points each and panicking/ lack of steady game manager. If we can put thise 3-4 games into our win bag for 26, I reckon we will come close to 8th and definitely in the 8 to 10 place on ladder. Good Improvements each season with both squad performance and members along with better game management. Not too hard an expectation. 😄

Don't think Parra's signings have been better than ours. They were no doubt playing much better football than us at the end of last year though. Moses is an elite half and Ryles has done a great job.

On another note, looking forward to all the people who were rallying against us signing NAS coming out and complaining that we haven't signed anyone when Parra snap him up...
It kills me how so many members are against so many signings until he signs for another club. Personally i would love to have an impact player that gets you off the seat like NAS but noone wants him here. smh

The weekly grind and.physicality of NRL will determine Maks '26 season and how Benji feels is best to bring him thru.
Bula, Turuva, Toa, May and Skelton is a good back five...Mak will get plenty of opps throughout the year if the above 5 are all fit and healthy i think thats how well start...experience

NAS would be a good gamble if you got him for cheap

All depends on the coin at the end of the day
Reportedly the Storm paid him 500k a season so you would think 300/350 would get it done.

Do you think we need him now our pack with a fit Royce, Pole, Bunty, Terrell plus 2nd row of Sam and KPP is looking much bigger than the latest season.

You can never have enough big guys but think we could strengthen another position, opinions vary by individual thoughts though.
