Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

On radio this morning, apparently Young and Martin are both going to 1 Nov looking to achieve a $1m pa asking contract. That figure needs to be weighed up against the prospective increase in the salary cap and also the entry of the Chiefs into the competition and to a lesser extent Perth. Martin also turns 30 in March next year.

I should add my thoughts - Martin is a tough forward and plays the game hard. He is not overly big for a forward so his impressive career has imo taken its toll on his body. So if it is tough you want, Martin is your man. Young imo is a more skillful player and besides being hard without the tough man label, he brings a football brain to your team. I'd make a big offer to Young.

I'd take either. Both are good, and have shone at Origin level.

Hopefully he sees there won’t be less but more media spotlight here. a new low if we sign him

We would be a horrible fit for Mam, and he'd be a terrible signing for us.

The media would be watching with bated breath waiting for him to balls up, or for our performances so they can pillory us for ruining yet another player.

Both Martin and Young are light years ahead of current San Fainu who, according to reports, is asking more than them.

I’d pay 1m for either of them. Both are class, tough and smart footballers. All of which we lack

No offence but that's a deadly-thin list, almost a gulf after the name Brad Arthur.

Just for laughs I'd like us to sign Matt Ballin again and then he never actually gets around to coaching a single match for reasons.
Just for laughs, I think Shane Sultana fits the bill.
Similarities the Warren Ryan.
School teacher, knows players best position and combo's, Identifies talent, picks sides on form and coaches them.
Done a great job the last couple of years IMO.

Maybe that’s true, but it’s a ridiculous crutch. Same claim was made last year about Galvin. No player walking out mid season, or signing elsewhere justifies the entire squad packing it in for the rest of the season.
This was worse than the Galvin mess. Galvin wanted out from the start and told all and sundry. Mr marguee man touted how he was here for the long haul and everyone should join him - then he gives an up yours to his team, teammates and fans. If i was player and had bought in to Benjis vision and Luais BS i would be pretty peeved off especially when Luais is still the first guy picked each Tuesday.

A mistake ? Probably .

They make mistakes often …

Are you aware Saukuru was part of the Top 30 since at least 2023 from memory … made his debut last week …
Yes, and a professional club would learn from their mistakes. We never do.

Sure no club gets it right on all their juniors. Some don't kick on, some develop late, but we miss the boat nearly all the time.

And yes I knew about Saukuru. I've been following him since he was 15, but he was a development player first and not in top 30 until either last year or this year.
