Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Stupidity while we have been sitting idle throwing fists full of money at a peanut, who was never coming here....other clubs have just quietly gone about their buisness and snared most of the talent

@Glenn5150 the best solution is a transfer window.
The same underhanded manager , back door rubbish happens in soccer , only if you’re PSG and you want Neymar , you have to pay 200mil for the privilege.
You can’t have restraint of trade , I understand that , but if the eels want to have an MO where they constantly sabotage other teams , then they can pay the transfer fee . Even if it’s just 500k.
This doesn’t have to be in the salary cap either . There’s no reason for it to be .

TIGERS’ HIT LIST POST-LATRELL

Wests Tigers didn’t want to be left hanging while Latrell Mitchell made a decision on his future so they could further explore the player market if needed.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the club has drawn up a hit list of other backline targets who can play fullback including Anthony Milford, Matt Moylan, Scott Drinkwater, Zac Lomax and William Kennedy.

The other player heavy linked to the club is Josh Addo-Carr who previously played for the Tigers but the Storm have rejected the winger wants out of the club.

The Tigers have $1.7m to splash following the departures of Ryan Matterson, Ben Matulino and Esan Marsters, however that figure will drop once the signing of Luciano Leilua is made official, pending Trent Merrin’s release to St George Illawarra.

RABBITOHS’ HUGE PLAY FOR ARROW

Jai Arrow has a big decision to make with South Sydney reportedly preparing a whopping deal for the Gold Coast star.

The Courier Mail reports the Rabbitohs, who are looking to replace Sam Burgess, are set to offer the Queensland Origin lock a contract worth $800,000 per season for up to five years.

Arrow is on contract with the Titans until the end of 2020, but has hit the open market to test his value and the Rabbitohs are preparing a deal which is said to be more enticing than what Gold Coast can offer.

Titans coach Justin Holbrook wants Arrow to remain on the Glitter Strip along with AJ Brimson who recently re-signed with the club until 2022.

“I’ve been asked if I want Jai Arrow and AJ (Brimson) to stay, of course I want them to stay. I definitely want them to stay,” Holbrook said.

“But not to the point where the club is paying way more than anyone else just to keep them because people are saying they can’t go.

“They’ve got to want to be here.”

TITANS TARGET VERSATILE COWBOY

The Courier Mail reports North Queensland’s John Asiata toured Gold Coast facilities last week as new coach Justin Holbrook looks to make his first signing since taking over at the club.

Asiata, who primarily plays prop, has proven his versatility in recent years having featured in the halves on a number of occasions.

“It is early days and Johnny was on the Gold Coast with family so it was a great opportunity to meet the Titans while he was here,” Asiata’s manager Chris Orr said.

“The Titans presented a very professional presentation to John which will certainly give him plenty to think about.”

BIG BOYD GOING NOWHERE

Gold Coast coach Justin Holbrook has moved to shut down talk prop Shannon Boyd could leave the club.

Boyd signed with the Titans on big money, but so far hasn’t produced the performances that saw him rewarded with a Kangaroos jersey back in 2016.

“His name has never come up once as to being moved on from the club, from anybody. I can honestly say I’ve got no idea where that’s come from because people were telling me that (I would let him go),” Holbrook told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

“But it hasn’t come from me at all or anyone in the club. He played for Australia a couple of years ago so he doesn’t have to learn how to play rugby league, that’s for sure.”

So now we can get back to normal transmission post LM and JAC discussions, who realistically is on the market, not, would't it be nice to have so and so, but who is off contract or being shopped around. I'm also thinking about whats in the UK and also rugby (a Koribeti or a Jordan Petaia style player)

I'm thinking that the cupboard is looking very bare at the present for fullbacks, hookers and centres
Any thoughts on the subject

It is but put it inot perspective.
2 have gone to penrith,,holmes has returned are the only confirmed transfers. I havnt seen offical confirmation on croft and Scott from Melbourne.

There are no decent off contract players at all. We are chasimg players who have a year still to go. Yoir not going to get a good result like that. I really wish the Nrl jusg have the b***s and save that a contract must be followed and if a player wangs to leave early they have to be on the same salary or less thanthey are currently on. It will get rid of alot of the rumours and c**p thag is going on. Most of the players would stay most likely.

I just posted this on another thread

"The NRL needs to bring in mandatory contract completion for both players and clubs"

That won’t stick in a million years. Mental health cards would be played left, right and centre. I wouldn’t put it past some players to claim they are sucidal.

Of course there will be some exceptions, health and family etc. But I agree but for people like Matterson, Moses, Mitchell and Masters I don't think that would apply. There needs to be an independent assessment before players are granted a release. As for the clubs only the fans my be suicidal if a bad player is purchased...... Lol

Good points and well made. I would add that I think that its important that if transfer fees were brought in it would be incorporated within the Salary Cap. Keep in mind that the express reason the salary cap was brought in was not the level the playing field but to stop clubs from going broke (Canberra 1989). This is also why the SC is tied to the NRL revenue. Additionally, if transfer fees were brought in and it wasnt within the cap, there would be nothing to stop a rich club (think Roosters, Broncos) paying a $1M transfer for whoever they wanted regardless of contract. it would effectively be the end of contract terms (not that they mean much now anyway).

I've been saying that for a while now and getting dragged over the coals for it.

Others say it (like you have here) and nobody says a word.

People seem to get upset yet all I've said is that Latrell doesn't want to play for us.
Which seems to be the truth, I guess people don't like to hear the truth.

Tetevano is a very good player, but I am happy for the club to maintain a principle (totally understand the counter argument though). Brimson stayed put.

Mate FWIW, I dont think anyone here give a rats that you said that LM didnt want to come here, I would think that that is pretty self evident.

I think that what most here have got their back up over is your gloating and your continual harping about the door open/closed rubbish which in reality is as clear as day.

Not sure if old mate Tiger Cast got the brothers mixed up here but fwiw;

Today’s signings of Curtis Scott to Canberra and Brodie Croft to Brisbane will likely have ramifications for rumoured Wests Tigers targets BJ Leluia and Anthony Milford

Hey don't let it worry you tiger....there's people on here that have no respect for others opinions, I've been coping it for ages....don't let it bother you

I honestly believe it will just take one domino to fall and it will spark a huge merry-go-round of signings. I wish that there was a transfer/trade window. It would generate a lot of interest and exposure for the game even potentially in a positive light. It would be infinitely better than the garbage that is being thrown about by Mitchell's management and others at different times throughout the year.

Either way we're in a good position. Money in the bank and time to think carefully about who we sign.

Unfortunately Glenn principles don't win comps....and it would be interesting to know what Brimson excerpted to stay at the goldie
