A former Queensland Reds rugby union forward is set to make the jump across to league with the Wests Tigers.
Waita Setu, younger brother of former Dragon Lagi Setu, was born in New Zealand and moved to Australia to play in the Storm and Broncos junior systems.
The 27-year-old loose forward then switched to union, where he played several games for the Reds in Super Rugby before moving to England.
He played last season for Brisbane City in Australia's National Rugby Championship and is currently trialing for a contract with the Tigers.
Having lost Ryan Matterson and Ben Matulino and with Russell Packer on the outer, the Tigers have vacancies in the pack and Setu, a 110kg giant, could prove a handy addition.

Jonesy like many of us …we simply want results …we don’t want to hear what the plan is …who is to blame …whose dog ate whose homework

No results between October 7th and March 11th!

That's exactly my point happy. If all people want is results, why are they in here every second day complaining about the lack of news or player movement or updates? The results don't start until March 2020.

If we don't sign anyone ...no one needs to watch from about Rd 19 onwards

I’ve never seen talau play but heard a lot of good things how would we go developing him into our next fullback?


Back in the day when I played (not high levels) I was a fullback. I'm not sure people understand how specialised the position is, totally different to centre/wing. I dont believe that you can properly convert a player at first grade age to fullback to an NRL level. There is too much to learn.

It is possible of the player has played a lot of fullback in earlier ages but convert from scratch, no chance.

Us superstar fullbacks need to stick together

Your whole mindset has to change at fullback ...your organizing your defence , organizing wingers (similar to herding cats , just wingers are stupider ) and when you get to a particular level you giving info to your halves about numbers in attack ...what way the defence is leaning numbers wise

Had a bit to do with Tony Currie , best advice he gave me was at any one time in the match if asked I should now how many players were left or right of the ruck

True as is everything Happy said as well. I'd add you have to do all of those things, without losing track of what YOU are supposed to be doing.

Back when I was playing, there wasnt such an emphasis on ball playing as there is now, it was all about hole running. Its a whole different game now and MASSIVE difference from centre/wing.

Bottom line, unless a player has had a LOT of experience of playing fullback, NRL is not the place to learn.

For some reason, after 300+ pages of Latrell, I've got a feeling we'll be signing someone from a left field that the forum hasn't even considered. Maybe someone from England.

And Latrell was a failure at fullback for those reasons. That's why Roosters chose to spend a million dollars on Tedesco rather than persist with him. I can't see why he will be any different for us.

He was not a failure at FB, he was a gun.

They bought Teddy cos he was the best in the comp. And pushed him to centre where he starred and played for NSW and Australia, did i mention he also kicks goals.Did I mention he set up the try to win the rorters their second comp in a row?

Failure is a stretch. He was also a 19yo rookie.
