Just had a very interesting chat down at the beach with a well known member of our training staff. First of all, he doesn't think Latrell is going anywhere in 2020 and will most likely re-sign with the Roosters going forward. The hype about the Roosters pulling their offer and then the Tigers and Cowboys pulling theirs is just media hysteria. He says it's as simple as this: all offers are made with specific conditions, one of those conditions being the period of acceptance. If a player doesn't sign by the expiry date offers aren't pulled, they just expire. He seems to think Latrell is happy at the Roosters and they are happy with him. He also doesn't think he has the nous to be a good fullback.
Madge desperately wanted DWZ and he wanted to come but contrary to popular belief in this forum that the Tigers always miss out because no-one wants to play for us, Penrith would not release him to us. He also noted the improvement in the Dogs back half of the season coincided with DWZ's arrival and thinks he would have been a better option than Latrell.
Madge is currently in the UK talking to players but it's unclear exactly who. Having said that he said several clubs were showing interest in a small number of players, probably those mentioned in this forum as targets for the Raiders, so it's anyone's guess who goes where but at least we're having a shot. Other than that he's optimistic about the youngsters but I suppose he has to say that.

Interesting that Penrith wouldn't release DWZ to us but had no problem releasing him to Canterbury. Virtually stuffed up any chance of us acquiring a proper fullback for 2020. What do these clubs (Penrith & Parra) have against us? We've handed them the players and a coach they wanted on a platter and still they deny us! God I hope both teams fall flat on their faces and miss the 8 next season.

They fear us. They know we are only 1 or 2 players short and don’t want to be the club that makes Wests Tigers into a powerhouse.

It will happen under Madge whether they like it or not though

There's nothing to worry about. As stated, the family have lost all respect for the eels. That's why he has rejected an opportunity to be in their top 30. As much as the eels want him to stay, it won't matter, he'll be a tiger in 2021.

I read a story on that

I don't think he would stay at the eels under any circumstances

Something to do with how they handled his brothers injury.

It sure was

By the sounds of it the whole family is of parra

Not only that they know they are in a war for the west. Its us Penrith and parra head to head. Parra and Penrith get it. Im not sure our club has got there yet.

Tbh I think the war of the west is really only between Penrith and Parra, yet they don't show any real animosity towards each other - not that I've noticed recently anyway. Our battle is with Canterbury imo, and they seem to be getting the upper hand as every team is willing to give them the players they want! Sneaking in under the radar that lot are.

The battle with dogs is a good rivalry

The battle WITH slimers and voldermort

Is more than just friendly banter.....

We get upset when we’re told the Roosters will only release him to us. We take that as a show of disrespect, that we aren’t a threat. Also us, we get offended when clubs will release players to anyone but us. There are things at play if a club will release a player to other clubs but not us. Could be the western club factor, could also be they don’t want to give us the final piece in the puzzle that could make us a threat. Regardless, instead of complaining about other clubs being unfair to us, look at our club and ask we don’t operate the same way.

If they want to waste a year developing a player who will be gone in 2021, let them. Cutting off their nose to spite their face.

can you tell me that is something that the eels would do? i can see them doing it just to be jerks

I reckon they will spend the next 12 months putting pressure on the kid to break his contract with us. They will offer him an upgraded contract from 2021. There is no other reason why they would deny him a release. They are a disgraceful club that don't care how low they go to get what they want.

He's signed for 2021 with the tigers
We're trying to get him out of there

Yea i know and at this stage they won't budge on letting him go. They have already offered him a top 30 spot for next year. Parra are the scum of the NRL - they will try to get him to break his contract if they can.

Doesn't get them far though . All other clubs despise them , and they don't win anything. A few years of 6th then back to the bottom .
Say what you will about the tigers , but a reputation of being used car salesmen and not to be trusted , isn't one of them .

Well, we have learnt from last time- no quarter given with Parra. If they Parra seek to get him to break his contract with WT for 2021- he will sit out the 2 (or is it 3) years of his contract with us and WT take immediate court action against Parra in abetting a player to break their legal contract with another party.

Yea right - just like we learnt after their dirty tactics with Moses. We really showed them how tough we are with the Matterson debacle. Why do you think it would be any different a third time.

We have Lee who owns a law firm. Surely he could throw everything at them.

He’s miles ahead of our current options for hooker

Same height as Corey Thompson.
He'll get rag dolled.

Also the same height as many other solid hookers in the comp. He seemed to go alright in round 12 making 50 odd tackles. I can’t see any of our current round 1 options doing that.

I think all Sydney clubs prefer us to be exactly where we are because they know that when we get it right on the field we are going to be a force to contend with. Can't see any club - especially in Sydney -wanting us to be in any better position the we are at the moment and I do believe that is a factor in a lot of what is happening atm.

Ftr, I didn't see the Roosters offering Mitchell to us as a mark of disrespect at all, I just saw it as them releasing him to anyone, but Souths because of their particular rivalry or feud or whatever it is they have with them.

If the story from our trainer is true, then I see the refusal by Penrith to release DWZ to us to be the same, due to the bad blood spilled between them and us over Cleary during last off season.

You're right though it begs the question why aren't we doing the same? We seem to just roll over and let these clubs have whoever they want, when they want them, though we did get some monetary compensation from Penrith to sign Madge. Perhaps our thinking is that if we willingly give to other clubs then we will receive something back! You know the old philosophy about what you give to the world you will get in return, what goes around comes around, blah, blah. So far, it hasn't worked too well for us.

Perhaps we need to change our philosophy and become a bit more hard nosed during these negotiations. Either that or stop signing dick heads who carry on and throw tantrums cause they want to leave, thus making it completely untenable for us to hang onto them!

There are A lot of feuds and rivalries that go back a long way in league I wouldn't read to much into the Rorters releasing LM to WT's
it was a couple of Greek mates talking to each other

Fact is we are going to be in a better position. We are doing most things right - premiership winning coach, making positive changes to coaching support staff, Centre of Excellence to be complete for 2022 season, our lower grade sides have been strengthened with some serious talent. First grade squad has the core to do well but we need a couple of marquee players - not expecting a lot in 2020 but feel this side will be much much stronger for seasons 2021 and 2022. This coincides with the opening of COE and I feel at the time we will be seen as a much more attractive options for players....

Everybody knows who he is.

I will stick my neck out here, I don't think we will have any chance to make the eight next year , we are weaker across the team. was really hoping with our cap money we would have got 2-3 class forwards and a good center, but again even with cap space we come up with one back rower, and a forward who has not played for 1 year. we lose a rep center and place our hopes on a rookie with 1, 1st grade run, could only happen at the tigers. really hope madge is in England chasing some players , because to be honest he has failed to add any thing to our roster, hope iam wrong but my chin is right out there .
