We signed Matt Ballin for 2 years in 2016. I think he played 2 half games. Let’s face it we suck at recruitment.

And we re-signed liddle. History repeats.

Think your wrong there.

Apples and oranges. Different history.

The bigger issue for mind is Madge. Can he actually articulate well enough to drive hunger in players and bring good players here? Cleary had no issues nor did Sheens (the other mobs forget about it). That could be a bigger issue for us over cash/home grounds/admin etc.

IMO he can def get sec and third tier blokes here, the question will be the elites. Who is going to sign up to knowingly be flogged? Anyone who does we will know we are getting a mentally tough player. That is good.

But most won't.

Look at Souths...Bennet easily attracting Roberts, Arrow and LM (seemingly). 3 origin targets.

Roberts, for example, would not last a month under Madge.

I think that's why he is over in UK

Its a goldmine of talent...

And most of them would have no clue of our "success" in the game lol

Good point and those old style northern forwards would suit Madge. Plus he won at Wigan, so is well known.

I think we have a good story to tell someone that is coming up free from contract. We have been only 1 win away from the final 8 for the last 2 seasons- we are almost there. A couple of key signings can get us there. We missed a few close games where a better player or two might have been able to shut it out for us. We need to get an organiser and at least 1 good try scorer in the backs.

I think the culture has changed in players, they (the established SOO and internationals) no longer want the hard slog except for the SOO and international arena. They're happy to coast along in good teams. where their effort is not needed all the time and the good teams performance by their overall roster still allows them to look good. I just dont think there are many at that level anymore where you can tell the story of 'challenge and build' and find a receptive mind. Although we failed with Matterson, or, maybe safer to say Matterson failed us, it is that type of player in the good sides that are stuck behind in the rosters that WT can target and find receptive minds

Personally, I think WT are going into season weak at hooker and on the wings and reliant on Marshall being able to see out season as the organiser. We have an adequate goal kicker in Momorovski who may get that bit better to become a good kicker with the off season practice. He is backed up by Mbye. We have some talent coming through the lower grades and development pathways that will provide pressure on the established players.

You can't target Woods,Tedesco, Moses and attack them personally for their decisions without acknowledging that our club was not run in a professional manner in any shape or form and every player in the game knew it - and none better than them. They could have all stayed and taken the money offered, but as we have seen with other players money is not enough to lure/keep players who want more from the game. The club needed to change what was happening off the field, and we are suffering still for that, far more than any decisions Teddy Woods or Moses made in regard to what they believed was best for them at the time.

Most of the people with very high post counts don't represent my views and may not represent the silent majority.

Its is good to hear multiple points of view but arguing on the internet is usually a waste of time and blood pressure medication.

Is there any information as to how Madge's attempt to recriot in UK is going if at all? For all we know he could be somewhere is Siberia at the moment. This forum revels on conjecture.

He'd still have plenty of connections at Wigan no doubt.

I wouldn’t touch any backs. None ever make it. It’s forwards tou want.

I remember that Balmain in the late 80's/early 90's broght a centre from UK to partner Brasher. He was a great goal kicker and centre and propelled the team into the top of the semifinals . It wasn't Schofield who was a very good centre as well.

Ellery Hanley in 1988 (Played for Western Suburbs in 89) and Andy Courier in 89 and 90. Hanley also returned in 96 and 97!

Courier is the player you are talking about though!
